Atomfall is built around investigation rather than a conventional quest log. You follow Leads—clues, rumors and objectives that branch as you explore the quarantine zone—while scavenging, crafting, trading and deciding whom to trust. This walkthrough gives a spoiler-light opening route, then explains the major Leads and access problems, with spoiler warnings before choices that can alter outcomes.
The game was developed and published by Rebellion, is set in Northern England five years after the Windscale nuclear disaster, and launched on March 27, 2025. Platform and edition availability can vary by region.

How Leads work in Atomfall
Atomfall does not use a traditional quest or mission system. Instead, Leads record what your character has learned and point toward people, places, objects or unanswered questions. A single conversation can create several Leads, and investigating one can unlock another without a formal quest-complete screen.
Reading and prioritising a Lead
- Read the wording literally. A name, landmark or unusual object is usually a navigation clue, not flavour text.
- Follow people before icons. Talking to a character can provide a password, authority route or safer alternative to forced entry.
- Keep parallel Leads active. Progress in one area may reveal information needed by another, so avoid assuming the first objective listed is the intended order.
- Revisit locations. New dialogue, keys and environmental changes can appear after you obtain evidence elsewhere.
This structure rewards note-taking. Record names, doors you cannot open, requests from NPCs and any item described as evidence; those details often become the solution to a later Lead.

Getting started: survival priorities
Explore before committing to a fight
The opening areas teach the game’s core loop: search buildings and containers, manage a limited inventory, make or find equipment, barter with survivors and choose when combat is worth the noise and ammunition. Crouching, breaking line of sight and using the environment can preserve supplies for encounters that cannot be avoided.
Manage inventory pressure
- Carry healing and the ammunition for the weapon you actually use rather than every weapon you find.
- Keep unusual components and quest-relevant objects until you know which Lead requested them.
- Trade surplus materials when a merchant offers a resource you cannot reliably scavenge in your current region.
- Craft when it solves an immediate problem; a large reserve of ingredients is more valuable than a full set of marginal upgrades early on.
Build the skill tree around your route
Skills improve combat, survival and base statistics. A stealth-and-exploration build benefits from options that reduce risk and improve endurance or survivability; a direct-combat route should prioritise dependable damage and recovery. You can also delay a specialised purchase until a Lead reveals whether infiltration, negotiation or a fight is the safer solution.

A low-spoiler early route
- Search the first safe areas completely. Collect basic healing items, ammunition and crafting materials before travelling farther into the quarantine zone.
- Speak with every available survivor. Exhausting dialogue is the fastest way to create the first useful Leads and identify merchants.
- Mark blocked access. Note locked doors, guarded checkpoints and terminals rather than spending scarce resources on every obstacle immediately.
- Choose one nearby investigation thread. Follow its clues until you reach a clear hand-off, then return to other Leads with the new information.
- Use barter to stabilise supplies. Buy what your chosen combat style consumes most, and sell only items you have confirmed are not needed for an active Lead.
- Save before consequential conversations. Dialogue can change outcomes, so preserve a manual save before accepting a request, revealing evidence or threatening an NPC.
Major Leads and objectives
The following sections cover the named investigations most often sought in an Atomfall quest guide. The game allows more than one approach; the exact order can vary with your conversations and exploration.
Signal Redirector
What it is: An investigation centred on locating and using the Signal Redirector, with access controlled by surrounding clues and local security.
Rank #3
- Build your own zoo with over 500 different animals at your disposal, then splice together over 300,000 different animal combinations
- Keep your animals and your itors happy, with hundreds of buildings, foliage, path and enclosure decorations
- Hire the perfect employees to deal with a variety of life events
- Control everything that happens in your park, from what your animals eat to what eats your animals…
- Decide whether you want to run your Zoo above board... or break the law and pocket the extra cash
- Start: Follow dialogue or evidence that refers to the signal network and record every location name it supplies.
- Preparation: Bring healing, a quiet weapon or distraction tools, and enough carrying capacity to remove any component the Lead identifies.
- Approaches: Scout the perimeter for a less guarded entrance; use an authority or dialogue solution if an NPC offers credentials; or clear the route directly when stealth is no longer practical.
- Failure management: If an alarm or hostile response closes the quiet route, retreat, let pursuit end and approach from another angle rather than consuming all resources in one attempt.
- Outcome: Redirecting the signal advances related Leads. The effect on later routes depends on the evidence and choices you made around the people connected to it.
Data Store B
What it is: A data-retrieval objective involving the facility identified as Data Store B.
- Before entering: Check nearby dialogue for access information and search adjacent rooms for notes, keys or terminals that explain the facility’s security.
- Infiltration: Treat the building as a loop: identify cameras, patrols and exits before taking the data. A stealth route conserves ammunition; direct combat is faster but can remove later dialogue options.
- When blocked: Leave the area and pursue another Lead if a door requires information you do not yet possess. Atomfall commonly uses cross-linked clues rather than a single universal key.
- After retrieval: Read the newly acquired evidence immediately. It may create a character Lead or change what can be said in a later conversation.
Robotics Facility
What it is: A facility investigation with mechanical hazards, restricted access and a choice between infiltration, authority and force.

- Circle the exterior first and locate a retreat path before entering.
- Search for a person who can explain the facility or provide legitimate access; this can avoid a fight that would otherwise consume scarce supplies.
- Disable or bypass security where possible instead of treating every machine as a mandatory combat encounter.
- Keep a manual save before activating unfamiliar equipment. The facility’s state can affect subsequent encounters and dialogue.
Puzzles, access and infiltration
When a door, terminal or checkpoint will not open
- Read every nearby note and terminal entry.
- Ask local NPCs about the location rather than selecting only the first dialogue response.
- Check other active Leads for a name, code, item or authority relationship connected to the lock.
- Search for a side entrance, service route or vertical approach.
- Return after advancing a related Lead; do not assume the obstruction is a permanent combat gate.
Stealth versus direct combat
| Approach | Best when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Stealth | You are short on ammunition, investigating an unfamiliar building or trying to preserve NPC options. | Slower scouting and greater risk if discovered. |
| Direct combat | The route is known, the objective is time-sensitive, or enemies block the only practical exit. | Consumes healing and ammunition and may make later travel harder. |
| Dialogue or authority | An NPC, credential or prior Lead gives you a legitimate reason to pass. | Requires earlier exploration and can depend on choices. |
Spoilers: choices and Atomfall endings
Save before reading further. Atomfall’s dialogue choices can change quest outcomes, and several investigations converge on decisions that determine which conclusion you see. Keep a rotating set of manual saves: one before a major conversation, one before entering a facility tied to an ending route and one before activating a final objective.
How to preserve alternate routes
- Do not spend your only save on the final approach.
- Finish optional character Leads before committing to an endgame conversation; they can supply context or alter who remains available.
- Record which evidence you showed, withheld or traded. Repeating the same conversation with different information can produce a different branch.
- After reaching an ending, reload the pre-commitment save rather than replaying the entire campaign.
The available evidence establishes that Atomfall has multiple story outcomes, but it does not establish a fixed number of endings that applies to every edition or post-launch content combination. Treat any guide claiming a universal ending count with caution.

Collectibles and cleanup
Atomfall metal detector
The metal detector is an exploration tool for locating buried or concealed finds. Use it while sweeping open ground near suspicious landmarks, ruined structures and paths that connect known Leads. Clear nearby threats first, then search in a methodical grid so a detector signal is not lost during combat.
Named collectible sets
Collectibles are easiest to track by region and by set. Keep a written list of discovered names, and revisit every safe area after major story progress; new access and dialogue can expose previously unreachable pieces. Do not sell an item whose description identifies it as part of a set until you have confirmed the set is complete.
Final pre-ending checklist
- Make a manual save in a safe location.
- Resolve optional character Leads you care about.
- Spend skill points and restock healing and ammunition.
- Read all unresolved evidence connected to the final route.
- Confirm that your detector and remaining collectibles have been used in accessible regions.
- Keep a second save so you can explore another ending without repeating the campaign.
DLC routes: Wicked Isle and The Red Strain
Wicked Isle
Wicked Isle is an expansion route and should be treated separately from the base campaign. Enter it only after backing up your save and checking that your character has the supplies and skills needed for a self-contained investigation.
The Red Strain
The Red Strain adds the Scafell Crag and Test Site Moriah regions, along with weapons, gear, skills, characters, enemies and additional main-story endings. Its Leads and decisions should not be mixed into a base-game checklist: finish or back up the campaign first, then follow the expansion’s clues in their own order. Edition and regional availability can change, so verify the content included with your copy.
