Short answer: the RX 9070 GRE is not consistently faster than the RX 7900 GRE. In TechSpot’s 15-game raster suite, the two cards tied at 84 fps at 1440p and 48 fps at 4K. Individual games varied, so “a bit better” describes some results—not the overall average.
RX 9070 GRE vs. RX 7900 GRE: the average is a tie
TechSpot’s 2026 15-game raster average puts both cards at 84 fps at 1440p and 48 fps at 4K. Those are results from that outlet’s test suite, not a guarantee for every game or PC. At the game level, the RX 9070 GRE won in some titles, tied in others, and fell behind in others. See TechSpot’s RX 9070 GRE review and comparisons.
The practical conclusion is parity in this particular aggregate, rather than a dependable generational uplift. If you are choosing between the two, compare results for the games you play and check the cards’ local prices; the available evidence does not establish a current price advantage for either one.
What other raster tests show
Tom’s Hardware averaged 120 fps at 1080p and 86.6 fps at 1440p for the RX 9070 GRE across its separate 11-game raster suite. These figures cannot be combined with TechSpot’s averages: the games and test methods differ. Tom’s Hardware sees the card as a fit for high-refresh 1080p and 1440p raster gaming, while warning that its 12GB of VRAM and ray-tracing performance can be limiting, particularly above 1080p. Read Tom’s Hardware’s RX 9070 GRE review for its test context and assessment.

How it compares with the RX 9070 and RTX 5070
In TechSpot’s same 15-game raster average, the RX 9070 GRE trailed the RTX 5070 by about 5% at 1440p and 6% at 4K. It was further behind the standard RX 9070: 16% at 1440p and 17% at 4K. These are suite-specific averages, not results that should be assumed in every title.
| Comparison in TechSpot’s 15-game raster average | 1440p | 4K |
|---|---|---|
| RX 9070 GRE vs. RX 7900 GRE | Tied: 84 fps each | Tied: 48 fps each |
| RX 9070 GRE vs. RTX 5070 | About 5% slower | About 6% slower |
| RX 9070 GRE vs. RX 9070 | About 16% slower | About 17% slower |
Rasterization and ray tracing are different workloads; raster averages do not settle which card is preferable for ray-traced games. Compare ray-tracing results separately if those games or settings matter to you. The evidence summarized here does not provide a comparable ray-tracing table across all four GPUs.

Who should consider the RX 9070 GRE?
- High-refresh 1080p or 1440p raster gaming: Tom’s Hardware’s suite results and verdict point to this as the card’s clearest use case.
- 4K raster gaming: TechSpot measured 48 fps for the card in its 15-game average, so check specific game results and settings rather than expecting a high-refresh result across the board.
- Ray tracing or demanding VRAM use: take the 12GB capacity and Tom’s Hardware’s warning about ray tracing above 1080p into account, and compare workload-specific tests before choosing.
- Upgrading from an RX 7900 GRE: TechSpot’s aggregate shows no average raster gain. A switch would need to make sense on game-specific performance, features, or your actual purchase price—not on the expectation of a broad frame-rate upgrade.
Launch price and models: check current local listings
The FPS Review reported global availability beginning in June 2026 at a $549 MSRP, following an earlier China-exclusive release. That is dated launch context, not a verified current price or statement about stock in your region. The review named XFX Swift and Sapphire Pulse examples; it does not establish that every benchmark cited here used those exact board-partner cards. Check the exact model, local availability, and current price before buying. See The FPS Review’s RX 9070 GRE coverage.
