First work out whether “lag” means delayed or teleporting players, local frame-rate stutter, or a stuck co-op session: each points to a different fix. Check Xbox service status, fully quit and relaunch the game, then test a fresh session; for connection symptoms, try Ethernet and have the other player host. These steps apply to Xbox multiplayer generally. FuturLab’s cited known-issues page is specifically for PowerWash Simulator 2, so its listed bugs should not be assumed to affect the original PowerWash Simulator.
Identify what kind of lag you have
“Lag” can describe network delay, slow rendering, or a multiplayer session that has stopped responding. The symptoms below are clues, not a definitive diagnosis.

Try the safe Xbox and game fixes first
Check Xbox services and run a connection test
- Check Xbox service status in a browser. If multiplayer services are having an outage, router changes will not resolve it.
- On the console, open Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings, then choose Test network connection. Note any service or multiplayer warnings as well as the result. Microsoft’s Xbox troubleshooting checklist documents this path: Xbox Series X|S troubleshooting checklist.
Fully quit PowerWash Simulator
- Press the Xbox button and highlight PowerWash Simulator.
- Press the Menu button and choose Quit.
- Relaunch the game and create a new multiplayer session.
Returning to Home does not necessarily close the game. A full quit is a useful test if the problem appeared after Quick Resume or waking the console; it does not delete your saves. Microsoft’s checklist recommends exiting and restarting a game for temporary freezes and related issues.
Power-cycle the Xbox
- Turn off the console.
- Hold the Xbox power button on the console for at least 10 seconds, until it shuts down fully.
- Turn it back on, launch the game, and retry multiplayer.
Microsoft says this full power cycle does not erase games or data. Use it before considering reinstalling or changing saved data; see the Xbox Series X|S troubleshooting checklist.

Install available updates
Check My games & apps > Manage > Updates for a game update, and check the console’s system update settings. Xbox dashboard wording can vary by version. Have both players update and restart their consoles before testing again; do not assume a particular patch number without a current notice from the game’s publisher.
Troubleshoot connection lag
Test with Ethernet
If possible, connect the Xbox directly to the router with an Ethernet cable and repeat the same short job. If the connection improves, Wi-Fi distance, interference, or congestion is a likely contributor. If nothing changes, that makes ordinary Wi-Fi instability less likely, but does not rule out other network or game issues. Microsoft recommends trying a wired connection when Wi-Fi is unstable in its Xbox connectivity guidance.
Restart the modem and router
- Shut down the Xbox.
- Unplug the modem and router from power. If they are separate devices, unplug both.
- Wait about one minute.
- Reconnect the modem and wait for it to reconnect to the internet; then reconnect the router if separate.
- Once the network is available, restart the Xbox and test the game.
This is a general Xbox connectivity step, not a PowerWash-specific cure. Microsoft’s connectivity guidance also notes that streaming and downloads on other devices can use bandwidth. Pause game downloads, video streams, cloud backups, and large uploads temporarily while testing.

Check NAT and whether the home has two routers
Open Settings > General > Network settings and note the NAT type and multiplayer connection status. A restrictive NAT or two routers between the Xbox and the internet can interfere with hosting or joining. For example, an ISP gateway and a separate router may both be performing routing, creating double NAT. NAT is most relevant when players cannot connect, host, or join; changing it is not a guaranteed way to reduce in-game latency or frame drops. Do not turn on DMZ or change port-forwarding rules as a routine lag fix. If players can join but experience stutter, first test connection stability, the host, and another job.
Swap the host
- Have Player A host a short job while Player B joins.
- End that test session, then have Player B host and Player A join.
- Compare whether the same player or the same host is associated with the problem.
If only one host produces the issue, investigate that host’s network, NAT, Wi-Fi, router, and console first. If the same player struggles regardless of host, check that player’s connection and local game state. If both arrangements fail similarly, the issue may be broader—such as a service, game, or shared network problem. This host swap is a diagnostic comparison, not a confirmed diagnosis of the game’s networking design.

When the problem looks like frame-rate stutter
If the picture stutters while the other player does not teleport and interactions are not arriving late, changing DNS or router settings is unlikely to address the cause. Test whether the slowdown appears in solo play and whether it is limited to one Xbox or one job.
- Fully quit and relaunch the game rather than resuming a suspended session.
- End co-op and start a fresh session, then load a different job.
- Compare solo play with multiplayer. Stutter in solo as well points away from a connection-only explanation.
- Note whether the same job or repeatable action triggers the slowdown. That detail can help identify a game-specific issue.
These comparisons narrow down the problem; they do not prove that a particular job or console has a known bug.

PowerWash Simulator and PowerWash Simulator 2 are separate games. FuturLab’s cited known-issues page is for PowerWash Simulator 2, not a blanket list of confirmed issues in the original game. It does not list a general Xbox Series X|S multiplayer-lag issue.

- Client stuck loading after the host returns to Home Base: The page documents this co-op loading issue and says to end the co-op session. During diagnosis, avoid having the host return to Home Base while the other player is still loading; if it happens, end the session and rejoin.
- Shop crash: The page gives Settings > General > Clear Live Service Cache for a specific shop-crash problem. It is not documented there as a general multiplayer-lag fix.
Check the page for its current wording and scope before applying any game-specific workaround; known-issue entries can change.

Port forwarding and router settings
Port forwarding may help with a connection or hosting failure, but it is not a general way to improve connection quality once a session is working. Microsoft’s general Xbox connectivity guidance describes it in connection troubleshooting, not as a latency cure. Consult your router maker or ISP before changing router rules, and do not enable DMZ casually.
Reinstall only after isolating the problem
Consider reinstalling only after checking service status, updates, a fresh session, another job, and the connection tests above. It may help if local game files are damaged, but it will not fix ISP packet loss, a service outage, double NAT, or a game-wide multiplayer issue.

Do not delete saved data as a lag fix
Deleting local saved data is not a first-line multiplayer or network troubleshooting step. Microsoft’s basic Xbox game troubleshooting guidance treats local-save deletion and cloud resynchronization as an advanced step for possible profile or save corruption. If you suspect a save problem, confirm recent progress has synchronized and consider testing another profile first. Do not choose Delete everywhere unless you intentionally want to remove cloud data; save deletion will not repair network latency.
When to contact FuturLab
Contact FuturLab if the issue is repeatable across fresh sessions and jobs, persists on a stable connection or another network, or appears tied to a specific job or action. A report is more useful when it includes:
- Whether the game is PowerWash Simulator or PowerWash Simulator 2
- Xbox model (Series X or Series S), game version, and console OS version
- Whether you were hosting or joining, and whether cross-play was involved
- Job name, approximate date and time, and region
- NAT type and whether the console was on Wi-Fi or Ethernet
- Whether you tried another host, another job, or another network
- A video capture, if available; provide your FuturLab Player ID if support requests it
