Dan Houser, the Rockstar Games co-founder who now leads Absurd Ventures, says the studio expects to share more about two games: an open-world comedy and a dystopian science-fiction title. He said more information on the comedy is expected “in the next few months,” but no exact reveal date has been announced.
Who is making the games?
These are Absurd Ventures projects, not games announced by Rockstar Games. Houser co-founded Rockstar and later founded Absurd Ventures, which is developing stories and entertainment across different formats. Insider Gaming’s October 2, 2026 report attributes the descriptions and timing to Houser speaking on Variety’s Strictly Business podcast.
What are the two games about?
| Project | Genre and tone | Associated world | Stated hook |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open-world comedy | Comedy | Absurdaverse | Leans into comedy and character memory |
| Dystopian sci-fi | Dystopian science fiction | A Better Paradise | A video-game development goes badly wrong, involving a rogue AI that discovers sentience |
The open-world comedy
Houser described one project as “an open-world comedy which is trying to really lean into comedy and character memory.” The Guardian’s December 2025 interview describes Absurdaverse as a comedy universe and the game as a “living sitcom”; Houser also characterized it as mechanics-driven, with a goal of combining accessibility and depth. Those descriptions point to a game built around comic situations and characters that retain memories, but they do not establish exactly how those ideas work in play. The Guardian interview
Absurdaverse is the associated fictional universe, not a confirmed final title for the game. No official game name has been announced in the cited reporting.

The dystopian science-fiction game
Houser described the other project as “a dystopian sci-fi about a video game development gone very wrong, and about a rogue AI that discovered sentience. But unfortunately, it was made by two people that didn’t like each other, so it doesn’t like itself.” The premise links a troubled creative process to an AI whose origins shape its own hostility; it is separate from the comedy game’s character-memory idea.
The game is connected to A Better Paradise, an Absurd Ventures story world. The Guardian reported that the 12-part story podcast was released in 2024, later became a novel, and was being developed as an open-world game adaptation. In an earlier interview, Houser said the game was in early development in Santa Monica at the time of that conversation; that earlier status does not establish its current development stage.
