Verdict: In 2022, the POCO X4 GT was one of the strongest budget choices for gaming performance, thanks to its Dimensity 8100 chip, fast storage, 144Hz LCD, large battery and 67W charging. It was not the best all-round phone: its cameras and LCD were merely adequate, and it lacked the specialist controls and active cooling of a dedicated gaming handset. In 2026, consider one only if a verified, healthy used unit costs well below newer alternatives.
What the POCO X4 GT was—and who it suited
Launched in 2022, the X4 GT was a performance-focused upper-budget phone, not a purpose-built gaming device. Its central appeal was unusually strong processing power for its price class, paired with practical gaming extras such as stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a high-refresh-rate screen. POCO’s official product page lists the Dimensity 8100, LPDDR5 memory, UFS 3.1 storage, 144Hz display, 5,080mAh battery and 67W charging.
That made it a credible 2022 gaming recommendation, especially for buyers who cared more about frame-rate potential and battery life than photography or premium screen quality. It was not unambiguously the best for everyone: the verdict depends on a buyer’s region, launch price and priorities. Tech Advisor and Android Central likewise treated it as particularly appealing to performance-focused buyers rather than as a camera-first all-rounder (Tech Advisor; Android Central).
The X4 GT belongs to the same broader regional and hardware family as the Redmi Note 11T Pro, but that relationship does not mean identical software, network-band support or warranty coverage. Check the exact regional model before buying.

Gaming performance: fast hardware, not a 144fps guarantee
Why the Dimensity 8100 stood out
The Dimensity 8100 uses four Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked up to 2.85GHz and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores up to 2.0GHz, alongside an Arm Mali-G610 GPU. The chip is built on TSMC’s 5nm process. In the X4 GT, it is paired with LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage and LiquidCool Technology 2.0, a combination that made the phone unusually capable for its 2022 price tier. The detailed hardware is listed in POCO’s regional specifications.
It was not equivalent to a 2022 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship in every workload. Peak GPU performance, image processing, modem behavior and premium features still separated flagship phones from this more affordable performance option. A review by MMORPG.com reported the X4 GT ahead of the POCO F4 GT in multicore testing but behind it in single-core performance; that is one publication’s benchmark result, not a universal ranking across tests or software versions (MMORPG.com’s review).
The X4 GT was not a flagship killer in every respect, but its Dimensity 8100 made it one of the most compelling performance bargains of its generation.
What to expect in games
The hardware gives the phone strong potential for popular competitive and casual games, while more demanding titles place greater pressure on graphics settings, heat and sustained performance. The display can refresh at up to 144Hz and POCO lists 270Hz touch sampling under specified refresh-rate conditions. Neither specification guarantees that a particular game will render at 144 frames per second: the game itself sets frame-rate options and caps, and actual performance also depends on graphics settings, firmware and temperature.

Liquid cooling is not an active fan. Long, demanding sessions can warm the phone and may reduce sustained performance; a short benchmark or a game’s initial minutes cannot establish how every title behaves over time. The X4 GT also lacks dedicated shoulder triggers and an integrated gaming fan, so its gaming credentials come primarily from its processor, screen and everyday hardware rather than specialist controls.
Stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos support, the headphone jack and an X-axis linear motor round out the experience. The headphone jack is especially useful for wired gaming headsets without relying on a wireless connection.
Display: quick and responsive, but LCD rather than OLED
The phone has a 6.6-inch-class, 2460 × 1080 LCD with an adaptive refresh rate up to 144Hz, HDR10 support, advertised Dolby Vision support and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. POCO describes seven-stage adaptive refresh behavior. These features make it well suited to responsive scrolling and games that support higher refresh rates, but they do not change the panel’s basic limitations.

- Strengths: High refresh potential, responsive touch, and an LCD panel that avoids OLED-style PWM concerns for some users.
- Trade-offs: Blacks and contrast cannot match OLED, and there is no OLED-style always-on display. Viewing angles and perceived punch may also fall short of OLED alternatives.
- HDR caveat: Advertised HDR formats do not guarantee that every app, streaming service or title will deliver content in those formats.
Brightness is commonly specified at about 500 nits typical, while higher high-brightness-mode figures appear in specification material. Treat peak and typical readings as different measurements; sunlight visibility depends on conditions and the phone’s brightness behavior, not the refresh-rate headline alone.
Battery and 67W charging
POCO specifies a 5,080mAh typical battery and advertises a full charge in approximately 46 minutes using its 67W charging setup. That 46-minute figure is the manufacturer’s claim, not a guaranteed result for every charger, temperature or battery condition. Xiaomi says compatible PD chargers can reach up to 33W under the stated adapter and cable conditions; the included charger supports the advertised 67W mode. See the official FAQ for charging and compatibility details.
A large battery and fast top-ups were meaningful advantages for gaming and everyday use. Actual endurance varies with display refresh, game workload, signal strength and settings. Playing while charging can add heat, which is undesirable during long, demanding sessions. On a used phone, battery age matters more than its original capacity: expect no particular runtime or charging speed without checking the device’s condition.
Cameras: usable, but not a reason to choose it
The rear cameras are a 64MP main, 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro; the front camera is 16MP. The main camera has electronic stabilization but no optical image stabilization, according to the phone’s specifications and support material (specifications; FAQ).
The main camera can produce acceptable results in good light, but megapixel count does not make it a camera-phone standout. Low-light shots, ultrawide images and video are less compelling than the performance story, and the 2MP macro camera adds little practical value. Buyers who prioritize photography should look at another phone, even if it has a slower processor. The user documentation lists 4K video support, but availability and camera-app behavior should be confirmed for the particular regional firmware.

Software and remaining support
The X4 GT shipped with Android 12 and MIUI 13 for POCO. Its custom interface includes POCO-specific features such as Game Turbo, but preinstalled apps and notifications can make the experience less clean than Google’s or Motorola’s software. The accessible official specifications confirm the launch software; they do not establish the final officially supported version or remaining security-update period for every region. Check current support for the exact model and market before relying on it as a long-term phone.
Network and physical features
The cited regional specifications list dual nano-SIM support; 5G bands n1, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n77 and n78; Wi-Fi 6; Bluetooth 5.3; GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou; an IR blaster; USB-C; and a 3.5mm headphone jack. NFC availability varies by market. These are regional specifications, not a promise that every X4 GT variant has every feature.

At approximately 163.6 × 74.3 × 8.9mm and 200g, the phone is a substantial device with flat sides and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. Its IP53 rating means limited dust protection and resistance to splashes under test conditions—not waterproofing. Do not immerse it, take it into a shower or pool, or charge it while wet. The build and IP rating are documented in Xiaomi’s official FAQ.

As of August 18, 2026, the X4 GT is an older-generation phone, not a current best-buy by default. There is no dependable universal current price: used condition, storage, region, warranty and import costs vary. Compare the actual asking price with newer phones available in your country rather than comparing a used device with its 2022 launch price.

- Run a demanding game for 20–30 minutes and watch for unusually fast battery drain, touch faults or performance deterioration as the phone warms.
- Test charging and confirm the phone and charger appear to enter turbo mode; check the USB-C port for looseness and verify the charger’s authenticity where possible.
- Inspect the LCD for dead pixels, ghost touches, uneven backlighting and touch dead zones. OLED burn-in is not the relevant concern for this panel.
- Test speaker clarity, fingerprint-reader reliability, camera focus and stabilization.
- Confirm the IMEI, network lock, exact regional model, bootloader state and whether the phone has official or seller-installed firmware. Check that Google services work normally.
- Look for signs of water exposure or corrosion, and buy with a return policy or seller protection.
Import and carrier checks
At least one major review noted that the X4 GT was not officially sold in the United States or United Kingdom at the time of review, so imported units can mean limited or absent local warranty support (Tech Advisor). For a U.S. purchase, do not assume compatibility with every carrier: verify the exact model’s bands, VoLTE certification and carrier support. Also check NFC availability, charger plug, firmware region, OTA update behavior, taxes and return-shipping costs. Seller-installed ROMs can complicate updates and support.
How it compares with alternatives
| Phone | Gaming and display | Battery and cameras | Software age and availability | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| POCO X4 GT | Dimensity 8100, 144Hz LCD; strong 2022 value, without gaming triggers or an active fan. | 5,080mAh, advertised 67W charging; ordinary camera system. | 2022 generation; current support varies by region, and used/import stock needs careful checking. | Lowest-cost performance if the individual unit is sound and markedly cheaper. |
| POCO X4 Pro 5G | More display-oriented; weaker gaming performance than the X4 GT. | More camera/display-oriented positioning; not a direct performance rival. | Also a 2022-era comparison. | Do not choose it over the X4 GT solely because the names are similar. See Tech Advisor’s comparison context. |
| POCO F6 | Newer Qualcomm platform, LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0, offering a more modern performance foundation. | Still a POCO-style proposition, so compare camera priorities and software preferences. | Newer than the X4 GT; price and availability depend on country. | A more sensible longer-term performance buy if the price gap is reasonable. Official product page. |
| POCO X7 Pro | Newer performance-first generation with more current gaming hardware. | Check local configuration and camera needs against the actual offer. | More current product support; availability and pricing vary by country. | For buyers who want a newer POCO performance phone. Official product page. |
| REDMAGIC 10 Pro | Dedicated gaming-phone positioning and gaming-oriented design and software. | Less suited to buyers who prioritize camera quality or a conventional everyday-phone design. | Verify current configuration, warranty and shipping on the official U.S. product page. | For serious gaming priorities rather than the cheapest all-round phone. Official buying page. |
The original POCO F4 GT is another 2022 performance comparison: it was a more specialist gaming proposition, while the X4 GT’s case rested on value and its Dimensity 8100. The cited independent benchmark comparison found the X4 GT ahead in multicore but behind in single-core testing; neither result alone decides which is better for a particular game.
Final verdict: best budget gaming phone of 2022?
In the right market and at the right 2022 price, the POCO X4 GT deserved to be considered among the best budget gaming phones of its generation. Its Dimensity 8100, fast memory and storage, large battery, quick charging and high-refresh display formed a convincing performance package. “Best” is too broad without a region and price, and the phone’s LCD, modest cameras and software compromises kept it from being the best all-round choice.
In 2026, buy it only if gaming performance matters more than cameras, the LCD suits you, the battery and firmware check out, carrier compatibility is confirmed, and the price is substantially below newer options. If warranty, remaining software support or long-term ownership matters more, compare current local offers for the POCO F6, POCO X7 Pro or REDMAGIC 10 Pro before settling for aging stock.
