ProtonUp-Qt 2.15.0 Adds dwproton and Corrects Lutris GE-Proton Installs

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

ProtonUp-Qt 2.15.0, released on February 20, 2026, adds dwproton as a compatibility-tool option, restores Kron4ek selection between amd64 and wow64, and corrects the GE-Proton installation directory used by Lutris to runners/wine. ProtonUp-Qt is a graphical manager for compatibility tools used by Steam and Wine-based launchers such as Lutris; project materials also mention Heroic Games Launcher. See the official release history and application metadata.

What changed in ProtonUp-Qt 2.15.0

dwproton is now available

The release adds dwproton to ProtonUp-Qt’s list of compatibility tools. That makes it available through the same graphical management utility used to obtain and manage supported tools for game launchers. The release notes do not specify a performance claim or a particular game that benefits from dwproton, so this is a tooling-availability change rather than a measured frame-rate update.

Kron4ek architecture selection is fixed

Version 2.15.0 fixes Kron4ek architecture selection so users can choose between amd64 and wow64. The correction matters when the architecture of the tool needs to match the launcher, operating system, or game setup; the release information does not claim that one option is faster than the other.

Lutris GE-Proton installs use the right directory

For Lutris, GE-Proton is now installed in runners/wine. This is a Lutris-specific path correction. It should help Lutris find newly installed GE-Proton builds where the previous directory behavior could leave a runner outside the location Lutris expects. The change does not redefine ProtonUp-Qt’s support for Steam or other launchers.

Why the Lutris directory fix matters

Compatibility tools are useful only when the launcher can discover them. A GE-Proton download placed in the wrong runner directory can appear to complete successfully while remaining unavailable in Lutris’s runner choices. By targeting runners/wine, v2.15.0 aligns GE-Proton installation with Lutris’s Wine-runner layout. Existing installations are not described as being migrated automatically in the release information, so users should treat this as a correction for installations made with the updated version rather than assume every older runner will be moved.

How v2.15.0 compares with the later v2.15.1

ProtonUp-Qt 2.15.1 followed on June 24, 2026. It is a separate follow-up release, not part of the February 2.15.0 change set.

Compatibility tools Adds dwproton. Removes Proton-Sarek in favor of proton-cachyos and enables proton-cachyos for Lutris.
Architecture handling Fixes Kron4ek selection for amd64 or wow64. Downloads GE-Proton as aarch64 on ARM and x86_64 otherwise.
Lutris behavior Places GE-Proton in runners/wine. Enables proton-cachyos for Lutris; the listed changes do not replace the v2.15.0 directory note.
Repositories No repository migration is listed. Switches to the new Luxtorpeda Codeberg repository.

These entries describe release changes, not benchmarked differences in loading times, compatibility, or frame rate. Choosing between the versions therefore depends on which tool, architecture, or repository behavior you need.

Who should pay attention to the update?

  • Lutris users installing GE-Proton: v2.15.0’s runners/wine correction is the most directly relevant change.
  • Users of Kron4ek: the fixed amd64/wow64 choice addresses architecture selection.
  • Users evaluating dwproton: the tool becomes available through ProtonUp-Qt in v2.15.0.
  • Users installing the newest release: v2.15.1 adds later architecture, repository, and proton-cachyos changes, so it should be considered separately from the 2.15.0 announcement.

What to check after updating

  1. Confirm that the installed ProtonUp-Qt version is the one you intend to use: 2.15.0 for the changes described here, or 2.15.1 for the later follow-up changes.
  2. If you manage Lutris runners, install or reinstall the desired GE-Proton build through ProtonUp-Qt and verify that the resulting Lutris runner is located under runners/wine.
  3. If you use Kron4ek, review the selected architecture and choose amd64 or wow64 deliberately rather than relying on an unintended default.
  4. If you are testing dwproton, treat it as a newly available compatibility-tool option; the release notes provide no universal compatibility or performance guarantee.

Bottom line

ProtonUp-Qt 2.15.0 is a focused maintenance release: it expands the available tools with dwproton, fixes Kron4ek architecture selection, and resolves the Lutris GE-Proton directory issue. Version 2.15.1 is newer and adds its own architecture, repository, and proton-cachyos changes, but those should not be conflated with the original 2.15.0 release.
