Check D&D Beyond’s official status page first. Its latest indexed snapshot showed all listed systems operational, but that is only a point-in-time check; a new or regional incident can develop before the page changes. If Characters, Character Sheet, Campaigns, or Mobile App show an incident, the problem is probably on D&D Beyond’s side. If they are operational, test your browser, app, account, network, and the individual character before assuming the entire service is down.
Is D&D Beyond down right now?
D&D Beyond is not a single switch. The official status page reports components separately, including Homepage and Navigation, Characters, Character Builder, Character Sheet, Campaigns, Compendium and Game Listings, Mobile App, Marketplace, Maps VTT, Encounter Builder, and Avrae Discord Bot. A homepage can load while character sheets or campaigns are failing.
The latest indexed status snapshot available for this article showed all listed systems operational, and the status history showed no notices for August 2026 at that time. Treat that as a dated observation, not a guarantee that every account or region is working now. D&D Beyond has recorded partial and sitewide incidents in 2026, including outages on January 5 and January 12, a February 25 incident affecting campaigns, compendium, and forums, March latency and website problems, May 19 slowdowns and a short website outage, and a June 26–29 performance and errors incident during which forums were temporarily disabled.
How to read the status labels
- Operational: no known platform incident is listed, so local, account, network, or feature-specific troubleshooting is appropriate.
- Degraded performance: pages may be slow, time out, or work intermittently.
- Partial outage: some services work while characters, campaigns, compendium, or another component does not.
- Major outage: widespread failures are expected; follow the incident timeline rather than repeatedly changing local settings.
Outage or local problem?
| What you observe | More likely explanation |
|---|---|
| The status page reports a major or partial incident | D&D Beyond-side failure |
| Players in different locations see the same failure | Widespread or regional incident |
| Website and app fail on multiple networks | Service or account problem |
| Incognito mode works | Cookies, cache, or an extension |
| Cellular data works but Wi-Fi does not | Router, DNS, VPN, firewall, or ISP filtering |
| Only one browser fails | Browser configuration |
| Only one character fails | Character, campaign, homebrew, or content issue |
| Status is green but many users report errors | A developing, regional, or unlisted incident is possible; do not claim certainty from the green indicator alone |
Quick test to see whether the failure is widespread
- Open status.dndbeyond.com and inspect the specific component, not just the overall page.
- Open D&D Beyond in a private or incognito window.
- Try both the website and the mobile app, if you have the app.
- Switch networks, such as cellular data instead of Wi-Fi.
- Ask another player or the DM whether the same feature works for them.
- Try another character or campaign to determine whether one record is affected.
D&D Beyond warns that workplace, school, library, and other managed networks may block the site and that it cannot help users circumvent those blocks. A VPN, private DNS service, antivirus filter, or router policy can produce the same symptoms without a platform-wide outage.

D&D Beyond characters are not loading in a browser
Use these steps in order, starting with the least disruptive. D&D Beyond’s guidance identifies cached data, cookies, ad blockers, third-party-cookie restrictions, pop-up blockers, antivirus tools, VPNs, private DNS, and blocked networks as possible causes. Its character-sheet guidance also specifically notes that NordVPN can interfere with viewing sheets for some users.
Fast checks
- Reload the character page.
- Open the same character in a private or incognito window.
- Try another supported browser or another device.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers, privacy or script blockers, password-manager page modifications, and pop-up blockers.
- Temporarily turn off a VPN or private DNS service, if you control those settings.
- Move from a managed network to a personal connection.
Clear only D&D Beyond’s site data
- Log out of D&D Beyond if the site allows it.
- Use your browser’s site settings to delete D&D Beyond cookies and cached files rather than clearing every website’s data. Clearing all cookies can sign you out elsewhere.
- Close and reopen the browser.
- Sign in again and reopen the character sheet.
Clearing cache and cookies is an official recommended step, not a guaranteed fix. If the problem continues, try restarting the modem or router, then retest on another network.
D&D Beyond app not working or stuck on login
- Force-close and reopen the app.
- Confirm the device has a working internet connection.
- Sign out and back in if possible.
- Install any app update offered by the device’s app store.
- Restart the device.
- Try D&D Beyond in a mobile browser to separate an app problem from an account or service problem.
- If login remains stuck, review registered devices at dndbeyond.com/account/mobile-devices and remove stale entries before contacting support.
Do not reinstall the app or erase its data until you know the latest character changes and purchased content have synchronized. Offline access depends on content being downloaded or cached on the device.

Need your character for a game right now?
Use previously downloaded mobile content
D&D Beyond says sources downloaded in its mobile app are fully functional offline. Its wording for character-sheet offline access is more qualified: the aim is to make as much character information as possible available offline. Test the sheet before game night instead of assuming every feature will work without a connection.
Export a form-fillable PDF
- Open the character.
- Select Manage near the character’s name.
- Select Export to PDF.
The export instructions are documented at Export Sheet. Save the file locally, print it, or share it with the DM. A PDF is a static snapshot: it will not update after level-ups, equipment changes, hit points, spell slots, or campaign changes. Export a new copy after meaningful changes, and keep it somewhere that does not require a live cloud login.
Keep a second copy
- Print the sheet.
- Store the PDF on your phone or computer.
- Save screenshots of key statistics for emergency reference.
- Keep a plain-text note with ability scores, saving throws, attacks, AC, hit points, spell save DC, spell slots, equipment, and important class features.
- Ask the DM to retain a copy.
Screenshots are useful but stale and hard to edit, so they should supplement rather than replace a complete sheet.

What common error symptoms mean
500, 503, or 504 errors
A 500 error generally indicates a server-side failure, although a feature-specific request can also trigger it. A 503 usually means a service is unavailable or overloaded. A 504 means a gateway did not receive a timely response. None of these codes alone proves a platform-wide outage; compare the error with the status components and test another network or device.
Login loop or repeated sign-in prompt
Stale cookies, expired authentication tokens, third-party-cookie restrictions, app-device registration, or a broader Wizards authentication problem can all cause repeated prompts. Test a private window, clear D&D Beyond site data, and review the registered mobile-device list.

Blank sheet or endless spinner
Prioritize a cache and cookie reset, an incognito test, disabling extensions and VPN or private DNS, another browser or device, and a different character. Do not delete or recreate the character merely because the page is blank.

Character opens but campaign or compendium does not
This pattern is consistent with a partial outage. Check Characters, Campaigns, and Compendium separately on the status page instead of assuming the character is corrupted.
Only homebrew content fails
Capture screenshots and note the affected homebrew item. Check status and support before deleting, duplicating, or rebuilding the character.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When the status page says operational but D&D Beyond still fails
A green status page cannot rule out a regional incident, account problem, browser setting, network block, or character-specific defect. If the same issue survives multiple browsers, devices, and networks, treat it as an account or service problem even if no incident is listed.

When to stop troubleshooting
- The status page is operational, but the same failure occurs across browsers, devices, and networks.
- One character consistently fails while other characters load.
- Purchases or shared campaign content disappear.
- Login still fails after clearing site data and checking registered app devices.
- The problem remains after an incident is marked resolved.
- You risk data loss or overwriting a character.
Contact D&D Beyond Technical Support. Include your account email or login method, browser and version, operating system, device model and app version, character or campaign URL when safe, exact error code, time and time zone, tests performed on other browsers, devices, or networks, and screenshots.
Alternatives during an outage
A printed sheet, exported PDF, compact text backup, or a copy held by the DM is the fastest fallback. Another digital platform may help if you are willing to transfer values manually. Roll20’s mobile-browser experience supports D&D 5e and 5.5e sheets, compendiums, editing, and rolls into an active game, and Roll20 says mobile-browser use is free. It does not provide maps or token movement on mobile, and it is not an automatic import of every D&D Beyond character or purchase.
Quick Recap
Prevent the next game-night failure
- Export a fresh PDF after each level-up or major character change.
- Download needed mobile sources before leaving home.
- Keep a printed or local copy, not only a cloud file requiring live authentication.
- Test the offline copy before the session.
- Do not rely on one online sheet for a live game.
