Yes, Ubisoft’s current Terms of Use allow it to suspend or close accounts that have been inactive for a long time and meet specified criteria. However, the policy does not establish a universal six-month purge. Ubisoft says affected users must receive at least 30 days’ notice explaining the criteria, consequences and steps to keep the account open. The exact threshold and any exception for your account are stated, if at all, in the warning notice sent to you.
Why the “six-month deletion” claim is misleading
Older Ubisoft terms and support material referred to accounts inactive for more than six months. That wording helped fuel the recurring claim that every Ubisoft account is automatically deleted after six months.
The current U.S. terms use different language: an account may be closed when it has been “inactive for a long time” and meets “specific inactivity criteria.” The public terms do not give one universal number. Instead, Ubisoft says the criteria will be explained in the notice sent to the affected account holder. See the current Terms of Use and the current U.S. terms PDF.
What Ubisoft’s current policy actually promises
Long-term inactivity can lead to closure
Ubisoft reserves the right to suspend or close an account after prolonged inactivity when its stated criteria are met. This is a discretionary process, not a statement that every dormant account is automatically erased on a fixed date.

- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
At least 30 days’ warning
The terms say Ubisoft will provide at least 30 days’ prior notice before an inactivity-based closure. The notice should explain the consequences and the steps available to keep the account open.
One closure can affect multiple accounts
The current terms also say Ubisoft may suspend or close all of a user’s accounts once one account has been closed through this process. If you maintain several Ubisoft accounts, check each one rather than assuming only the account named in an email is relevant.
Data deletion is not always the same as account deletion
Ubisoft’s Privacy Policy describes more than one possible action:

- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.
- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
- Selected data deletion: Some data may be removed after prolonged inactivity without affecting the game library.
- Full account closure: Access to the Ubisoft account and services ends, and profile information or user-generated content may be deleted.
- Game or service loss for another reason: A ban, server shutdown, delisting, subscription expiry or technical problem is separate from an inactivity closure.
Those categories explain why a statement about deleting inactive personal data does not automatically mean that an entire library has vanished. Full closure has much broader consequences than a retention cleanup.
What can be lost if Ubisoft closes the account?
Ubisoft’s Privacy Policy says full account closure can remove access to:
- the Ubisoft account;
- games and game progression;
- Ubisoft online services;
- outstanding Ubisoft Store orders; and
- links to external accounts.
Ubisoft also says associated data cannot be recovered after deletion is complete. Some PlayStation or Xbox-associated information may remain in a non-identifiable form; requests about platform-held data must be directed to the relevant platform.

Are accounts with purchased games protected?
What Ubisoft said in 2023
During the 2023 controversy, Ubisoft told PC Gamer that accounts with purchased games or active subscriptions were not eligible for inactivity deletion. The same report said Ubisoft had not deleted accounts inactive for less than four years at that time. Those statements described Ubisoft’s then-current practice, not a permanent guarantee.
What the current terms say
The current terms retrieved in 2026 do not plainly repeat a universal exemption for every account with a purchase or subscription. Therefore, neither of these broad claims is supported: that all purchased-game accounts are permanently immune, or that Ubisoft is currently deleting every purchased library.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf your account has purchases and you receive a warning, treat the account-specific notice as the controlling information and ask Ubisoft Support to confirm the criteria being applied.

“Purchased games” can mean different things
| Account situation | What to understand |
|---|---|
| Game bought directly from Ubisoft | The entitlement is associated with the Ubisoft account; preserve receipts and account details. |
| Game bought on Steam or Epic | The storefront purchase remains on that platform, but Ubisoft Connect authentication, linking, progression or online features may still depend on the Ubisoft account. |
| Game bought on PlayStation or Xbox | The platform entitlement and Ubisoft account link are separate records. Full Ubisoft closure can break the link and access to Ubisoft services. |
| Ubisoft+ subscription | This is temporary subscription access, not ownership of the catalog. Ubisoft+ requires an active Ubisoft account; suspension or termination can end access to its services and games. See the Ubisoft+ terms. |
| Free-to-play game, demo or trial | There may be no purchased entitlement to preserve, while account data, progression and online access can still depend on the Ubisoft account. |
Do not assume that a third-party storefront purchase makes the Ubisoft account optional. Save both the storefront receipt and the Ubisoft account information.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is GDPR forcing Ubisoft to delete your games?
Ubisoft cites privacy and data-retention obligations as the rationale for its inactivity process. Its legal update and Terms of Use describe the policy in those terms.
That does not establish that GDPR requires Ubisoft to erase a complete gaming account after six months, or that it requires deletion of purchased-game access. The defensible conclusion is narrower: Ubisoft says data-retention principles allow or require it to manage long-term inactive accounts, while the public terms do not set a single GDPR-mandated deadline.

What to do when you receive an inactivity email
- Verify the message. Check the sender and links. Do not provide a password, authentication code or payment information in response to an unexpected email. Open Ubisoft Account Management manually instead of relying on a suspicious link.
- Sign in while the account is still accessible. Logging in is the safest first action. If the official notice presents a cancellation or reactivation control, use the option shown there. Historical 2023 notices reportedly used a “Cancel Account Closure” link, but the current interface may differ.
- Check ownership and links. Review Ubisoft purchases, Ubisoft+ status and linked Steam, Epic, PlayStation or Xbox accounts. Save receipts, screenshots and the warning email.
- Contact Support if the warning looks wrong. Ask which inactivity criteria apply and whether the account is scheduled for closure. Include the notice, account email, Ubisoft username, purchase evidence and linked-platform details. Never send your password or one-time security code.
- Act quickly if access is already blocked. Explain that you received an inactivity notice and request clarification. Ubisoft says completed deletion may make associated data unrecoverable, so support cannot be expected to restore every closed account.
A single login or cancellation action can stop a specific pending closure, but Ubisoft does not promise permanent immunity from future inactivity processing. If another warning arrives later, handle that notice separately.
Special cases that often cause confusion
You lost the old email address or two-factor-authentication access
An account can appear abandoned when the owner is actually locked out. Do not repeatedly guess credentials or use unofficial recovery services. Contact Ubisoft Support promptly, especially when the notice deadline is short, and provide ownership evidence.
You missed the warning
The terms promise prior notice, but messages can be filtered, sent to an obsolete address or impersonated. Check the account site directly, retain the message and record when you found it.
You have several Ubisoft accounts
Because the current terms allow action against all accounts after one is closed through this process, identify every account tied to your email addresses and platform links.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You voluntarily request deletion
A user-requested deletion is different from changing privacy settings or removing selected data. Ubisoft warns that account deletion removes access and that data may not be recoverable once the process is complete.
