1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSony released two anniversary console bundles: a retro-styled slim PS5 Digital Edition and a numbered PS5 Pro bundle. The gray finish and memorabilia evoke the 1994 PlayStation, but neither bundle includes a disc drive. The Digital Edition is not a performance upgrade; the Pro has the same performance features as a standard PS5 Pro, with anniversary styling and extras added.
Why the design feels like the original PlayStation
Sony’s 30th Anniversary Collection translates the original PlayStation’s gray color scheme and heritage branding onto current PS5 hardware. It is a homage, not a reproduction of the 1994 console. The retro effect carries through to the matching accessories and specially designed packaging.
Small details make the connection more tangible: the cable connector housing is styled after the original PlayStation controller plug, and four cable ties use PlayStation-shape designs. The bundles also include a poster, sticker and paperclip. Each poster is one of 30 possible designs. Sony announced the collection on September 19, 2024, with a November 21, 2024 release date. Sony’s announcement explains the design and launch details.
Which 30th Anniversary PS5 is it?
“30th Anniversary PS5” can mean either of two console bundles. Their underlying hardware and box contents differ substantially.

What changes—and what does not
PS5 Digital Edition bundle
The Digital Edition bundle’s difference from a regular slim PS5 Digital Edition is its gray anniversary exterior, heritage branding, matching controller, included stand and disc-drive cover, collectibles and special packaging. Sony does not advertise a distinct processor, graphics or storage-performance upgrade for this anniversary model. It remains a slim digital PS5.

PS5 Pro bundle
The Pro bundle gets its gaming performance from the PS5 Pro platform, not the anniversary finish. Sony lists 2TB of SSD storage, advanced ray tracing, AI-enhanced resolution using PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, and higher or more consistent frame rates in supported games. PS5 Pro Game Boost and backward compatibility for more than 8,500 PS4 games are also part of Sony’s Pro feature set. These are standard PS5 Pro capabilities, not anniversary-exclusive features. Sony notes that benefits depend on the game; compatible games and a suitable display are needed to take advantage of supported high-resolution and high-frame-rate modes. See Sony’s PS5 Pro feature information.

Does either anniversary console include a disc drive?
No. The PS5 Digital Edition is digital-only as sold, and the PS5 Pro bundle also omits the disc drive. The matching drive cover is only a cover; the compatible detachable drive must be purchased separately. Sony says the optional drive is intended for slim CFI-2000/CFI-2100 PS5 Digital Edition model groups and requires an internet connection to pair during setup. Check Sony’s PS5 information and PS5 Pro compatibility guide for model-specific compatibility. The Pro compatibility guide also warns that older CFI-1000 covers and CFI-2000 slim covers do not fit PS5 Pro consoles.
How limited was the release, and is it available now?
Sony said the PS5 Pro anniversary bundle was limited to 12,300 globally numbered units, a reference to December 3, 1994, the original PlayStation’s launch date. Sony announced preorders for September 26, 2024 in markets where PlayStation Direct was available; sales channels otherwise varied by country and included participating retailers.

On August 18, 2026, the official US anniversary Pro product page showed the bundle as sold out. Sony’s US collection page described remaining products as available in limited quantities at participating retailers and while supplies last. That is a dated US status, not proof that stock is identical in every region or that no retailer inventory or future restock can exist. Check the official US Pro product page and collection page for current listings.
The official US pages reviewed did not provide a dependable current selling price for the anniversary bundles. Do not treat a resale listing as Sony’s original price. For comparison only, Sony’s US store showed standard prices on August 18, 2026 of $599 for an 825GB PS5 Digital Edition, $649 for a 1TB PS5 with disc drive, and $899 for a 2TB PS5 Pro. Those are current standard-console prices, not anniversary bundle launch prices. They can be checked on Sony’s US PS5 store page.

What resale buyers should check
A limited production run can explain collector interest, but it does not guarantee that the console will appreciate in value. Before paying a premium for a used bundle, check that the listing is for the anniversary edition and whether it is complete.
- Confirm the console’s edition and, for the Pro, its numbered status.
- Compare the listing against the box contents above: stand, drive cover, cable housing, four ties, poster, sticker and paperclip are easy to overlook.
- For the Pro bundle, check for both controllers and the charging station as well as the console.
- Ask whether the console and controller are genuine anniversary items and whether the seller can provide provenance.
- Confirm return rights and warranty terms before buying; do not assume coverage transfers.
- Make sure the seller is not describing the drive cover as an included disc drive, and distinguish a complete bundle from a console-only listing.
Is the 30th Anniversary PS5 worth pursuing?
For original PlayStation collectors
It may be worthwhile if the gray design, heritage details and complete set of accessories matter to you. The numbered Pro bundle offers the stronger collectible package, but its scarcity is not evidence of future investment value.
For someone buying a first PS5
Choose based on hardware needs first. The anniversary Digital Edition suits a digital-games buyer who wants the retro styling; it does not add a documented performance boost. The Pro makes sense for someone who wants Pro features and has games and display equipment that can use them. If physical games or Blu-ray playback matter, budget for a compatible separate drive or choose a standard disc-drive PS5 instead.
For an existing PS5 owner
The Digital Edition anniversary bundle is mainly a design and collecting purchase. Moving to the anniversary Pro adds the standard PS5 Pro performance proposition, but the gray finish and memorabilia are the anniversary-specific additions. If you only want a touch of the design, look for an anniversary accessory through an official or authorized seller rather than paying a console-sized premium.
