“Minecraft PE” is the older name many players still use for Minecraft on phones and tablets; the current mobile game is Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. To sign in, use the Microsoft account linked to your Minecraft profile or purchases. If the login is stuck, sign out in Settings > Account, close and restart the game, update it, then sign in again.
How to sign in to Minecraft on a phone or tablet
Your device account and Minecraft account do different jobs: Android uses a Google account for the platform, while iPhone and iPad use an Apple ID. Minecraft’s cross-platform features use a Microsoft account. The Microsoft account can use an email address that is not Outlook or Hotmail, so use the one associated with your Minecraft profile or purchases. See Minecraft’s account requirements.

Labels can vary slightly by game version and device, and a Microsoft account already saved on the device may be selected automatically. For the mobile sign-in flow, see Minecraft Help’s mobile sign-in instructions.
Reset a stuck or failed sign-in
Refreshing Minecraft’s Microsoft-account session is a sensible first fix for stale credentials or a login that stopped partway through. Use this order:

- Install any available Minecraft update from Google Play Store on Android or the Apple App Store on iPhone or iPad.
- Reopen Minecraft and repeat the sign-in steps above.
The sign-out and reset path is documented in Minecraft’s sign-out instructions. Updating the game is also among the recommended steps for the Drowned sign-in error; see Minecraft’s Drowned troubleshooting guide.
If Minecraft keeps choosing the wrong account
A successful login with missing purchases, skins, or profile details often points to a different Microsoft account rather than a damaged installation. Sign out of Minecraft, then check which account is active in the device browser or Xbox app before signing in again. Choose the account that owns the game or contains the Marketplace purchases you expect.
If you are unsure which account that is, check the purchase-confirmation email or Microsoft account order history. Avoid creating more Microsoft accounts as a workaround: purchases, Minecoins, Realms, and profile content may remain associated with the original account. Minecraft’s sign-in troubleshooting guide explains how to verify ownership.

Try the Xbox app as a sign-in repair
Signing in to the Xbox app before reopening Minecraft can sometimes resolve an authentication error. It is a troubleshooting workaround, not a requirement for normal Minecraft mobile sign-in.

- Install or open the Xbox app on the phone or tablet.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account you intend to use in Minecraft.
- Check that the displayed gamertag, profile picture, and account are the right ones.
- Reopen Minecraft and try signing in.
This workaround is included in Minecraft’s sign-in troubleshooting guidance.
Find out whether the Microsoft account itself is the problem
If the sign-in window rejects your details or loops before returning to the game, try signing into the Microsoft account in a normal browser. If that fails too, use Microsoft’s official account-recovery or password-reset process and complete any requested security verification before retrying Minecraft. A changed password can prompt a fresh sign-in and may help with persistent authentication errors, but it is not a guaranteed fix.

Never give your password, security code, or account-recovery information to someone claiming to fix Minecraft sign-in.
Check the connection and service status
If the authentication window will not load or the game keeps timing out, separate a device or network problem from a temporary service issue. Minecraft directs players to check service status when sign-in errors persist; an outage cannot be confirmed without checking the relevant status page at the time you encounter the problem.
Recommended Free Tools
- Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, or try another network.
- Temporarily disable a VPN, private DNS setting, or aggressive ad blocker, then retry.
- Set the device date and time to update automatically.
- Make sure the internet connection works in another app or browser.
- If login is slow, wait for the response instead of repeatedly tapping Sign In.
These are practical connection checks, not proof that any one setting is the cause. If an official Microsoft, Xbox, PlayFab, Apple, or Google Play service is unavailable, local resets will not restore it; wait and try again when service returns. Minecraft’s related guidance is in its Drowned error guide and general Bedrock error troubleshooting.

When sign-in works but multiplayer or Marketplace does not
Multiplayer, Realms, or friends are unavailable
Being signed in does not automatically grant permission to join multiplayer games. If the account belongs to a child, a parent or family organizer may need to allow multiplayer, Realms, cross-network play, friend requests, or communication in Microsoft/Xbox family and privacy controls. Check the relevant permissions in Minecraft’s child-account multiplayer guide.
If permissions appear correct, check whether the platform requires an online subscription, whether the target Realm or world is available, and whether the account has a restriction. These are separate from the Microsoft sign-in itself.
Marketplace content is missing or will not load
First make sure Minecraft is using the Microsoft account that holds the purchases. If it is, update the game, restart it, and allow time for the account and Marketplace to synchronize. Missing Marketplace content alone does not prove sign-in failed. See Minecraft’s Marketplace error troubleshooting.

Use error codes to choose a troubleshooting direction
Minecraft’s named codes point toward useful checks, but do not establish a unique cause on their own. Use the matching steps below rather than treating a code as a diagnosis.
| Error or symptom | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Drowned | Refresh the Microsoft sign-in, update Minecraft, check service status, and verify account credentials. |
| Axolotl, Bamboo, Crossbow, Elder Guardian, Guardian, or Honeycomb | Try signing out and back in. |
| Creaking | Check the network connection used during Microsoft sign-in. |
| Blaze | Check whether the same account is being used on another device. |
| End Stone | Check account synchronization and avoid using the same account on multiple devices at once. |
| Ghast | Verify the credentials, then sign out and restart. |
| Glowstone | Reset the sign-in session and check service status. |
| Spyglass | Check permissions, particularly multiplayer settings. |
| Sugar Cane | Check whether the wrong Microsoft/Xbox account is linked to the current PlayStation Network account. |

Protect worlds before trying advanced fixes
Before clearing app data or uninstalling Minecraft, back up any locally stored worlds. Do not assume every local world has been synchronized to the cloud. Marketplace purchases are associated with the Microsoft account, but local world files and other device data need separate care.
- Check available device storage and close other apps.
- Temporarily disable add-ons or modifications if the game is behaving unpredictably.
- Use Minecraft’s supported backup or export options for worlds you want to keep.
- Consider clearing data or reinstalling only after safer steps fail and you have confirmed your world backups and account credentials.
General Bedrock guidance covers storage, add-ons, and other error troubleshooting in Minecraft’s error-code support article. Reinstalling cannot resolve a server outage or an account restriction.
When to contact Minecraft Support
If the account works in a browser but Minecraft still will not authenticate after the steps above, contact official Minecraft Support. Include the exact error text or code, device model, operating-system version, Minecraft version, gamertag, and the steps already tried. Do not include your password, security codes, or recovery details.
