Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version returned on February 27, 2026, for the Nintendo Switch family of systems. These are digital downloads, not physical Switch cartridges, and Pokémon says Pokémon caught in the rereleases can be transferred to Pokémon HOME. The identification is the strongest match in official announcements for the ambiguous original headline.

Which Pokémon games returned, and where can you play them?

The games are Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version, the Game Boy Advance remakes that originally launched in 2004. The Pokémon Company announced their return for the Nintendo Switch family more than 20 years later. Both rereleases arrived February 27, 2026. The Pokémon Company’s Pokémon Day 2026 announcement identifies the games, platform and original release context.

Nintendo lists both as download-only titles. Players looking for a Switch version should therefore expect a digital release rather than a physical cartridge; Nintendo’s May 2026 launch schedule confirms the format.

What carries over to Pokémon HOME?

The Pokémon Company says Pokémon caught in these rereleases can be transferred into Pokémon HOME. Its announcement does not specify further transfer conditions, so it does not establish additional details about eligibility or how transfers work.

How successful was the rerelease?

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said the two games together exceeded 4 million units in global cumulative sell-through during their first six weeks after release. That is a combined figure for the pair and a specific launch-period window—not a separate total for each game or a lifetime sales figure.

Furukawa made the statement in Nintendo’s Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ended March 2026 (Online), Q&A Summary, published May 11, 2026.

How does the Switch release compare with the original?

Release Platform Format Pokémon HOME
Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version (original releases, 2004) Game Boy Advance Original release; format details not stated in the cited Pokémon Day announcement. Not stated for the original release in the cited Pokémon Day announcement.

The official announcements establish the return date, platform, digital-only format and HOME transfer statement. They do not provide a comprehensive feature-by-feature comparison with the Game Boy Advance releases, so further differences should not be assumed from those announcements alone.
