If Windows says “Xbox Game Bar is currently not available in your account” and shows 0x803F8001, check your Microsoft Store account first, then work through updates, app repair, Store cache, and reinstall steps. The code alone does not identify one cause: account or availability validation, a Store or app-registration problem, and Xbox components such as Gaming Services can produce related symptoms. A Microsoft Q&A post documents this exact Game Bar message and code, but it is not a formal definition of the error: Microsoft Q&A.
Start with the low-risk fixes below. Use the Gaming Services PowerShell cleanup only as a last resort because it removes machine-wide service registrations. These steps are for Windows 10; labels can differ between Windows 10 builds and Microsoft Store versions.
Identify which component is failing
This table is a practical way to narrow the problem, not an official Microsoft diagnostic matrix. Note whether the error appears when you press Win + G, open the Xbox app, or start one particular game.
| What you see | Where to investigate first |
|---|---|
| Win + G fails, but Microsoft Store works | Xbox Game Bar package or registration |
| Store opens, but Game Bar says it is unavailable | Store account, app registration, or Store cache |
| Xbox app asks you to install Gaming Services | Gaming Services |
| Several Microsoft Store apps fail | Microsoft Store or Windows app infrastructure |
| Only one Game Pass title fails | That game’s installation or entitlement, or its Xbox and Gaming Services dependencies |
| The error began after a Windows update | App registration or service compatibility |
If Game Bar opens on the desktop but not inside one game, avoid repeatedly reinstalling Game Bar; the game’s integration or dependencies may be the issue.

Try the low-risk fixes first
1. Restart and confirm the account
- Restart Windows.
- Open Microsoft Store and select the account icon. Sign out if necessary, then sign in with the Microsoft account that owns or uses the relevant Xbox content.
- Open the Xbox app, if you use it, and sign in with the same account.
Matching accounts matters when Store content or a game entitlement is involved. A repair or reset cannot grant access to content the signed-in account does not own or cannot use.
2. Install Windows updates
- Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates, install available updates, and restart if prompted.
Microsoft includes Windows updating in its Store-app troubleshooting guidance: Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store.
3. Update Microsoft Store apps
- Open Microsoft Store.
- On the Windows 10 layout, select the three-dot See more menu, then Downloads and updates. Select Get updates.
- Install available updates for Xbox Game Bar, Xbox, and Gaming Services, as well as Microsoft Store if an update is offered.
Store layouts change: some versions put updates under Library > Get updates. Microsoft documents both the Windows 10 and newer Store labels in its Store-app troubleshooting steps.

Repair Game Bar, then reset it if needed
Repair first
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select Xbox Game Bar > Advanced options. On some builds, select the app’s entry or its menu first to reveal Advanced options.
- Select Repair, restart Windows, and test with Win + G.
Repair is the less disruptive option. Microsoft describes the general Advanced options repair/reset flow in its Windows app troubleshooting guidance.

- Return to Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Xbox Game Bar > Advanced options.
- Select Reset and confirm, then restart and test Win + G.
Reset can remove Game Bar’s local data and preferences. It is not a step for deleting installed games, but expect to lose app-specific settings.
Fix Microsoft Store problems
Repair or reset Microsoft Store
- Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select Microsoft Store > Advanced options.
- Select Repair. If the issue remains, return and select Reset, then restart Windows.
Repair or reset is part of Microsoft’s recommended recovery path for malfunctioning Store apps: Microsoft Store app troubleshooting.

Clear the Store cache with wsreset.exe
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
wsreset.exeand select OK. - Wait for the blank command window to close. Microsoft says it can remain open for roughly ten seconds; Store should then open automatically.
The blank window is expected. See Microsoft’s instructions for finding or installing Store apps.
Reinstall Game Bar from Microsoft Store
- Open Microsoft Store and search for Xbox Game Bar, or check the Store’s Library.
- Open the listing and select Install, Get, or the reinstall option shown.
- Restart Windows after installation and test with Win + G.
If the listing is missing, verify the Store account and try wsreset.exe before concluding the app is unavailable. Store listings can vary by country or region, and family settings can hide apps; Microsoft outlines these possibilities in its Store availability guidance. If Microsoft Store itself is missing, use Microsoft’s separate Microsoft Store app troubleshooting page.

Use an Xbox app repair option if it is offered
If your Xbox app includes a Gaming Services repair option in its support or settings area, run it and restart Windows before attempting manual removal. Availability and labels are not established as universal across Windows 10 builds, so do not assume every installation has this option.

Advanced last resort: remove and reinstall Gaming Services
Use this only when the Xbox app or games point to Gaming Services and the ordinary repair, reset, cache, and reinstall steps have failed. Microsoft documents this workaround for Windows 10 Gaming Services errors 0x80073D26 and 0x8007139F, not as a universal fix for every 0x803F8001 case: Microsoft KB5004327.
Warning: These commands remove Gaming Services AppX packages and delete machine-wide service registry entries. Administrator rights are required. Create a restore point or other recovery option first, copy the commands exactly, and do not delete unrelated registry keys. If PowerShell reports an access, policy, or execution error, stop rather than improvising.
- Open Notepad and paste the following commands:
Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | Remove-AppxPackage -allusers
Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:SystemCurrentControlSetServicesGamingServices" -Recurse
Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:SystemCurrentControlSetServicesGamingServicesNet" -Recurse
- Save the file as
RepairGamingServices.ps1. Set Save as type to All Files so it does not becomeRepairGamingServices.ps1.txt. - Run the script as administrator, either by right-clicking and choosing Run with PowerShell or from an elevated PowerShell window.
- Restart the PC. Open the Xbox app and select Install if it says Gaming Services is required.
- Restart again if prompted, then test the Xbox app, Game Bar, or affected game.
These steps follow Microsoft’s documented Gaming Services workaround linked above. Do not repeat the registry operations if they fail; contact Microsoft Support instead.
If only one game still fails
- Test whether Win + G opens on the desktop.
- Check whether the Xbox app launches and Microsoft Store can update apps.
- Confirm the signed-in account has access to the game or subscription content.
- If Game Bar works elsewhere, investigate that title’s installation, Xbox integration, or Gaming Services dependency rather than reinstalling Game Bar repeatedly.
If several Store apps fail, widen the diagnosis to Microsoft Store or Windows app infrastructure. If the issue persists after the appropriate steps, record the exact error text, Windows 10 build, account used in Store and Xbox, and what you tried; then contact Microsoft or Xbox Support.
