That is an approximately 95% reduction in first-launch shader-compilation time, according to Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog published October 1, 2026. The figure is a Microsoft result, not an independently reproduced multi-GPU laboratory benchmark.
What Advanced Shader Delivery changes
PC games traditionally compile many hardware-specific shaders when they first run. That work can consume substantial CPU time and may contribute to shader-related stutter as new effects appear during play. ASD moves the work earlier: the developer prepares a state-object and shader database package, and the game delivers that precompiled data with its download.
On a compatible system, the first launch can therefore use the delivered package instead of compiling the same shaders locally. Microsoft says this reduces startup CPU work and helps avoid first-run shader stutter, although it is not a guarantee that every form of PC hitching disappears.
How much faster is E-Day’s first launch?
| Scenario | Time described by Microsoft | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Gears of War: E-Day with ASD | A few seconds | Microsoft’s October 1, 2026 DirectX Developer Blog description for supported configurations |
| Gears of War: E-Day without ASD | Several minutes | Microsoft’s comparison with a typical PC; no single hardware test system is specified |
| Stated improvement | Approximately 95% less shader-compilation time | Microsoft-reported result, not an independent cross-GPU measurement |
Microsoft and Xbox Developer materials also describe “up to 95%” launch-time reduction for supported games. Qualcomm reports more than 95% time savings in its Snapdragon X2 Elite Series example of E-Day. Those figures should not be treated as a universal percentage for every GPU, driver, storefront or game update.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Will ASD stop shader stutter?
It targets one common source of stutter: shaders being compiled during the first launch or while the game encounters effects for the first time. Delivering precompiled shaders can remove or reduce that work on compatible systems. Stutter caused by asset streaming, CPU limits, storage performance, unstable drivers, background processes or other engine systems can still occur. ASD is a delivery feature, not a general-purpose performance optimizer.
PC requirements and supported hardware
Microsoft’s published baseline is Windows 11 version 24H2 or newer. Support is expanding across the Windows ecosystem rather than being limited to one GPU vendor.

| Hardware family | Published requirement |
|---|---|
| AMD Radeon | RDNA 1 through RDNA 4 with Adrenalin 26.6.1 or newer |
| Qualcomm | Snapdragon X2 Series with driver 2026.08.3 or newer |
| Intel | Expansion planned for Arc B-Series and Core Ultra Series 2 and 3 |
| NVIDIA | Expansion planned for RTX GPUs and RTX Spark |
The Intel and NVIDIA entries are described by Microsoft as later expansion, so their availability can depend on the relevant game, driver and rollout status. Meeting a GPU-family name alone does not establish that ASD is active: Windows, driver, game package and storefront support all have to line up.
Where can you use ASD with E-Day?
Microsoft tells players to install the Xbox PC app before downloading. Xbox Wire identifies Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app support for the feature, while broader storefront support is planned over time. The published material therefore does not establish that every Steam or other PC-store release supports ASD on day one.

Check the game’s current store listing and installation requirements for your region and edition. Installing a supported GPU driver and Windows 11 24H2 or later cannot add ASD to a storefront build that has not received the required package.
What happens when the game is updated?
Precompiled shader data must match the game’s state objects and shaders. Microsoft’s developer guidance says studios create and upload ASD packages through Xbox Partner Center and refresh those packages when an update causes package drift. A substantial game update can therefore require a new package download; ASD does not make shader data permanently independent of patches.

What players should check before launching
- Windows: confirm the PC is running Windows 11 24H2 or newer.
- Driver: install the required vendor driver, such as AMD Adrenalin 26.6.1 or newer for supported RDNA hardware, or Qualcomm driver 2026.08.3 or newer for Snapdragon X2 Series.
- App and storefront: install the Xbox PC app as Microsoft instructs and verify that your E-Day edition and storefront provide ASD.
- Updates: allow the game to finish downloading patches and any updated shader package before judging first-launch behavior.
- Expectations: treat the roughly 95% figure as Microsoft’s supported-configuration result, not a promise of identical seconds-versus-minutes performance on every PC.
What the claim does—and does not—prove
- It shows the potential benefit of delivering precompiled shaders with the game rather than compiling all of them locally at first launch.
- It does not provide an independent benchmark covering multiple GPUs, CPUs, drivers or storefronts.
- It does not mean every shader-related hitch or every form of stutter is eliminated.
- It does not make ASD a separately purchased utility; it is part of the game-platform delivery path.
For a supported Gears of War: E-Day installation, Microsoft’s evidence indicates a much shorter shader-compilation wait and a lower chance of shader-compilation stutter. Whether you receive that result depends on the exact Windows version, hardware, driver, game build and storefront package.
