It paired Bumblebee styling and a custom interface with the 7S Pro’s gaming hardware and a themed set of accessories. The launch materials confirmed a China release, not an official global launch.
Announcement, preorder and sale dates
The dates refer to different stages of the release:
- July 11, 2022: Nubia announced the Red Magic 7S series and Bumblebee collector’s edition at its China launch event.
- July 27, 2022: Chinese coverage reported that preorders for the Bumblebee edition opened.
- August 4, 2022: The edition went on sale in China.
- August 9, 2022: Red Magic announced the standard 7S Pro’s global availability. That was not confirmation of a worldwide Bumblebee release.
Nubia’s announcement confirms the collaboration and its China-market positioning; ITHome’s launch coverage reports the preorder and retail dates.
What made the Bumblebee edition different?
This was more than a yellow case or an unofficial custom paint job. Red Magic presented it as a licensed Transformers collaboration and its first transparent “Deuterium Front” IP collaboration edition. Its yellow-and-black exterior used racing-style graphics, mechanical detailing and Autobot branding alongside the transparent-look design associated with Red Magic phones.

Chinese product coverage also describes purple laser-etched Autobot and BUMBLEBEE markings, a themed gaming shoulder key and a camera detail styled as a glowing Bumblebee eye. The phone did not transform: the character showed up through its finish, graphics, interface and included memorabilia. ITHome’s coverage details the physical styling, while Gizmochina’s launch report summarizes the yellow-and-black design and custom UI.
Custom interface
The Chinese edition included Bumblebee-themed visuals and branding in its system presentation, including customized wallpapers. That customization was tied to the edition’s software as well as its exterior. A buyer considering a firmware change should not assume the theme will remain: a community report describes it changing or disappearing after a Chinese handset was converted to global software, but that report does not establish what happens on every device. The report is anecdotal, not a manufacturer guarantee.

What came in the collector’s box?
Launch coverage lists the following contents for the collector’s package:
- Red Magic 7S Pro Bumblebee handset, configured with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage
- Bumblebee-customized Red Magic Turbo Cooling Clip
- Themed thermal-protection case
- Customized 165W GaN charger and charging/data cable
- Bumblebee badge and Transformers-themed SIM-ejector pin
- Customized hexagonal, honeycomb-style collector packaging
The box’s 165W charger rating is not the phone’s charging rate: the Chinese-market handset was advertised for up to 135W charging. Red Magic also announced a Bumblebee cooling clip compatible with the 7 Pro and 7S Pro at 229 yuan regular price and 199 yuan launch price. That accessory price is separate from the 6,499-yuan phone-package price; it should not be treated as an extra charge for the clip listed in the collector’s box. ITHome’s report lists the package contents, and Nubia’s announcement gives the accessory pricing.

Core hardware: a themed 7S Pro, not a faster platform
The Bumblebee edition was a special configuration of the Red Magic 7S Pro rather than a separate performance model. Its documented 16GB RAM and 512GB storage supported the same 2022 gaming-phone platform, built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
- 5,000mAh battery and up to 135W charging in the Chinese-market specification
- Under-display camera
- 520Hz gaming shoulder triggers and dual X-axis linear motors
- Red Magic gaming-focused cooling and performance features
Red Magic’s international announcement documents the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 platform for the standard 7S Pro; Nubia’s China announcement supplies the edition’s configuration and Chinese-market battery and charging claims. Neither establishes a Bumblebee-specific processor, display or performance upgrade. Red Magic’s global 7S Pro announcement and Nubia’s China announcement distinguish the relevant product information.

Launch price and regional availability
The Bumblebee collector’s edition launched in China for 6,499 yuan. For context, the standard Chinese 7S Pro started at 5,199 yuan for the 12GB/256GB configuration, while the standard global 7S Pro was announced from $729. These are 2022 launch prices, not verified current prices or resale values. Nubia’s China announcement lists the collector-edition price; Red Magic’s international announcement gives the global standard model’s starting price.
The Bumblebee edition was announced and sold in China; an official U.S., Canadian or broader global retail release is not confirmed in the launch materials. Red Magic’s international announcement covered regular 7S Pro models, not the Bumblebee collector package. That does not mean an import could not be found through a reseller, but an imported listing is not the same as official regional availability. Red Magic’s international press page provides a regional reference for its announcements.

What to check before buying an imported or used unit
Because the phone launched in 2022 as a China-market collector’s package, treat a current listing as a specific used or imported device—not as a new global model at its historical launch price. Ask the seller for the exact model number and check supported LTE and 5G bands against your carrier before paying.
- Firmware and services: Confirm whether the handset runs Chinese or global software, which languages and Google services it supports, and what happens to the Bumblebee theme if firmware has been changed.
- Warranty and returns: Get the warranty region, service route and return terms in writing; do not assume a local warranty applies to a China-market unit.
- Box completeness: Ask for photos and an itemized list. A used listing may lack the cooling clip, themed case, charger, cable, badge, SIM tool or original collector packaging.
- Condition and compatibility: Check battery condition, whether the phone is refurbished, and whether the charger plug needs an adapter. Verify that the listed accessories are for the 7S Pro.
- Price: Do not use 6,499 yuan as a current-market benchmark. Import costs, taxes, shipping and collector demand can affect asking prices, and current resale values are not established by the launch figures.
For a collector, completeness and condition may matter as much as the phone itself. For someone seeking gaming performance, compare the 7S Pro with current devices rather than treating its 2022 processor as a current flagship.
