The Hecate GX05 is a specialist gaming earbud system, and its USB-C 2.4GHz dongle is the reason to consider it: Edifier rates latency as low as 15ms, and an independent review found the dongle connection the GX05’s strongest mode. The trade-offs are substantial: roughly four hours of claimed 2.4GHz battery life, a bulky metal case, and no listed active noise cancellation. It suits players who value responsive wireless game audio more than all-day battery or pocketable everyday earbuds.
What the Hecate GX05 is—and what the 15ms claim means
The GX05 combines true-wireless earbuds with two connection paths: a dedicated 2.4GHz USB-C dongle for gaming and Bluetooth 5.3 for phones and other everyday audio. Edifier says the dongle can deliver latency as low as 15ms and recommends it for the intended gaming experience. That is a manufacturer-rated best-case figure, not a promise of zero delay or a measurement of the complete path from game to ear; the device, game, operating system and audio processing also matter. Edifier’s GX05 specifications
Edifier lists simultaneous Bluetooth and 2.4GHz connections, so a phone and gaming device can remain connected at once. That is useful in principle, but the available independent coverage does not establish exactly how incoming calls or other phone audio interact with game audio on every device. The dongle includes USB-C and a USB converter, according to Edifier’s product information; a device still needs to accept the dongle as a USB audio device.
Gaming performance: the dongle is the point
The strongest independent assessment comes from TheSixthAxis, which tested the dongle with a MacBook, Nintendo Switch, smartphone and PC. It reported excellent audio quality and gaming performance through 2.4GHz, and found the GX05 worked best in that mode. The review does not publish controlled latency measurements, so it supports the general performance case rather than independently confirming the 15ms number. TheSixthAxis GX05 review

- On-the-Go Convenience: With an integrated handle and lightweight design (2.8 lbs), our lap desk is portable for travel or moving around the house, offering flexibility in any space.
- Competitive games: Prefer the dongle, where timing consistency matters. Do not treat Bluetooth game mode or the 15ms headline as a substitute for checking performance on your own platform.
- Casual mobile play: Bluetooth may be adequate if delay is not critical. A phone that supports LHDC may also use that codec; otherwise the GX05 may connect using SBC.
- Console and portable play: Check the specific system’s USB audio support and port arrangement. Some setups may need the included USB converter, another suitable adapter, or a different port; a USB-C connector alone does not guarantee compatibility.
- Video and music: Bluetooth codec support depends on the source device. The dongle is the more convincing option when sound quality or game responsiveness matters more than using a phone’s standard Bluetooth path.
For an individual setup, the practical test is whether the system recognizes the GX05 as an audio output and, if needed, an input device, then whether gameplay and voice chat remain stable. Edifier describes the dongle as plug-and-play on many gaming devices, not as a guarantee for every console or USB-C port.
Sound quality: best over 2.4GHz, codec-dependent over Bluetooth
Edifier specifies 10mm dynamic drivers, SBC and LHDC 5.0 Bluetooth codecs, and a 20Hz–40kHz frequency response. The company also cites Hi-Res Wireless certification and LHDC capability. Those specifications describe supported formats and a stated range; they do not by themselves establish neutral tuning or superior positional audio. LHDC playback also requires a compatible source device.

TheSixthAxis found Bluetooth SBC sound acceptable but unremarkable, while describing dongle-connected sound as clear and detailed. It reported useful game detail for movement and action cues as well as strong music playback over the dongle. These are listening impressions, not lab measurements. The review also stressed the importance of a suitable ear-tip fit: a poor seal can thin bass and reduce passive isolation, changing how game cues come across.
Fit, case and everyday carry
Hecate describes a tilt-in ergonomic design with soft rubber supports. The earbuds weigh about 4.9g each according to the brand’s product page, but fit remains ear-dependent: a support wing that steadies one person’s earbud may press uncomfortably on another’s. Try every supplied tip size and adjust the insertion angle before judging comfort or sound; assess comfort over a longer session rather than just a quick fit check. Hecate GX05 product information

The zinc-alloy case has a rotating lid, a mechanical, cyberpunk-inspired look and a substantial feel. Hecate lists the case at approximately 96.3g and the dongle at 1.5g; Edifier’s global page gives total net weight as 107.6g. These are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements. TheSixthAxis also found the case bulky and heavy. That makes the case a distinctive part of the design, but a less convenient carry than the small plastic cases common to everyday earbuds.
RGB lighting adds to the gaming aesthetic. Hecate lists gaming and music sound effects, user controls and power display among the product features. The available official material does not establish GX05 support for an app, firmware updates or a customizable EQ, so buyers should not assume it offers the same software features as other Hecate models.

Microphone: adequate evidence for team chat, not more
The GX05 has dual microphones with environmental noise cancellation (ENC) for outgoing voice. TheSixthAxis described the microphones as adequate for clear, concise team communication. That supports a cautious recommendation for ordinary team chat, not a claim of broadcast-quality voice. The available evidence does not compare recordings across Bluetooth and 2.4GHz or establish how well the microphones handle keyboard, fan or household noise.
Battery life and charging are the clearest compromises
Edifier gives approximate per-charge figures of four hours in 2.4GHz mode and 4.5 hours in Bluetooth mode, with lighting conditions affecting runtime. The 2.4GHz number is the relevant one if you are buying the GX05 primarily for gaming; the Bluetooth figure should not be treated as the gaming-mode claim. The earbuds charge over USB-C, and Hecate promotes QC2.0 fast charging, though the available product information does not establish a recharge time that would make frequent charging irrelevant. A case extends use between access to a charger, but does not change the short per-charge session. High volume, RGB use, battery age and whether the earbuds reach a full charge can all affect actual runtime; the manufacturer’s figures are approximate rather than guaranteed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.ENC is not ANC; isolation depends on fit
ENC processes microphone input for outgoing calls and chat. It is not the same as active noise cancellation (ANC), which reduces environmental sound reaching the listener. The GX05’s listed specifications do not include earbud ANC. Hecate’s gaming-earbud collection distinguishes the GX05’s ENC from features such as hybrid ANC and ambient mode listed for the GX07. Hecate gaming-earbud collection
For the listener, isolation is passive and depends on the tips forming a good seal. The Hecate product page lists IP54, while the extracted Edifier global specification block does not show that rating, so treat IP54 as a Hecate-page specification rather than a universally confirmed claim. IP54 is not a swimming or shower rating, and charging equipment should be kept dry.
Setup and practical troubleshooting
Pair over Bluetooth
- Put the earbuds into pairing mode as described in the manual.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the device and select HECATE GX05. That is the pairing name shown in the manual. GX05 manual
- Confirm that audio is routed to the earbuds. If the device does not support LHDC, it may use SBC instead.
Connect through the 2.4GHz dongle
- Connect the USB-C dongle to the gaming device; use the included converter if the device requires a standard USB-A connection.
- Turn on or remove the earbuds from the case and allow them to connect.
- If audio does not switch automatically, select the GX05 as the output and, where available, the microphone input.
- Use this connection when low latency is the priority.
If connection or audio routing fails
- If audio keeps going to the phone, disconnect Bluetooth temporarily and manually select the GX05 on the gaming device.
- If the dongle is not recognized, reseat it, check the adapter connection, try another suitable USB port and confirm the device supports USB audio.
- If Bluetooth pairing is stuck, forget the GX05 on the source device and pair it again.
- Charge the earbuds and case before troubleshooting. For a reset procedure, consult the manual or official support rather than trying an unverified button sequence.

Who should buy the GX05?
- Good fit: Players who want a true-wireless earbud system with a dedicated 2.4GHz gaming connection, value detailed dongle audio and can recharge after a roughly four-hour gaming session.
- Look elsewhere: Commuters or players in noisy rooms who want listener-side ANC; people who need all-day runtime or a compact case; buyers who rely on high-quality Bluetooth music but lack LHDC support; or anyone seeking established app, EQ and firmware tools or a streaming-grade microphone.
