Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is completed one mission at a time: Professor E. Gadd sends Luigi from the Bunker through the Pixelator, and each mission ends when its stated objective is complete and Luigi is extracted. The safest route is to follow the mission objective, use the Dark-Light Device on anything that seems absent, and replay missions for treasure, ghost captures, low damage and faster times.
How Luigi’s Mansion 2 is structured
The campaign is divided among four areas: Gloomy Manor, Haunted Towers, Old Clockworks and Secret Mine. Missions are separate runs rather than one uninterrupted mansion exploration. Start each run by checking the objective on the Dual Scream map, then return to the extraction point after completing it.
Recommended area order
- Complete the A-series in Gloomy Manor.
- Complete the B-series in Haunted Towers.
- Complete the C-series in Old Clockworks.
- Complete the D-series in Secret Mine.
After a mission is cleared, select it again from the Bunker to search for missed treasure, gems and Boos or to improve its medal.
Controls and tools you need before starting

Mission ranks and replay strategy
The game awards bronze, silver or gold ranks. The original instruction manual identifies four factors: treasure collected, damage received, ghosts captured and completion time.

- Combat run: stun ghosts deliberately and avoid taking damage while maintaining suction.
- Gold attempt: replay after memorizing the route so you can collect efficiently without unnecessary detours.
Gloomy Manor walkthrough
Work through the A-series in the order shown by the Bunker. Treat each mission as a self-contained route: enter the rooms marked by the objective, clear the obstruction or puzzle, capture the required ghosts, and return for extraction. In A-3, “Quiet Please!”, use the Dark-Light Device whenever the route or a room object appears incomplete; the device is required to reveal the hidden Boo-related solution.
A-series puzzle routine
- Check the Dual Scream for the current objective and the next marked room.
- Vacuum movable objects and use an air blast on mechanisms before searching for a key.
- Scan empty pedestals, suspicious wall sections and furniture with Dark-Light.
- Stun each ghost with the Strobulb before attempting a capture.
- After the objective updates, consult the map again; newly opened doors may change the shortest return route.
Gloomy Manor finale
The final A-series mission is a completion check for the mansion. Bring every required key or objective item to the marked destination, clear the final ghost encounter, then use the extraction point shown on the Dual Scream. If a door or object is missing, search the surrounding rooms with Dark-Light before backtracking through the entire mansion.

Haunted Towers walkthrough
Begin the B-series after the A-series sends you onward. Haunted Towers emphasizes vertical routes and mechanisms. Follow the objective marker between tower rooms, use air blasts on moving devices, and check ledges or apparently empty platforms with Dark-Light before changing floors.
B-2, “The Pinwheel Gate”
For the pinwheel gate, combine the Poltergust’s suction and air-blast functions with the nearby mechanism: manipulate the gate, inspect the newly accessible route, and collect visible treasure before leaving the room. If the gate does not respond, reposition Luigi so the nozzle is aimed at the mechanism and check for a hidden component with Dark-Light.

Haunted Towers combat
- Keep room entrances clear before starting a fight so Luigi cannot be cornered.
- Flash one ghost at a time when several enemies are present.
- Use air blasts to interrupt objects or hazards while charging the Strobulb again.
Old Clockworks walkthrough
The C-series takes place in Old Clockworks. Use the Dual Scream map after every machinery puzzle because moving platforms and opened passages can alter the practical route. Search gears, platforms, shelves and machinery housings with Dark-Light when a required part seems absent.
Clockworks problem-solving checklist
- Inspect the objective text for the exact machine or room name.
- Test suction and air blast on exposed handles, fans, belts and loose parts.
- Scan the machine and the floor around it with Dark-Light.
- Capture any ghosts released by activating the mechanism before continuing.
- Return to the marked destination and verify that the objective has changed before extracting.
Secret Mine walkthrough
Complete the D-series in Secret Mine last. Mine routes can conceal side chambers and objects behind debris, so perform a Dark-Light sweep whenever a passage ends abruptly. Keep the extraction route in mind: once the objective is complete, do not continue exploring unless you are deliberately making a collectible or rank-improvement replay.

Secret Mine survival tips
- Clear hazards with the Poltergust before engaging ghosts.
- Use the map to avoid repeating long mine passages.
- Collect nearby treasure before triggering an encounter that changes the room.
- When the mission objective is fulfilled, follow the extraction marker immediately on a rank attempt.
Gems and Boos: a reliable collection method
Collectibles are distributed across missions rather than available in one free-roam sweep. Revisit the relevant mission from the Bunker when a gem or Boo is missing. Nintendo’s guidance specifically notes that Dark-Light reveals missing objects and that golden ghosts appear only in certain missions.

Record each find immediately. If the mission ends without the collectible, the usual cause is that it belongs to a different mission or requires a later story unlock; select the mission indicated by the Bunker’s records rather than searching every area again.

Bosses and rematches
Boss encounters are tied to mansion finales. Learn the attack pattern first, then replay the mission for a cleaner capture and faster finish. The same rank factors apply to these missions: treasure, damage, ghosts and time. A rematch is the efficient way to improve a medal because the route and reveal points are already known.
