The practical case for co-op is clearer: Gears of War: E-Day’s campaign supports solo play, two-player local split-screen on console, and online co-op for up to four players.
Can you play the E-Day campaign in co-op?
Yes. Xbox lists three ways to play the campaign: solo, local split-screen with two players on console, or online co-op with up to four players. The official specifications establish group size and setup—not that co-op is more enjoyable for everyone.

Does E-Day have split-screen?
Yes, but the stated split-screen option is local campaign co-op for two players on console. The official information does not list split-screen for PC. If you want to play together in the same room, plan on the console version rather than assuming the PC edition has local split-screen.

What do you need for online campaign co-op?
Online campaign co-op supports up to four players. Xbox says online multiplayer requires a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer, sold separately. Check the current subscription terms for your platform and region before buying; the product page does not establish that every Game Pass tier qualifies.
Xbox Wire’s October 1, 2026 launch post lists Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam. It also says cloud gaming is available through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW; those are access options, not stated requirements for playing campaign co-op. Availability and subscription terms can change.

How co-op fits the game—and what it does not promise
The official player counts make E-Day flexible for different groups: a solo run, a two-person couch session on console, or an online squad of as many as four. Whether that is more fun depends on how you like to play. Co-op can make a shared campaign a social activity, while solo keeps the experience on your own schedule; the available official information does not quantify a fun advantage or establish that one format is better.
Keep campaign co-op separate from the game’s other multiplayer features. The official multiplayer overview says Combat Training supports four-player co-op. It also describes earning nearly every customization item through multiplayer activities such as challenges, achievements, medals, matches, and Coins. Those details concern multiplayer progression; they are not campaign features.

When does E-Day launch, and where can you play?
As of October 3, 2026, early access has begun: Xbox Wire says it went live worldwide on October 1. The same post schedules the worldwide launch for October 6, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. PT / 15:00 UTC. It is an optional behind-the-scenes read, not something needed to play. The official Collector’s Edition listing describes a Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago statue, replica COG tags, lithograph, in-game photo, SteelBook, and game entitlement. Its displayed price and stock status can change, so check the shop directly for current details. None of these items is required for co-op.
