Amkette EvoFox Fireblade Review: Budget TKL, but Not Mechanical

The Amkette EvoFox Fireblade is a feature-packed budget TKL, not a true mechanical keyboard. Here’s what its 19-key anti-ghosting, rainbow lighting and price mean for buyers.

The Amkette EvoFox Fireblade is an inexpensive wired tenkeyless gaming keyboard, but it is not a mechanical keyboard: Amkette’s specifications do not identify mechanical switches, and an independent review describes a membrane mechanism. Its 19-key anti-ghosting, rainbow backlighting and multimedia keys can make it a useful upgrade from a basic office keyboard—if you find it near ₹900–₹1,000 and do not expect mechanical-switch features.

Fireblade at a glance

Gaming features 19-key anti-ghosting and a Windows-lock key
Lighting and controls Rainbow backlighting with breathing effects and 12 multimedia keys
Cable and size 1.5 m braided cable with magnetic ring; approximately 36 × 13 × 2 cm and 0.5 kg

Specifications and price are from Amkette’s Fireblade listing; the membrane identification is reported by Shubz.

Is the Fireblade a mechanical keyboard?

No—not on the evidence available. Amkette describes a wired gaming keyboard and lists features such as elevated keys, laser-engraved keycaps and a 10-million-keystroke rating, but its official specifications do not name mechanical switches. Shubz reports finding a membrane mechanism beneath the keycaps. The safest description is a membrane keyboard with a more gaming-oriented, mechanical-like feel, not a true mechanical keyboard.

That distinction matters if you want the defined switch mechanism, switch-level replacement or customization commonly associated with mechanical keyboards. Membrane keys can still be responsive and perfectly usable for games, but a mechanical-feeling press is not mechanical construction. Amkette’s 10-million-keystroke figure is a manufacturer durability rating; it does not prove the keyboard has mechanical switches.

Does the TKL layout suit your desk?

The 87-key layout removes the number pad while keeping the function row, arrow keys and navigation cluster. At roughly 36 × 13 cm, the Fireblade takes up less desk width than a full-size keyboard, leaving more room for mouse movement. That can be handy for FPS players using broad mouse sweeps, students with small desks, or anyone who needs a compact wired board without dropping to a 60% layout.

The trade-off is numeric input: spreadsheets, accounting and frequent data entry are less convenient without a dedicated keypad. TKL is compact, but it is not as small as 75%, 65% or 60% layouts. Whether its size feels comfortable also depends on desk height, wrist position, key spacing and use of a wrist rest; compactness alone does not make a keyboard ergonomic.

How does it perform for gaming?

The Fireblade is wired USB and Amkette specifies 19-key anti-ghosting. That should cover many ordinary combinations—such as holding movement keys with a modifier or jump key—but it is not a promise that every possible simultaneous combination across all 87 keys will register. The official page does not state full-key N-key rollover, polling rate, latency, actuation force or measured response time, so there is no basis to call it a low-latency or esports-tested keyboard.

A Windows-lock key can help avoid accidentally opening the Start menu during a game, while the multimedia keys provide quick access to common controls. Actual shortcut behavior can vary by operating system and application. Amkette lists a 1.5 m cable; check that its reach suits your desk and PC placement.

What do the keys feel and sound like?

Reviewers describe a more distinct, tactile-feeling press than a basic office membrane keyboard and consider it comfortable for ordinary typing and casual gaming. Those are subjective impressions, not measured results. The membrane mechanism does not feel or behave exactly like a genuine mechanical switch board.

There are also reports of movement or rattling on larger keys, including Shift and Enter, and of unevenness under pressure. These are sample-specific observations, not proof that every Fireblade has the same defect. If possible, check the space bar, Enter, Shift and Backspace on the unit you receive.

What are the lighting and controls like?

Amkette lists rainbow backlighting and breathing effects, plus 12 multimedia keys. Independent coverage describes preset lighting rather than software-based per-key control, with a function-key shortcut used for the breathing effect. Rainbow backlighting means a predetermined arrangement or effect; it is not the same as assigning a color to each key or saving software profiles.

Do not buy the Fireblade expecting fully customizable RGB. “RGB” can refer broadly to multiple colors, but per-key RGB means individually configurable keys, typically through software; that capability is not established for this keyboard. Amkette says the board does not require software.

Build quality, durability and spill resistance

Amkette lists a braided cable with a magnetic ring, a spill-resistant design and a 10-million-keystroke rating. One teardown-style review reports an internal metal reinforcement sheet, while other reviewer observations describe a mostly plastic exterior and mention paint-quality issues, unevenness or movement. Aggregated user reports include individual cases of stabilizer noise and key failures after years of use, but anecdotal reports cannot establish a failure rate.

“Spill resistant” does not mean waterproof. Amkette does not specify a liquid volume, exposure duration or cleanup procedure covered by that claim. If liquid reaches the keyboard, disconnect it, turn it upside down and let it dry fully; check the warranty terms before attempting to open it.

Compatibility and setup

Amkette lists Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7, Linux, Ubuntu and Mac compatibility. Its page describes USB plug-and-play operation without software. That listing does not document how every multimedia shortcut behaves on each operating system.

  1. Connect the keyboard directly to a USB port on the computer and allow the operating system to detect it.
  2. Test normal typing, the multimedia keys, lighting and Windows-lock function.
  3. If the keyboard is not detected, try a different USB port, avoid an unpowered hub, restart the computer and test it on another system.
  4. If only some keys fail, check for debris or liquid damage. Review warranty conditions before removing keycaps or opening the keyboard.

Price, availability and warranty

Amkette’s listing showed ₹949, reduced from an MRP of ₹1,299, but it also marked the keyboard “Sold out.” Treat that as a price signal, not a promise that the product is currently available at that price. Marketplace availability may differ; check that the listing is for a new Fireblade and confirm the seller, warranty and return terms before buying.

Fireblade versus mechanical alternatives

Option Why consider it What to verify
Amkette EvoFox Fireblade Low-cost TKL with rainbow lighting, multimedia keys and 19-key anti-ghosting; membrane-style mechanism Live stock, seller, price and warranty; the official page showed sold out when checked
Amkette EvoFox Katana Pro TKL Amkette positions it as a mechanical TKL with Red Outemu switches Current price, stock and exact listing at Amkette
Amkette EvoFox Katana X2 TKL A wired mechanical TKL option in Amkette’s range Confirm switch type, layout, lighting, warranty, stock and price on the specific listing
Amkette EvoFox Ronin TKL Another wired mechanical TKL model The support listing showed black and white red-switch variants out of stock when checked; verify availability at Amkette support
Redragon Kumara K552 Wired mechanical TKL with rainbow LED lighting and multiple lighting modes Confirm the exact switch variant and current price on Redragon India
Full-size keyboard More practical for frequent numeric keypad use Choose based on the actual switch type and features you need

These are product-category comparisons, not a claim that every alternative is in stock or priced near the Fireblade. Amkette’s mechanical keyboard collection is a place to check its current range. If you need both a keyboard and mouse, Amkette’s X-Team combo lists the Fireblade with a Spirit mouse; the listed price was ₹1,349 against ₹1,899, but stock and price can change. It is less compelling if you already own a suitable mouse or would rather put the budget toward a mechanical keyboard.

Who should buy the Fireblade?

  • Consider it under ₹900 if you want an inexpensive wired TKL and accept membrane switches, preset rainbow lighting and a missing number pad.
  • At ₹900–₹1,100, compare live prices for entry-level mechanical boards before choosing it.
  • Above ₹1,200, its value weakens as newer mechanical models become more relevant; near ₹1,500 or higher, favor a genuine mechanical keyboard unless the Fireblade’s particular layout or controls are essential.
  • Skip it at any price if you require mechanical switches, hot-swappable switches, per-key RGB, extensive software customization, wireless operation or enthusiast-grade stabilizers and construction.

These price bands are buying rules of thumb, not official guidance or guarantees of what competing models cost.
