GeForce NOW is already available as a native app for Steam Deck; it is not an upcoming release. NVIDIA announced the app on May 29, 2025, and its current download page provides Steam Deck setup instructions. You install it from Desktop Mode, then launch it from the Steam Library in Gaming Mode.
How to install GeForce NOW on Steam Deck
NVIDIA’s setup begins in Desktop Mode. Its instructions say the installation adds GeForce NOW to the Steam Library so it can be opened in Gaming Mode.
- Switch to Desktop Mode on the Steam Deck.
- Open NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW download page on the Deck and follow the Steam Deck download instructions.
- Extract the downloaded script and execute the setup file, as directed by NVIDIA.
- Return to Gaming Mode, open the Steam Library, and launch GeForce NOW.
These steps reflect NVIDIA’s published setup flow; they are not a claim of independent testing.
What the app enables—and what the figures mean
GeForce NOW streams supported games from NVIDIA’s cloud gaming servers rather than running those games locally on the Deck. NVIDIA’s May 29, 2025 announcement describes streaming at up to 4K and 60 frames per second when the Deck is connected to a TV. It also lists HDR10, DLSS 4 and Reflex for supported titles. The 4K/60 claim is specifically tied to a TV-connected setup, and the named technologies do not apply to every game.

NVIDIA’s 2025 announcement also reported access to 2,200+ supported games across libraries including Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft, Battle.net and Xbox, plus 180+ supported PC Game Pass titles. Those are dated vendor figures, not verified live catalog totals for 2026; a game must be supported by GeForce NOW and available through a linked library to play.
NVIDIA also claimed that streaming from an RTX gaming rig in the cloud can provide up to 50% longer battery life. That is NVIDIA’s 2025 claim, not an independently verified result here or a guarantee for every game or use pattern.

Check your network before choosing a stream quality
NVIDIA’s system requirements page lists these connection targets. Meeting a bandwidth target alone does not guarantee smooth play: actual results also depend on connection quality, latency and the game and device features in use.
| Streaming target | NVIDIA-listed bandwidth |
|---|---|
| HD, up to 60 FPS | 15 Mbps |
| FHD, 60 FPS | 25 Mbps |
| QHD, 90/120 FPS | 35 Mbps |
NVIDIA specifies latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center and recommends wired Ethernet or a 5 GHz Wi-Fi router. Compare those options using the connection you actually have and its latency; neither is a universal promise of stable play. NVIDIA says Ultimate membership is required for features such as 1440p and 90/120 FPS on a supported device. Check the current GeForce NOW system requirements for device and feature eligibility.

When a TV setup or dock makes sense
NVIDIA’s 4K/60 description is for a Steam Deck connected to a TV. A dock is therefore an optional way to create that big-screen setup, not a requirement for using GeForce NOW on the Deck. NVIDIA’s announcement discusses docking but does not endorse a specific dock model.
GeForce NOW streaming versus playing locally
Whether cloud streaming suits a particular game depends on more than the app being installed. Consider these factors before deciding how to play:
Rank #4
- 512 GB NVMe SSD: Fast storage for quicker game load times and space for larger game libraries.
- OLED Display: 1200x800 resolution with deep contrasts and vibrant colors for a captivating visual experience.
- Custom AMD APU: Power-efficient Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU for desktop-level gaming performance.
- Expandable Storage: Add more space with a microSD card slot, ensuring you can bring even more games with you.
- Versatile Controls: With built-in thumbsticks, trackpads, and touchscreen controls, you have full control over your gaming experience.
- Game access: Confirm the title is supported by GeForce NOW and available through a linked store or library.
- Connection: Streaming depends on your internet connection and latency to an NVIDIA data center; local play does not rely on that streaming connection.
- Resolution and frame rate: The available stream depends on the membership tier and supported device and game features.
- Where you play: The Deck can be used as a handheld, while NVIDIA’s up-to-4K/60 description concerns a TV-connected setup.
- Battery expectations: NVIDIA’s up-to-50%-longer claim applies to streaming from an RTX rig in the cloud and should be treated as a vendor claim, not a guaranteed Deck runtime.
What changed since the announcement
NVIDIA’s August 27, 2026 Gamescom post discusses later Steam Machine and Controller support in the context of existing Steam Deck support. That later announcement does not make the Deck app a future release: NVIDIA announced its availability in 2025, and its download page continues to provide a Steam Deck setup path.
