First open the Download Manager and check for another download, a paused task, or an update setting that may be holding it back. If nothing explains the queue, check Epic’s service status, restart and sign back in, then work through cache, network, and installation-drive checks. Avoid cancelling or reinstalling until you know what is blocking progress.
What “Queued” means—and when it is actually stuck
Queued means the Download Manager has not started that item as its active task. Epic does not publish one universal cause or one guaranteed “unqueue” button; the cause can be queue order, a setting, a service or connection issue, or launcher state.
Check the item’s status before troubleshooting. A queued item is different from a slow transfer, a temporary 0 B/s reading, or a failed installation. Epic notes that network speed can drop to 0 while the launcher writes downloaded data to disk, so visible disk activity may mean it is still working: Epic’s explanation of 0 B/s during downloads.
- Queued: The transfer has not become active.
- Downloading slowly: Data is arriving, but at a low rate.
- 0 B/s temporarily: The launcher may be writing or unpacking files; check for disk activity before assuming it is frozen.
- Verifying or installing: The network may be idle while files are checked or written.
- Error or failure: The launcher has encountered a specific problem; read the error and use its retry or troubleshooting option.
The Download Manager shows active and recent downloads and provides controls for priority, scheduling, speed limits, and other download behavior. Its labels can vary slightly by launcher version. See Epic’s Download Manager guide.

1. Inspect the queue and give the game priority
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and select Download Manager in the lower-left area.
- Look through active, paused, and queued items. Check whether another game or update is already running, whether the affected item is paused, and whether another task has priority.
- If another download is unnecessary, pause it rather than cancelling it. Pausing avoids discarding a task while you test whether it is blocking the queue.
- In the Library, select the three-dot menu beside the affected game and choose Manage. Enable Priority Downloads if available, or reorder the downloads in Download Manager. Epic documents priority controls and drag-and-drop ordering; availability and labels may differ by launcher version.
- Retry the queued item and watch whether its status changes to downloading.
If just one item was queued behind another task, this should expose the cause. If every game is queued, move on to service, launcher, and connection checks instead of repeatedly rearranging the list.
2. Check speed limits, scheduling, and gameplay settings
A speed limit more commonly makes a transfer slow than leaves it queued, but it is quick to rule out. In Download Manager, select Download Settings. Under Download Speed, make sure Limit download speeds is unchecked, then restart the launcher and retry. Epic also documents this route: profile icon → Settings → Download Settings → uncheck Limit Download Speeds. See Epic’s speed-limit instructions. If the launcher identifies a throttled download, it may show IS-INFO-THROTTLED; see Epic’s explanation of that message.
If the queued item is an update, review automatic-update scheduling in Download Settings. Also check whether a game is running and whether the launcher is set to allow installs while you play; close the game and retry. Epic documents these settings, but does not say that scheduling or gameplay explains every queued item.
3. Check whether Epic’s services are having a problem
Before changing files or reinstalling, check the Epic Games Server Status page. Look at Epic Games Store, Epic Games Launcher, authentication, and download-related services. Status changes over time, so the page—not an old report—is the place to check whether there is a current incident.

- Supports IPv4/IPv6 pack Checksum Offload Engine (COE) to reduce Cental Processing Unit (CPU) loading
- Compatible with Windows 8.1 or higher, Mac OS
Epic recommends checking service status when troubleshooting launcher problems; if an outage is in progress, local changes may not help until service returns. See Epic’s launcher troubleshooting guidance.
4. Restart the launcher and sign in again
If the queue remains stuck and no outage or competing download explains it, try Epic’s stuck-download recovery sequence. It is primarily for the PC launcher; menu wording may differ by version. Save work in other applications before force-closing processes.
- In Epic Games Launcher, sign out of your account and the launcher.
- On Windows, open Task Manager and end remaining Epic Games tasks. Do not force-close unrelated applications.
- Relaunch Epic, open Settings, and enable Debug Logging.
- Return to the login screen and select Sign In Later.
- Select the game you want to download; the launcher should redirect you to sign in.
- Sign in and select Download again.
Debug logging is for diagnosis if you need to contact support; turning it on is not itself a repair. Epic’s full procedure is at its stuck-download support page.
5. Clear the launcher cache
Cache clearing removes launcher web-cache data so Epic can rebuild it. It is not the same as deleting installed games or save files. Exit Epic fully first, including from the system tray, or files may remain in use. Epic recommends clearing cache for some launcher display, error, and installation problems; it is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix for every queue.

Windows
- Exit Epic Games Launcher completely from the system tray.
- Press Windows + R, enter
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Open
EpicGamesLauncherSaved. - Delete whichever of these folders are present:
webcache,webcache_4147, andwebcache_4430. - Relaunch Epic and retry the download.
macOS
- Quit Epic Games Launcher.
- In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder.
- Enter
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. - Delete the
webcachefolder, then empty the Trash if necessary. - Relaunch the launcher and retry.
See Epic’s Windows and macOS cache-clearing steps.
6. Check the connection gradually
Try these checks in order; each helps distinguish a network problem from a queue, disk, or launcher problem.
- Restart the modem or router.
- If you use Wi-Fi, try Ethernet to rule out wireless signal or interference. If practical, test another network or a phone hotspot.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or proxy and retry. Restore it afterward if needed.
- Check firewall or antivirus rules if Epic cannot connect or create files. Use a narrow, temporary test or a suitable exception; do not leave protection disabled.
- On Windows, flush DNS if ordinary connection checks do not help. Epic’s connection guide also covers public DNS, clock synchronization, required-domain allowlisting, hosts-file reset, and background applications.
A public DNS provider may help with name-resolution or routing problems, but it will not fix a full drive, a disabled launcher setting, or an Epic-side outage. Follow Epic’s connection troubleshooting guidance for platform-specific steps.
7. Check the installation drive and permissions
If the item leaves the queue but sits at 0 B/s, or the launcher reports an installation error, check the destination rather than treating it as a network problem.

- Confirm that the destination drive has enough free space and is connected. An external drive that sleeps, disconnects, or is unusually busy can interrupt installation.
- Check that the selected installation folder still exists and that your account can write to it.
- If security software appears to block file creation, use a temporary, narrow test or an appropriate exception; restore normal protection afterward.
- For a permission-related diagnosis on Windows, exit Epic, right-click its shortcut, and choose Run as administrator once, then retry. If this works only when elevated, investigate folder permissions, security software, or the install path rather than making elevated launch a permanent requirement.
Epic lists cache clearing and administrator launch among possible remedies for directory-creation and installation failures. Its guidance for IS-0003 and LS-0006 is relevant when those errors appear.
8. Verify files if an existing game update is stuck
Verification is useful for an existing installation that is stuck during an update, repeatedly re-downloads files, or reports corrupted or mismatched files. It is not the first fix for a new download that has never started, because there may be no complete installation to check.
- Open Library.
- Select the three dots beside the game, then choose Manage.
- Select Verify and wait for validation to finish.
Epic says verification checks local files and repairs differences without affecting saved data. See Epic’s verification instructions.

Epic publishes an advanced connection and download-speed troubleshooting change. It is not a guaranteed fix for a queued item. Back up the file before editing; if the change causes problems, remove the added block and relaunch Epic. The support page is hosted under Epic’s Spanish-language URL path, although the instructions are readable in English.

- On Windows, open
%localappdata%EpicGamesLauncherSavedConfigWindowsEngine.ini. - Make a backup copy of
Engine.ini. - If the file exists, add Epic’s suggested settings:
[HTTP]
HttpTimeout=10
HttpConnectionTimeout=10
HttpReceiveTimeout=10
HttpSendTimeout=10
[Portal.BuildPatch]
ChunkDownloads=3
ChunkRetries=20
RetryTime=0.5
Do not assume these values improve every connection. If the file does not exist, Epic’s cited instructions do not establish that creating one is appropriate for every current launcher version. See Epic’s Engine.ini guidance.
10. Reinstall only after less destructive checks
Reserve launcher reinstallation for cases where it is damaged, repeatedly fails to update, multiple games cannot download or launch, or Epic Support recommends a clean reinstall. Epic warns that reinstalling the launcher can remove installed titles. Before proceeding, confirm where games and saves are stored and consult Epic’s reinstall instructions. If only one title is affected, provide support with its error message and relevant logs before removing the launcher.
How to narrow down the cause
| What you see | What to check first | Likely area |
|---|---|---|
| One item is queued | Active or paused tasks, priority, scheduling | Queue management or download settings |
| Every game is queued | Epic status, full launcher restart and sign-in, cache, network | Service, session, or connection |
| It leaves Queued but stays at 0 B/s | Disk activity, free space, drive connection, write access | Unpacking, disk, or permissions |
| An existing game update is stuck | Whether the game is running, free space, Verify | Local files or update installation |
| The problem began after a settings change | Speed limit, schedule, custom Engine.ini changes | Launcher configuration |
These steps apply to the Epic Games Launcher on PC and Mac. They do not apply to console or mobile queue interfaces. In particular, Xbox’s “Error Connecting to Epic Services Queue” is a different message from a PC/Mac game download marked Queued; Epic directs Xbox users with that error to Microsoft Support. See Epic’s platform-specific troubleshooting page.
