1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDynamic diffuse global illumination (DDGI) can add convincing bounced light without baking a lightmap. In the Android/Vulkan workflow described by Jackson Jiang, an HMS Core Scene Kit DDGI plugin receives your scene data, updates irradiance and normal/depth textures, and those results are added during shading. The technique improves indirect diffuse lighting, but it is not a complete global-illumination solution and the 2022 tutorial’s package and compatibility status should be verified before you build around it.
What DDGI actually does
DDGI places probes in a regular volume. Rays gather radiance and distance around the probes; the resulting data is blended over time and interpolated when a surface is shaded. That produces indirect diffuse light that responds to changing lights and geometry.
NVIDIA’s RTXGI documentation states: “DDGI does not solve the complete global illumination problem, and it is best used for the diffuse irradiance component of the full lighting equation.” It is therefore a low-frequency signal: glossy reflections, sharp indirect shadows and other fine detail need complementary techniques. Temporal accumulation also means the lighting response is not instantaneous, and storing probe data can consume substantial memory in large environments.
Android and Vulkan integration workflow
Jiang’s tutorial is specifically an HMS Core Scene Kit plugin integration, not a universal DDGI API. The implementation follows this sequence:

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
- Initialize Vulkan and the plugin. Provide the Vulkan device and queue information required by the Scene Kit API.
- Create output images. Allocate textures for irradiance and for normal/depth data, then pass their Vulkan image descriptions to the plugin. A lower output resolution can improve rendering performance, at the cost of softer edges and less detail.
- Describe the scene. Pass meshes, materials, lights, camera data and output resolution.
- Configure the probe volume. Set its origin, spacing and probe count, then prepare the plugin.
- Refresh changing inputs. When meshes, lights or the camera change, submit the new data before rendering. If you skip the plugin render after a scene change, its textures remain based on the previous state.
- Render and shade. Call the plugin render function to update the textures and add the irradiance result to your lighting calculation. When using reduced-resolution output, the example applies normal/depth-aware bilateral upsampling.
The exact function names, resource layouts and compatibility requirements depend on the plugin version; the 2022 article does not establish support for current Android or Vulkan toolchains.
Probe placement and geometry choices
Cover the playable space
Center the probe origin in the scene and size the volume so it covers the entire area that needs indirect lighting. Gaps outside the volume can produce missing or unstable illumination as the camera or objects move beyond the sampled region.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Reduce leaks at walls
The tutorial recommends walls thicker than the probe density and suggests representing a wall with two single-sided planes. Thin geometry can let probes sample light from the wrong side, causing visible light leaks. Treat this as guidance for the described plugin workflow, not as a universal DDGI rule.
Use the author’s mobile starting limits carefully
For the tutorial’s mobile target, Jiang suggests passing meshes with no more than 50,000 vertices and using probe dimensions up to 10 × 10 × 10. These are author recommendations for performance and power consumption, not measured benchmarks or algorithm limits. Profile your own devices and scenes before adopting them as hard caps.

Quality, performance and latency trade-offs
- Resolution: Lower-resolution irradiance and normal/depth outputs cost less to render, but require upsampling and can lose edge fidelity.
- Probe density: More probes improve spatial coverage and can reduce interpolation error, while increasing update work and memory.
- Temporal response: Accumulation smooths noise but introduces a delay before lighting reflects a change.
- Signal detail: DDGI primarily supplies diffuse irradiance; use additional occlusion, shadowing or reflection methods for high-frequency effects.
- Scene updates: Dynamic meshes and lights require refreshed inputs and a new plugin render. Otherwise, the output represents an earlier scene state.
How the main DDGI paths differ
| Option | Target | Runtime responsibilities | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| HMS Core Scene Kit DDGI plugin | Android renderer using Vulkan | The plugin produces irradiance and normal/depth outputs after receiving scene, camera and light data. | The procedure and mobile limits come from Jiang’s 2022 tutorial; current package availability and support are not established. |
| NVIDIA RTXGI DDGI SDK | Renderer integration with NVIDIA’s DDGI implementation | The host owns acceleration structures, shader tables, pipeline state and probe-ray dispatch; the SDK handles probe-data blending, classification, relocation and border updates. | Runtime updates require a ray-tracing-capable API. NVIDIA also documents loading precomputed probe data for platforms without runtime GPU ray tracing. |
| Unreal Engine Lumen | Unreal Engine projects | Engine-managed dynamic global illumination and reflections. | It is an engine system, not the HMS or RTXGI API. Unreal’s surfaced 5.8 documentation describes it as fully dynamic and the engine default. |
These are different integration paths, and the available sources do not provide a same-scene benchmark. Choose according to engine, graphics API, runtime ray-tracing support, who owns ray and probe work, whether precomputed data is acceptable, and your memory, latency and image-quality budget.

Lighting does not change after an edit
Confirm that changed meshes, lights or camera data are submitted and that the plugin render call runs for the updated frame. Skipping that update leaves the previous textures active.

Light appears through a wall
Check probe coverage, wall thickness and single-sided geometry. Increase physical thickness or adjust probe spacing so probes are not sampling both sides of a thin barrier.
Edges look soft at a distance
Inspect the irradiance output resolution and bilateral upsampling parameters. Raising the output resolution improves detail but increases cost.
