It was announced on September 19, 2024, and launched on November 21, 2024, so it is not a new 2026 launch. Sony limited the bundle to 12,300 units worldwide; PlayStation Direct’s U.S. listing currently marks it sold out.
What Sony actually released
The official name was PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle. It was one part of Sony’s broader PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection, announced September 19, 2024, alongside a separate anniversary PS5 Digital Edition, controllers, a PlayStation Portal, and a charging station. The collection went on sale November 21, 2024. The original PlayStation launched on December 3, 1994. Sony’s announcement explains the collection and its design.

The PS5 Pro was a separate product from the anniversary PS5 Digital Edition. Images of the gray Digital Edition are sometimes mistaken for the Pro; the limited Pro bundle is the 2TB, higher-performance model and includes a larger set of accessories.
Why it looks like the original PlayStation
The anniversary console uses the original PlayStation’s gray color scheme, with a multicolor PlayStation logo and retro-inspired branding and markings. It is not physically shaped like a PS1: it is a PS5 Pro with nostalgic design details. The matching accessories extend the theme, including an original PlayStation-style controller cable connector housing and PlayStation Shapes cable ties. Sony also included a sticker, poster, and paperclip, and the console carries an individually etched edition number. Some markings refer to the original PlayStation’s December 3 launch date.

What comes in the bundle
PlayStation Direct’s product listing specifies these contents:
- Limited Edition PS5 Pro console with a 2TB SSD.
- Limited Edition DualSense Edge wireless controller and Limited Edition DualSense wireless controller.
- Limited Edition DualSense charging station.
- Limited Edition console cover for the disc drive and Limited Edition vertical stand.
- Horizontal stand feet, HDMI cable, USB cable, AC power cord, and printed materials.
- Original PlayStation-style controller cable connector housing and four PlayStation Shapes cable ties.
- PlayStation sticker, Limited Edition PlayStation poster, and PlayStation paperclip.
- Astro’s Playroom pre-installed.
The disc-drive cover is not a disc drive. The bundle is digital by default; the compatible disc drive was sold separately. See the official bundle listing for its specifications and box contents.
Does the anniversary edition perform differently?
No special performance upgrade was announced for the anniversary version. Its gaming capabilities are those of the standard PS5 Pro; the edition’s distinctions are its finish, markings, packaging, accessories, and limited quantity. Sony’s PS5 Pro platform features include an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, and Game Boost for supported PS4 games. Sony said the standard PS5 Pro has 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory than the original PS5, enabling rendering up to 45% faster in its stated comparison. These are platform claims, not a separate benchmark for the anniversary bundle. Sony’s PS5 Pro announcement gives the platform details; the standard model launched November 7, 2024, as recorded in Sony’s launch announcement.
The retro styling does not add a PS1 mode or make the console a dedicated original-PlayStation machine. Do not assume original PS1 discs will work: the anniversary bundle has no built-in disc drive, and its cover is not the drive. PS1 games offered through PlayStation’s Classics Catalog or in remastered form are a separate matter from original-disc compatibility.

How limited was the run?
Sony said 12,300 PS5 Pro bundles would be available worldwide. That is a global quantity, not a U.S. allocation, and the edition number is etched on each console. Sony tied the quantity to the original PlayStation launch date, December 3, 1994. The figure does not establish that every numbered console was publicly sold, nor does it guarantee future resale value or rule out future anniversary-themed products.
Can you still buy one?
As of August 18, 2026, PlayStation Direct’s U.S. product page marked the anniversary bundle sold out. That status describes Sony’s U.S. storefront, not every retailer or country; remaining stock or resale listings may exist elsewhere. Sony’s listing does not establish a current resale price, so treat seller asking prices as market offers rather than official pricing. Check the U.S. PlayStation Direct listing for its current status.
If considering a resale unit, verify what is actually included rather than relying on a headline photo. The two controllers, charging station, stand, poster, and small collector pieces can be missing, and condition, packaging, edition number, and authenticity affect what a particular listing is worth. A sold-out official listing does not authenticate third-party offers.
Is it the right PS5 Pro to pursue?
- For a collector: The numbered gray console and matching accessories are the point; prioritize a complete, authenticated bundle and inspect its condition.
- For a buyer focused on performance: Compare with the standard PS5 Pro. The anniversary finish does not improve game performance, and resale pricing is not an official measure of extra computing power.
- For someone with PS4 or PS5 discs: Factor in the separately purchased compatible disc drive. The included cover does not provide disc playback.
- For someone who mainly wants the gray anniversary look: The separate anniversary PS5 Digital Edition was another product in the collection, not the PS5 Pro. Its specifications and bundle contents differ.
Sony’s original U.S. launch MSRP for the standard PS5 Pro was $699.99, but that is a 2024 launch price, not a current price or a resale valuation for the anniversary bundle. Check the current U.S. PlayStation Direct console page for the standard model’s listing.
