Its defining feature is PLAYSYNC AUDIO, which switches USB audio among up to three connected gaming systems. Unlike the ASTRO A50 X, the A50 Gen 5 does not switch HDMI video.
What Logitech announced
The announcement at Logi Play described the ASTRO A50 Gen 5 as a multiplatform wireless headset and base station for players who keep several consoles or a PC connected to one or more monitors. Logitech said the headset would ship in October 2024 at a launch price of $299.99.
Gabriel Whyel, Logitech G’s head of marketing for console and cloud, said: “Our new A50 Gen 5 features PLAYSYNC AUDIO that focuses on 3-system audio switching via USB, perfect for multi-platform gamers who have their consoles and PC connected to one or more monitors.” That is Logitech’s positioning statement, not an independent performance assessment.
What PLAYSYNC AUDIO switches
USB audio, not video
PLAYSYNC AUDIO lets the base station handle audio switching between as many as three USB-connected gaming systems. The headset can therefore move between console and PC audio without requiring a separate headset for each system.

The feature does not switch the picture from one system to another. Video still has to be handled by the monitor, television, HDMI switch, or another display setup. Logitech specifically positioned the A50 Gen 5 for buyers who want audio switching but do not need HDMI video switching.
What this means in a multi-system setup
- Connect up to three supported systems to the base station by USB.
- Use PLAYSYNC AUDIO to select which system supplies headset audio.
- Keep video switching separate from the headset’s audio function.
- Confirm the current Logitech compatibility and support instructions before finalizing cables or console settings.
Is the ASTRO A50 Gen 5 compatible with PS5, Xbox and PC?
Yes. Logitech’s launch announcement named Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC among the supported platforms. The current Logitech G US product listing also identifies Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 as compatible.

“Compatible” does not mean every platform uses the same connection method. In particular, docked and handheld Switch use different audio paths, so check Logitech’s live support material for the exact mode and firmware requirements before setup.
What is the difference between Astro A50 and A50 X?
The A50 Gen 5 and A50 X share the A50 family architecture, but their switching functions target different needs.

Choose the A50 Gen 5 when your priority is moving headset audio between systems. Choose the A50 X only if integrated HDMI video switching is also important. The A50 Gen 5 should not be described as an HDMI switch.

Why the displayed US price needs checking
Logitech’s US product page later displayed $239.99 against a $299.99 price, with the page stating that the special price was valid through September 27, 2026. That date has passed, so the figure is not evidence of a current deal. Check the live Logitech listing before quoting a present price or promotion.
Who should consider the A50 Gen 5?
- Multiplatform players: You regularly use Xbox, PS5, PC, or supported Switch systems and want one headset for their audio.
- Multi-monitor setups: Your displays already handle video selection, so HDMI switching in the headset is unnecessary.
- USB-focused setups: You can dedicate USB connections for the systems you want to switch.
The A50 X is the more relevant comparison if your buying decision depends on switching video as well as audio. The A50 Gen 5’s value instead rests on simpler USB audio selection across supported systems.
The Bottom Line
The ASTRO A50 Gen 5 is Logitech G’s USB audio-switching headset for up to three systems. It supports Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC and, on the current US listing, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, but it does not provide the A50 X’s HDMI video switching. Treat its driver, microphone, weight and audio figures as Logitech specifications, and verify the live price before buying.
