You find it in Scadutree Base, beneath Shadow Keep’s Church District, after progressing through the district and draining its water. The encounter is one fight split across three successive health bars, represented by three flower bodies. Target the head, learn the arm and thorn telegraphs, and punish the collapse after its Holy-light explosion.
Where to find Scadutree Avatar
The arena is in Scadutree Base, an area beneath Shadow Keep’s Church District. Reach the district, follow its progression until you can drain the water, then continue into the exposed lower area and Scadutree Base. The boss is optional; defeating it is not required to finish every main-path objective in the expansion.
How the three-phase fight works
Scadutree Avatar does not simply refill one bar. You must defeat three successive health bars, each represented by another flower body. Treat every new body as a fresh phase: maintain your healing and summon resources, re-establish your position, and immediately look for the head rather than attacking the broad trunk or arms.
What to target and where to stand
Keep your lock-on and attacks focused on the Avatar’s head. Windows Central’s guide specifically recommends always targeting the head, which is the reliable damage target and makes punish windows easier to recognize.

- Roll toward or forward through head jabs. This avoids the contact point and leaves you closer to the head for a counterattack.
- Stay mobile around the front. The boss’s arms and flower body cover large areas, while excessive distance can make head attacks and post-attack punishments harder to reach.
- Use the recovery after arm swings. Once a wide sweep finishes, move in and strike the head before retreating for the next telegraph.
Attack patterns and punish windows
Thorn lines
Watch the ground and the direction of the Avatar’s attack for linear thorn hazards. Move laterally or roll through the danger rather than backing away in a straight line. Ranged characters should change position while maintaining a clear angle to the head.
Wide arm sweeps
The arms can sweep a broad arc in front of the boss. Rolling forward, toward the Avatar, can carry you beneath or past the danger and into head range. Do not commit to a long attack string until the sweep has clearly finished.
Repeated slams
Several slams can arrive in succession. Delay your counterattack until the final impact, because approaching after the first slam can put you directly under the next one. The recovery after the sequence is safer than trying to trade through it.
Holy-light explosion
A Holy-light explosion is the most important attack to read. Repeated flashes indicate that additional blasts are coming, so do not rush in after the first burst. When the sequence ends, the Scadutree Avatar collapses. That collapse is a major damage opportunity: move to the head and use your strongest safe attack, then withdraw before it recovers.
Melee, ranged and summon approaches
| Approach | Head access | Handling sweeps and thorn lines | Post-explosion punishment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Melee | Direct and dependable once you roll toward head jabs and stay near the front. | Requires timing forward rolls through sweeps and lateral movement for thorn lines; repeated slams punish early aggression. | Excellent if you are already close when the boss collapses; use the opening for a high-damage head attack. |
| Ranged | Safe damage is possible, but keep a clear line to the head rather than firing into the body. | Spacing helps with arm arcs, but thorn lines still require active movement and repeated flashes still require patience. | Strong when the collapse is visible and your attack can reach the head immediately; reposition if the body blocks the shot. |
| Summon-assisted | A spirit can create angles while the Avatar faces it, but you must still direct your own attacks at the head. | Distraction reduces pressure, though area attacks can still catch both you and the summon. | Use the distraction to reach the head during the collapse; do not assume the summon will survive all three bars. |
A summon such as Mimic Tear can distract the boss, as described in the PowerPyx walkthrough. This trades some direct control for safer opportunities to approach the head. The cited guides do not establish a universally required level, weapon, or build, so choose equipment that lets you reliably reach the head and survive mistakes across all three bars.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical step-by-step plan
- Enter with a three-phase resource plan. You are fighting three health bars, so avoid spending every healing charge or your strongest limited buff during the opening exchanges.
- Lock onto the head. Keep the camera oriented toward the flower’s face and treat the trunk and arms as obstacles, not primary targets.
- Roll forward through head jabs and arm sweeps. The forward movement both avoids the hit and places you where head attacks can connect.
- Respect thorn lines and slam chains. Move sideways for linear thorns and wait for the final slam before attacking.
- Count the flashes during the Holy-light attack. Repeated flashes mean more blasts; wait for the full sequence to end.
- Punish the collapse. Once the boss falls, deliver your highest reliable head damage, then disengage before the next phase resumes.
- Repeat without changing the target. Each new flower body restores the encounter’s danger, but the same head-focused discipline and telegraph responses remain useful.
Rewards
PowerPyx’s verified walkthrough, published June 20, 2024, lists the following rewards:
- 260,000 runes
- Miquella’s Great Rune
- Remembrance of the Shadow Sunflower
Game8 describes Miquella’s Great Rune as reusable and notes that it helps in the Shadow of the Erdtree final-boss fight. The Remembrance is the boss remembrance associated with Scadutree Avatar, while the runes are awarded for this victory.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes to avoid
- Attacking the body instead of the head: broad targets are tempting but do not replace head-focused damage.
- Rolling away from every attack: retreating can leave you outside head range; forward rolls are often the better answer to jabs and sweeps.
- Entering during the explosion: wait through every repeated flash before approaching the collapsed boss.
- Spending all resources on the first bar: the encounter has two more bodies after the opening one.
- Assuming a summon ends the mechanics: Mimic Tear can distract the Avatar, but area attacks and later health bars still require your own positioning.
