Martin Klíma, co-founder of Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer Warhorse Studios, hopes Grand Theft Auto VI will sell well enough to give other publishers confidence to charge more for games. That is Klíma’s hope, not evidence that other companies will follow suit or that higher prices alone would solve the industry’s financial pressures.
What did the Warhorse co-founder say?
In an interview reported by PC Gamer on 1 October 2026, Klíma argued that raising the price per game is one way to bring in more revenue. “The last thing you can do is to increase the unit price. That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost.”
He also said Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two are the only companies “who can afford, or who can dare, to increase the price of games,” adding that he believes such an increase is overdue and necessary for the business to survive. These are Klíma’s views on industry economics, not a confirmed plan by Rockstar or a settled industry consensus.
Why does he think a price increase is needed?
PC Gamer presents Klíma’s argument against a backdrop of rising game-development expenses and limited room to expand audiences or extract more revenue from digital storefront sales. Its account also describes the pandemic-era demand surge as temporary and points to later layoffs and studio closures. That context helps explain his position, but it does not establish that a higher launch price would prevent job cuts or make any particular game profitable.

How much does GTA 6 cost, and when does it release?
As of 3 October 2026, Rockstar’s US store lists the standard edition at $79.99. That is a current US listing, not a universal price across regions and currencies, or a guide to what other publishers will charge. Rockstar says Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player game due on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Check the Rockstar Games Store listing and Rockstar’s announcement for current details.
Does the physical GTA 6 edition include a disc?
No. Rockstar describes the boxed version as a box containing a download code; it does not include a disc. “Physical” here refers to the packaged box, not a disc copy of the game.

Will other studios raise their game prices?
Klíma hopes GTA 6 will “blaze the trail,” but the available statements do not show that other publishers have committed to raising prices or that GTA 6’s launch price will trigger a wider change. A blockbuster’s price can demonstrate what its publisher believes the market will accept; it cannot, by itself, establish that customers will accept the same price for other games.
Consumer response may also complicate broad increases. Video Games Chronicle reported on 2 October 2026 that an unnamed “recent survey” found 62% of the most engaged video-game players no longer buy releases at full price and instead wait for discounts. The report does not identify the survey’s publisher, year, sample, geography or methodology, so the figure should not be treated as representative of all players.
