Gameloft temporarily removed the listing, the game reportedly returned four days later, and it is no longer confirmed as officially available on Google Play.
What happened when Modern Combat 4 launched on Android?
Gameloft released Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour on Google Play on December 10, 2012, several days after its iOS debut. Contemporary coverage described the Android game as available to users, but the rollout was short-lived: players reported trouble downloading or installing it, and the listing was pulled soon afterward. Phandroid’s launch-day report and Pocket Gamer’s update document the initial release and problems.
The game was the fourth main entry in Gameloft’s mobile first-person-shooter series. Its campaign followed a geopolitical crisis involving the abduction of the U.S. president and antagonist Edward Page, and its marketing emphasized cinematic presentation, high-end graphics, and multiplayer. Gameloft’s official reveal trailer promoted the game for both iOS and Android.
Why was the Google Play listing removed?
Reports described download and installation failures. Pocket Gamer quoted Gameloft calling the game “temporarily deactivated” until download conditions returned to normal. Because the game also required substantial supporting data beyond the initial store download, problems could arise after a buyer had started the Play Store process. The available reporting does not identify a definitive technical culprit: it does not establish whether the issue lay with Google Play, Gameloft’s servers, the game’s downloader, or a combination.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
That distinction matters: the evidence supports a troubled download process, not a confirmed single bug or a claim that every Android device was affected.
When did the game return?
Pocket Gamer reported that Modern Combat 4 was back on Google Play on December 14, 2012. Its return report listed the historical price as $6.99 in the United States and £4.99 in the United Kingdom; those are region-specific prices reported at the time, not current prices. The report described the listing as working again, but that does not prove every device or region had a flawless experience. Read Pocket Gamer’s return report.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
What did the 2013 Google Play Games update add?
On May 15, 2013, Gameloft announced that Modern Combat 4 had received Google Play Games integration. The announcement named global leaderboards, achievements, and social features. This was a later update to a game already released on Android, not the original launch announcement. Gameloft’s announcement via PR Newswire also said Dungeon Hunter 4 and Asphalt 7: Heat would receive the features later.
Why do some records give a different Android release date?
Contemporary launch reporting places the first Google Play availability in December 2012, and Gameloft’s May 2013 announcement confirms the game was on Google Play by then. A later MobyGames release-history entry instead lists March 11, 2013, as the Android release date and calls version 1.0.2 the initial Google Play release. The reason for the discrepancy is not established; it may reflect a catalog convention, regional release, or later catalog revision, but none can be confirmed from the records. The contemporaneous December coverage is the clearest evidence for the initial appearance. MobyGames’ release-history record.

Is Modern Combat 4 still available on Google Play?
No current official Google Play listing is confirmed. AppBrain records the Android package com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftM4HM as removed from the store on September 30, 2023. That date comes from third-party catalog tracking, not a Gameloft delisting announcement, and the reason for the removal has not been established. A January 13, 2026, Google Android Help Community request asking Gameloft to bring the game back is further evidence that users could not find it through the official store at that time.
Old articles saying the game is “available now” describe its 2012 launch, not its present status. A historical Play Store link may no longer lead to the game, and past ownership should not be taken as a guarantee that it can be redownloaded today.

What should Android players do now?
- Do not treat an old APK mirror as an authorized replacement for the missing Play Store listing. Unofficial files may be modified, incomplete, unsafe, or legally questionable.
- Do not assume an old copy will install or work on a current Android device. Compatibility, asset downloads, authentication, and multiplayer functionality are not established for modern devices.
- If you want a currently listed Gameloft shooter, Modern Combat 5: mobile FPS is a separate, later game—not a like-for-like replacement. Its Google Play listing says an internet connection is required and includes ads and in-app purchases.
