Samsung’s Odyssey OLED G9 Hit $1,100 at Best Buy—but That Deal Was From April 2024

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 G95SC hit a reported $1,100 at Best Buy in April 2024. Here’s what that deal covered, how the monitor differs from other G9 models, and the trade-offs to weigh.

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 G95SC was reported at $1,100 at Best Buy on April 16, 2024, down from a cited regular price of about $1,800. That historical promotion is not evidence of a live $1,100 offer today: Samsung’s U.S. product page lists the monitor at $1,799.99 but indicates it is unavailable or notification-only. Check a retailer’s current price and stock before buying.

What the $1,100 deal included—and what is unknown

Android Headlines reported that Best Buy cut the G95SC to $1,100 on April 16, 2024, against an approximately $1,800 regular price. That is a nominal $700 reduction, or about 38.9% of the cited regular price. The report also said the monitor had reached $1,100 earlier that March and that discounts were typically at least $100 less generous; those are the publisher’s historical observations, not a verified complete price history. Read the original deal report.

The report does not establish the promotion’s end date, inventory, checkout restrictions, shipping or pickup costs, or whether every listing was for a new unit. It also does not document a membership or coupon requirement. Treat $1,100 as the reported advertised price, not a guaranteed final price or proof of an all-time low.

Which Odyssey G9 is this?

The deal concerns the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 G95SC, model LS49CG954SNXZA. That model number matters: Samsung’s similarly named G95C is a VA-panel monitor, not this OLED model, and G9-branded listings can refer to other configurations.

Samsung also lists 99% DCI color coverage under its stated measurement and typical brightness of 250 cd/m². See Samsung’s G95SC specifications. The monitor’s curve is 1,800R—not 1,000R, a figure sometimes attached to other Odyssey G9 models.

What this ultrawide is like to use

One continuous 32:9 screen

At 5,120 × 1,440, the G95SC offers the horizontal workspace of two QHD displays side by side, without a center bezel. That can suit a wide game view or several open windows, but it also takes up substantial desk width and may demand more head movement than a conventional screen. The 1,800R curve is less aggressive than 1,000R designs.

Fast OLED gaming, with a demanding resolution

OLED pixels can switch quickly and display deep blacks, while 240Hz and adaptive sync are useful when a PC can deliver high frame rates. But 240Hz is a maximum, not a promise: rendering at 5,120 × 1,440 is demanding, and actual performance depends on the GPU, game, settings, and connection. An older or midrange graphics card may require reduced settings or a lower refresh target.

Games that support 32:9 can make striking use of the extra width, particularly racing, simulation, strategy, and cinematic titles. Others may show black bars, stretch or crop interface elements, limit the format in cutscenes, or not support it correctly. Check compatibility for the games you play, especially competitive titles where ultrawide support can be restricted.

Brightness, HDR, and smart features

True Black 400 describes the G95SC’s HDR certification; it should not be read as a promise of sustained brightness comparable to a high-end Mini-LED screen. Samsung lists typical brightness of 250 cd/m², so buyers in bright rooms should weigh that against OLED’s contrast and black levels.

Samsung Gaming Hub provides access to supported cloud-gaming services, subject to service availability, network quality, and any required subscriptions. It does not mean every game or service is included. The monitor’s 32:9, 5,120 × 1,440 and 240Hz capabilities are principally a PC proposition; consoles are constrained by their own output resolutions and refresh-rate support.

Trade-offs to consider before buying

OLED image retention

Long periods with static desktop elements—such as taskbars, browser bars, or fixed application panels—can increase the risk of image retention. Temporary retention may fade; permanent burn-in is lasting. Samsung’s OLED protection features do not eliminate that risk, and warranty coverage for burn-in can vary by region, model, seller, and purchase date. Read the warranty terms that apply to the specific unit before relying on coverage.

Space and setup

Measure desk width and depth, viewing distance, and any monitor-arm or mounting clearance before ordering. The 49-inch panel needs a sturdy support, and the stand or arm must fit the workspace. A close seating position or preference for a standard 16:9 screen may make this format uncomfortable.

G95SC OLED versus G95C VA

The Samsung Odyssey G9 G95C keeps the 49-inch, 32:9 and 240Hz format but uses a VA panel. It is a more relevant comparison for buyers who want the ultrawide size but do not need OLED. Samsung’s listed G95C specification is 1ms GtG and DisplayHDR 1000, versus the G95SC’s 0.03ms GtG and DisplayHDR True Black 400. The different HDR labels describe different display characteristics and should not be treated as a simple one-number ranking.

Response-time specification 0.03ms GtG 1ms GtG

OLED retention concern Relevant Not an OLED panel

Samsung’s captured U.S. G95C page listed $1,299.99 and showed an $799.99 instant-credit price in a promotion state; the latter is conditional, not an ordinary cash price, and should be verified at checkout. Check the G95C product page. Samsung’s U.S. G95SC page listed $1,799.99 but showed unavailable or notification-only status, so that listing is not a confirmed purchase offer.

Who should consider the G95SC?

  • Good fit: PC gamers with a capable GPU who want a supported 32:9 experience, OLED contrast, high refresh, and enough desk space.
  • Worth weighing carefully: People replacing two QHD monitors, if their work and games benefit from one continuous wide display and they are comfortable with OLED care.
  • Likely poor fit: Buyers who spend most of the day in static productivity apps, need sustained high brightness in a sunlit room, mainly play on console, or want a low-risk office display.
  • Consider the G95C instead: Buyers prioritizing the 49-inch format and brightness while preferring a VA panel over OLED.

What to verify before checkout

  1. Confirm the listing is for G95SC, model LS49CG954SNXZA, rather than the VA-based G95C or another G9 variant.
  2. Check that the unit is new, not open-box or refurbished, and that the checkout price matches the advertised condition.
  3. Review the seller’s return window, restocking terms, and warranty language, including any OLED burn-in coverage.
  4. Confirm whether the price is before tax and whether a credit-card offer, coupon, or other condition is required.
  5. Check the included stand, power cable, and video cables against the listing.
  6. Make sure your PC’s GPU and outputs can support your intended resolution and refresh rate; measure your desk and mounting area.
  7. Confirm delivery or pickup availability for your location and inspect the final checkout total before placing the order.
