What happened during the March 3 PSN outage?
Users reported difficulty connecting to PlayStation Network (PSN), with problems affecting more than one isolated game or console feature. Contemporary coverage described issues with online multiplayer, console connectivity or sign-in, streaming-related features, and possible PlayStation Store access. The reports support describing a broad disruption, but do not establish that every PSN service or every region went offline at once.
Symptoms could differ between users: separate PSN services may recover at different times, and a game’s own servers can remain unavailable even when PSN is working. A problem limited to one game, account, location, or internet provider is not by itself proof of a platform-wide outage. Radio Times’ March 3 report covered the reported service impact, while The CPU Guide’s contemporary coverage described user-reported symptoms.
How long was PSN down?
The disruption was described as lasting approximately an hour. That is a reported estimate, not a precisely measured worldwide outage: the available coverage does not give a universal start time or exact restoration time. Radio Times reported that PSN was operational when its March 3 article was updated at 11:26 a.m. local publication time, supporting the conclusion that service appeared to recover that morning.

Which services and error codes were reported?
Reported problems included multiplayer and other online features, sign-in or console connectivity, streaming-related features, and possible Store access. These were reported effects, not confirmation that each feature failed for every player.
The CPU Guide cited user reports of error codes WS-115762-2 and CE-117773-6. Those examples were not shown to be universal codes or definitive identifiers for this incident. Sony’s PS5 error-code reference describes CE-117773-6 as a general PS5 error; an error code alone does not establish whether a platform outage caused the problem.

Was the outage caused by a cyberattack?
The precise technical cause has not been established in the available reporting. The CPU Guide characterized the event as a technical issue, but the coverage does not provide a detailed Sony postmortem identifying a server fault, maintenance, an attack, or another specific cause. There is no substantiated basis here to say that hackers caused the disruption.
Is PSN down now?
This was a historical incident on March 3, 2023, not a current outage alert. For live availability, check Sony’s PlayStation Service Status page, which separates account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct. The live page currently lists its services as running, but it does not preserve a historical incident log that independently verifies the March 2023 timeline.

A green status page is useful but not conclusive for every case: it may not yet reflect a newly developing or regional problem, and it cannot rule out a failure on a game’s own servers.

- Check the service status: open the official PlayStation Service Status page and look at the category related to the feature you are using.
- Test another PSN feature: try the Store or friends list as well as the affected game. If only one game fails, its own servers may be the issue.
- Restart the console and home router or modem: this can clear a local connection problem or a session that did not reconnect after service returned.
- Test the console’s internet connection: use its network settings to check whether it reaches the internet and PSN.
- Check for updates and account issues: confirm the console software and game are current, and verify that the account can sign in.
- Use official support if the problem persists: consult PlayStation Support for connectivity, account, hardware, and repair guidance.
A temporary network error is not, by itself, evidence that an account is banned. Do not factory-reset the console, delete saved data, or repeatedly change DNS settings solely because PSN was briefly unavailable.
