Yes. Samsung DeX can put Android games on a TV or monitor and let compatible titles use a controller, keyboard or mouse. DeX is not a universal compatibility layer, though: the game still determines whether those controls, landscape mode, resizing and full-screen play work. Think of DeX as Android’s desktop-style display and multitasking environment—not as Windows running on your phone.
What Samsung DeX changes—and what it does not
On a compatible Galaxy phone or tablet, DeX presents Android in a desktop-like interface with windows, a taskbar and external-display support. DeX does not turn Android apps into Windows software, add PC game compatibility or automatically translate touch controls into mouse and keyboard commands.
Check your Galaxy device before buying anything
Samsung says DeX works with most compatible Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy Tabs, but features vary by model and region. Do not assume that every Galaxy phone, A-series model or foldable supports it. Confirm the exact model on Samsung’s DeX page and check these items:

Samsung’s April 15, 2026 setup guide discusses wireless DeX on devices including the Galaxy S26 series, Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro, but it is not a complete compatibility list. Read the specifications for your precise model at Samsung Business Insights.
Connect DeX to a TV or monitor
Wired DeX: the best starting point for gaming
- Connect the Galaxy device to the display with a compatible USB-C-to-HDMI adapter, DeX cable, DeX Station, DeX Pad or USB-C hub that supports video.
- Connect power to the hub when charging or sustained play requires it.
- Select the correct HDMI input on the TV or monitor.
- Accept or start Samsung DeX when the prompt appears.
- Pair your controller, keyboard or mouse, then open the game from the DeX app launcher.
Samsung lists these wired options and requirements at Samsung Gulf support. A charging-only USB-C cable or a phone whose port lacks video output will not produce DeX. Wired DeX is the safer baseline for responsive play because it removes wireless-display discovery and interference variables; that is a practical recommendation, not a Samsung-published latency measurement.
Wireless DeX
- Open the Galaxy device’s Quick Panel.
- Select Wireless DeX.
- Choose a compatible TV or monitor and approve the connection on the display if requested.
- Pair the controller or other input device with the Galaxy device.
Wireless DeX requires a compatible display, generally one supporting Miracast or compatible Android screen mirroring. Depending on the devices, both may need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Chromecast support alone does not establish Wireless DeX compatibility. Requirements are outlined at Samsung’s DeX support page.
Choose controls that the game actually supports
Controller: the broadest first choice
A Bluetooth or USB gamepad is usually the most sensible first test for mobile and streamed games. Put it in pairing mode, then open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth on the Galaxy device and select it. Launch the game after pairing and inspect the game’s own controller settings and button layout.
Android recognition is not enough: the game or streaming client must also accept the controller. Samsung does not certify a universal controller list for every DeX game.

Keyboard and mouse
Samsung explicitly says keyboard-and-mouse play depends on the individual game supporting those inputs. A mouse that moves around the DeX desktop may still do nothing inside a game. Read Samsung’s guidance at Samsung Hong Kong support.
- Use Bluetooth peripherals or USB devices through a compatible hub.
- Use the phone as a touchpad for desktop navigation when necessary.
- Do not treat the on-screen keyboard as a replacement for game controls.
Which gaming scenarios work best?
Native Android games with controller support
These are the simplest candidates: the game runs locally while DeX supplies the larger display. Verify controller support, landscape orientation, full-screen behavior, Android-version compatibility and any account or anti-cheat restrictions.
Native games with keyboard and mouse
Strategy, simulation, MMORPG and browser-like games may support these controls, but implementation is inconsistent. Confirm support in the game’s documentation or settings rather than inferring it from the DeX pointer.

Touch-first games
A touch-only game may launch yet remain awkward on a non-touch TV or monitor, stay locked to portrait mode or display in a small window. You can keep it on the Galaxy screen, use the phone as a touchpad, or use a game-specific controller if supported. Unofficial key-mapping utilities are not a Samsung solution; they can require broad permissions, behave unreliably and conflict with game rules or anti-cheat systems.
Cloud gaming
Cloud services render the game remotely and send video to the Galaxy device. Check the provider’s current official page for supported games, devices, regions, subscriptions and prices. Your experience depends on internet stability, Wi-Fi congestion, service-side resolution and frame-rate limits, and latency from both the network and controller.

Remote play from a PC or console
Remote-play software can provide a larger library, but the game still runs on a host PC or console. The host must be powered on or reachable, the network must route input correctly, and the host location needs adequate upload capacity. This is remote access—not DeX natively running PC or console games.
Performance, heat and the external display
DeX changes the interface and output; it does not turn a mobile chipset into a desktop GPU or guarantee higher frame rates. Results depend on the Galaxy model and chipset, graphics settings, resolution, thermal throttling, background apps, power delivery, and whether the session is native, cloud-streamed or remote-played. Samsung’s S26 material describes the series as designed for demanding gaming, but that marketing does not establish a universal DeX frame-rate or resolution guarantee.

Compatibility checklist for a specific game
- Does the exact Galaxy model support DeX and the chosen wired or wireless connection?
- Does the game support landscape mode and a resizable or full-screen window?
- Does it list controller support?
- If you need them, does it explicitly support keyboard and mouse?
- Is it compatible with the device’s Android and One UI versions?
- Does the display support USB-C video or Miracast as required?
- Is the game’s account, region or anti-cheat policy compatible with streaming or peripherals?
- Is low latency important enough to justify a wired setup?
Troubleshoot common DeX gaming problems
The game launches but controls do nothing
- Check the game’s controller or keyboard settings.
- Close and reopen the game after pairing the device.
- Keep the phone screen awake while testing.
- Try a wired controller or USB connection.
- Confirm that the intended DeX window has focus.
If the game is touch-only, DeX cannot add native keyboard-and-mouse support; Samsung attributes that compatibility to the app developer.
The game is portrait, tiny or badly scaled
Look for in-game orientation and display options, try full-screen mode, and compare with ordinary screen mirroring. A fixed mobile layout or an app that is not optimized for large screens may not be fixable through DeX.

No DeX prompt appears
- Check the display’s HDMI input.
- Verify that the adapter, cable and hub support video output.
- Connect power to the hub or adapter.
- Confirm wired DeX support for the model.
- For wireless use, verify display compatibility, Wi-Fi requirements and current software.
Wireless DeX cannot find the TV
Look for Miracast or Android screen-mirroring support; Chromecast alone is not sufficient. If discovery continues to fail, switch to USB-C-to-HDMI.

Samsung documents black screens for some protected-content apps. Test a wired connection, but do not assume that it resolves every game or DRM implementation. See Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance.
Input fails after the phone sleeps
Community reports describe controller problems in some configurations, but they are not universal Samsung documentation. Keep the phone awake while diagnosing, remove battery-saving restrictions from the game or streaming app, test before starting a match, and reconnect the controller if input disappears. If necessary, keep the phone display active. See the reported case at Samsung Community.
DeX for PC is an outdated recommendation
Samsung Knox says the DeX for PC app is no longer supported on devices running Android 15 and One UI 7.0 or later. That limitation concerns the legacy Windows-PC DeX application, not DeX connected directly to a TV or monitor. Current alternatives include Link to Windows, screen mirroring, remote desktop or a game’s own remote-play client. Check the current documentation at Samsung Knox before following older setup guides.
When DeX is—and is not—the right gaming platform

Alternatives to consider
- Ordinary screen mirroring: Better for touch-first apps that behave poorly in DeX; worse for desktop multitasking and peripherals.
- Android gaming handheld: Integrated controls and gaming ergonomics, but no phone-sized all-purpose replacement.
- Console: More predictable controller support and optimized living-room games, at the cost of separate hardware and an ecosystem.
- Gaming laptop or desktop: Broad native PC compatibility and stronger keyboard-and-mouse support, but higher cost and less portability.
- Cloud or remote gaming without DeX: The same service can run on a phone or tablet; DeX mainly improves the large-screen presentation.
The Bottom Line
Samsung DeX is a practical big-screen layer for compatible Android games, controllers, cloud services and remote play. It is worth using when you already own the right Galaxy device and accept game-by-game testing. It is not a substitute for a console or gaming PC when guaranteed controls, native PC games or consistent competitive performance are the priority.
