It had been announced three days earlier, on April 21, so this is a completed 2024 launch rather than an upcoming product release. The cooler was priced at 179 yuan, with a limited 99-yuan Z9-series bundle promotion.
Announcement and launch timeline
- April 21, 2024: iQOO announced the accessory ahead of its product event, with the launch event scheduled for 7:00 p.m. China time, as reported by Gizmochina.
- April 24, 2024: iQOO officially launched the cooler and the Chinese Z9 series in China through its official vivo/iQOO announcement.
The accessory’s Chinese wording, iQOO 磁吸散热背夹, is more literally translated as “magnetic heat-dissipation back clip.” It is a magnetic cooler rather than a conventional clamp-only design.

The −7°C and seven-second figures are iQOO’s own launch claims; the announcement does not provide independent laboratory conditions. The community report also describes a physical control button, two cooling modes and separate lighting controls.

Phones without built-in magnets
For other phones and tablets, iQOO supplied an adhesive magnetic plate. Alignment matters: check the camera module, NFC area, wireless-charging coil, vents, buttons and any stylus attachment zone before fixing it permanently.
Use a flat, firm case where possible. Thick, textured, curved or soft cases can weaken the connection and reduce contact between the cooler and the phone. Magnetic mounting is not magnetic charging: the cooler itself uses USB-C power, and it does not turn a phone into a wireless-charging device. An iQOO community discussion specifically noted that iQOO phones at the time did not support magnetic or wireless charging (iQOO community post).

The Chinese Z9 and Z9 Turbo also supported 80W charging and 7.5W wired reverse charging. The cooler was a separate companion accessory, not a cooling system built into every phone.
Do not confuse it with India’s iQOO Z9 5G
The Indian iQOO Z9 5G is a different regional product. Its official specifications include a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 processor, 5,000mAh battery, 44W charging and Funtouch OS 14. It was not one of the three phones launched in China on April 24, 2024, and the Chinese bundle promotion does not establish that the cooler was included with or officially supported for the Indian model.

Price and promotion
The official Chinese launch price was 179 yuan. From April 24 through April 29, 2024, the Crystal White version could be purchased for 99 yuan when bundled with an iQOO Z9-series phone. That was a time-limited launch promotion, not a current global price. The reviewed sources do not verify a current official buying page, regional availability, warranty coverage or present-day retail price.

The newer model’s advantage is convenience and lower weight, not proven maximum cooling output. A thermoelectric cooler also needs external power, and a surface below ambient temperature can create condensation in humid conditions. Keep moisture away from the phone and stop using the cooler if condensation appears.

What its cooling claims do—and do not—prove
Lowering the rear surface temperature does not guarantee the same reduction in CPU, GPU or battery temperature, nor does it automatically produce higher frame rates. To judge gaming benefit, compare the same game and graphics settings at the same brightness, ambient temperature, network conditions and charging state over a sustained session.
A magnetic plate can also affect case fit, camera clearance or wireless charging. A MagSafe-compatible case is generally the least disruptive route, but compatibility still depends on magnet strength and alignment.
Is it worth seeking out now?
- Consider it if you can find a legitimate listing with clear regional warranty and return support, already use a MagSafe-compatible phone or case, and value a lighter cooler for long gaming sessions.
- Be cautious if the only listing relies on the 2024 99-yuan promotion, offers no provenance, or requires placing a plate over a camera, NFC area or charging coil.
- Choose a clamp cooler if a firmer hold or potentially higher cooling power matters more than portability.
Because current official availability outside China is unverified, the 2024 launch price should not be treated as a present-day deal. The product’s lasting distinction is its 69g magnetic form factor: faster and less cumbersome than a clamp, but more dependent on case fit, alignment and an external USB-C power source.
