Short answer: You can earn Pokémon GO Egg distance while the game is closed if Adventure Sync records genuine activity through Apple Health. You cannot hatch Eggs while completely stationary through an official feature. An iOS location changer attempts to falsify your position; Niantic prohibits that and may warn, suspend, or terminate accounts for it.
How Egg hatching works
An Egg must be placed in an Incubator before it accumulates distance. Each Egg displays the distance required to hatch it, and that distance comes from recorded movement—not from leaving an Egg in storage. Pokémon GO provides one Incubator with unlimited uses; additional Incubators from the in-game Shop let you incubate more Eggs at once, but do not remove the distance requirement. Niantic’s Egg and Incubator instructions describe the mechanic.
Put an Egg in an Incubator
- From the Map View, tap Main Menu.
- Tap Pokémon, then Eggs at the top.
- Select an Egg and tap Incubate.
- Choose an Incubator. The Egg’s required distance is displayed in the game.
If Adventure Sync is disabled, Niantic says Pokémon GO must remain open while you walk for distance to count toward hatching.
Use Adventure Sync to count real activity with Pokémon GO closed
Adventure Sync is the legitimate iPhone option for crediting eligible activity when Pokémon GO is not open. It can use Apple Health activity data for Egg progress and Buddy Candy, with the required permissions enabled. It is not a no-movement trick: your phone still needs to record genuine activity. Niantic’s current support page says Adventure Sync is available to Trainers at Level 5 or above and requires location permissions as well as Apple Health access on iOS. Check Niantic’s Adventure Sync instructions if labels or prompts differ on your device.

Turn it on
- Open Pokémon GO.
- Tap Main Menu, then Settings.
- Tap General, then Adventure Sync.
- Enable Adventure Sync and grant Pokémon GO access to Apple Health when prompted.
- Keep the game’s location permissions enabled.
Apple’s permission screens can change between iOS releases, so the wording on your phone may not exactly match the prompt above. Niantic says background activity tracking uses fitness and location data with the player’s permission; its privacy information explains its handling of that data.
Legitimate low-impact options
- Carry your iPhone during ordinary daily movement so eligible activity can be recorded.
- Indoor walking or treadmill activity may count if the phone and Apple Health record it appropriately; results can vary.
- Use Adventure Sync if you prefer not to keep Pokémon GO open during genuine activity.
- If walking is difficult or unsafe, do not feel pressured to exercise for the game. You can leave Eggs for later or ask Niantic support about account or app issues.
Extra Incubators can hatch multiple Eggs at the same time, but they do not generate distance. Egg contents and seasonal bonuses can change independently of the distance mechanic.

What an iOS location changer does—and what it cannot promise
A location changer attempts to make an iPhone report a simulated GPS position. Products in this category may use a desktop connection, an app, a Bluetooth accessory, or another vendor-specific setup. Those approaches and their supported iOS versions can change. They are not Pokémon GO settings, and a vendor’s claims of being “safe,” “undetectable,” or “risk-free” are not Niantic approval.
Using a simulated position to make Pokémon GO register movement is GPS spoofing. A location changer cannot guarantee that the game will accept the movement, credit every kilometer, continue working after an app or iOS update, avoid an error, or avoid account action. Adventure Sync is based on eligible activity data, not a seller’s promise that a GPS override will produce Egg distance.

Niantic prohibits GPS spoofing
Niantic’s Player Guidelines prohibit using tools or techniques to alter or falsify your location. Its Terms of Service also prohibit falsifying device location and describe detection of cheating-related software or exploits. Niantic says violations can lead to warnings, degraded gameplay, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination, and may result in loss of access to Niantic products. There is no reliable basis for promising that a particular location changer or movement pattern will avoid enforcement.
That makes location changers a poor choice if you value your Pokémon GO account. Promotional claims—including claims that a tool needs no jailbreak—do not change the game’s rules or establish that it is safe to use. Niantic also warns players to stay aware of hazards and not play while driving; see its Player Guidelines.

Why official Incubators are different from location changers
Incubators are an in-game purchase that changes how many Eggs you can incubate at once. A location changer is a third-party tool used to alter the device’s reported position. The former is an official game feature; using the latter to falsify gameplay location conflicts with Niantic’s rules. Incubator prices and bundles can vary by region, account, and event, so there is no single price established here.
Troubleshoot missing Egg distance
Adventure Sync is not recording activity
- Check that the Egg is incubating; an Egg still in storage gains no distance.
- Confirm Adventure Sync is enabled in Pokémon GO.
- Check that Pokémon GO has Apple Health access and that location permissions remain enabled. iOS menu labels can vary by release.
- Carry the iPhone during genuine activity so its activity systems can record it.
- Reopen Pokémon GO and allow time for the activity to synchronize. Do not assume an update will be immediate; Niantic notes some Adventure Sync-related activity displays can take up to an hour to sync.
- If the problem persists, use in-game support: Main Menu → Settings → Get Support, or visit Niantic Pokémon GO support.
The Egg has reached its distance but has not hatched on screen
The hatch animation may be delayed. Niantic notes that loading the game or having active Remote Raid invitations can delay the animation. Check the Egg screen again after the game has loaded.

A location changer triggered an error or stopped working
Stop using the third-party tool, return to the official Pokémon GO app, and restore normal device-location behavior. Avoid logging in through modified or unofficial software. For account or authentication problems, contact Niantic through the in-app support route; Niantic says it may not support players who attempt to cheat.
