That outcome has not been formally confirmed in the official merger announcements reviewed here. The Paramount Skydance–Warner Bros. Discovery deal was still pending as of October 2; the companies said they expected it to close October 6, subject to customary conditions.
What the report says about Gunn and Safran
An October 2 story from Canadian Reviews, citing Deadline, says Gunn and Safran will continue in their roles after a successful meeting with Ellison. This is reported leadership continuity—not an official announcement from DC Studios, Warner Bros. Discovery, or Paramount Skydance. The underlying Deadline report was not directly available in the materials reviewed, and the companies’ transaction announcements do not independently confirm the DC leadership detail.
There is no verified statement from Gunn, Safran, or Ellison in the official materials reviewed that spells out who will lead DC Studios after the merger. The careful answer to whether they are staying is: according to the October 2 report, yes; an official confirmation has not been established here.
When the merger was expected to close
Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery said on September 30 that they anticipated closing the transaction on October 6, 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. As of October 2, the deal had not closed, so any description of DC’s post-merger management remains prospective.

What the regulatory decision does—and does not—say
On June 12, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division said it had completed its investigation and concluded that the proposed merger was not likely to harm competition or American consumers in the markets it specified: streaming video on demand, linear television, and theatrical film development, production, or distribution. That is the agency’s conclusion about those markets; it is not a finding about creative leadership, DC’s project slate, or every possible effect of the transaction.

- The official materials reviewed do not confirm Gunn and Safran’s post-merger positions.
- They do not establish changes to DC’s organizational structure or creative direction.
- This report does not verify current dates or production status for individual DC projects, so it should not be treated as confirmation of a changed or unchanged slate.
The leadership claim and the transaction facts have different evidence status: the former is attributed to secondary reporting, while the merger schedule and Kreiz appointment were announced by the companies. Until an official DC, WBD, or Paramount statement addresses Gunn and Safran directly, their reported continuation should not be described as formally revealed.
