If Roblox on Xbox One says you cannot see content made by other people, the first thing to check is the Xbox profile’s privacy settings. Allow multiplayer experiences and set user-created content sharing to Everybody. A parent or family organizer may need to change these settings for a child account.
What Roblox Error Code 116 means
Error 116 is commonly associated with an Xbox account that cannot access user-created Roblox content or multiplayer experiences because of privacy, family, age, or account permissions. Roblox’s current Xbox help index does not list a dedicated Error 116 article, so treat the permissions explanation as the most likely cause when the message mentions content made by other people—not a definitive Roblox definition for every instance of the code.

The fix depends on where the problem occurs. If it affects one child profile, start with Xbox family permissions. If one Roblox account fails on multiple devices, check that account’s status and restrictions. If every account fails on the console, investigate the app, network, or service. A failure limited to one experience may be caused by that experience’s access or age settings.
Allow multiplayer and user-created content on Xbox
For a child account, sign in with the adult Microsoft/Xbox account that manages the family group. Roblox’s family-account instructions identify both multiplayer access and user-created content visibility as relevant permissions.

- Back out of Settings, then quit and reopen Roblox.
Dashboard labels or menu placement can vary by Xbox One software version. If you cannot find a setting on the console, manage the child’s permissions through Microsoft Family Safety or the Microsoft account family controls. Roblox notes that each child account may need its own change; a restrictive content-age setting can also trigger a parent-permission prompt when Roblox launches.
Enable third-party app access for a child account
Microsoft says a child may be blocked from third-party games and apps if parental consent was granted without enabling access to apps not published by Microsoft. As the parent, use Microsoft’s third-party app access guidance:

- Xbox One, 500GB HDD, 8GB RAM, HDMI, Blu-ray, Wireless Controller, Chat Headset
- Sign in to Microsoft’s family-management page with the parent account.
- Select the child, then choose Manage this child’s access to third-party apps.
- Select Enable access, if that option is available.
- Sign out and back in on Xbox, then launch Roblox again.
If the child is not listed, Microsoft says consent may have been granted by a different adult or Microsoft account. Check with the adult who originally set up the child’s account.
Check Roblox parental controls and age restrictions
Xbox privacy permissions and Roblox parental controls are separate. Roblox’s parental controls are managed through Settings → Parental Controls and can affect content maturity, blocked experiences, communication, connections, private servers, screen time, and spending.

As of June 16, 2026, Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts are globally available, with age-based access and expanded parental controls, according to Roblox’s announcement. Changing Xbox permissions does not override Roblox’s own age-based limits or a restriction on a particular experience. Avoid relying on older instructions that call for a Roblox Parent PIN: Roblox says Parent PIN has been replaced by linked parent accounts and parent privileges (Parent PIN information).
Quit Roblox and restart the Xbox
- Press the Xbox button, highlight Roblox in the recent-apps area, and press the Menu button.
- Choose Quit, then reopen Roblox and retry the experience.
- If the error remains, go to Profile & system → Power → Restart console.
- After the console restarts, try the same experience again.
Work out whether it is the account, console, network, or one experience
- Only one child profile is affected: recheck Xbox family permissions and Microsoft third-party app consent, then review Roblox parental controls.
- The same Roblox account fails on multiple devices: check the account’s login, age restrictions, and moderation status. Error 116 by itself does not prove the account is banned.
- Every Roblox account fails on this Xbox: check service status, the console connection, and the app installation.
- Only one experience fails: it may be private, unavailable, age-restricted, or blocked by Roblox parental controls.
- You can log in but cannot join experiences: prioritize the multiplayer and user-created-content permissions, then check network access and experience restrictions.
- You cannot sign in: verify the Roblox username and password, account status, and Xbox link. Roblox’s Xbox login guidance says Facebook Connect is not available for Xbox login; use the Roblox account password.
Roblox’s status page lists an Xbox App component. Check it for a service issue before changing account settings repeatedly; status can change, so the page is the source for current availability. Roblox’s separate Error 901 guidance recommends testing the account on another device on the same home network for Xbox login or linking problems. Error 901 is a different code, not another name for Error 116.

For a low-risk network check, try another online Xbox game or app, restart the router, then briefly test Xbox using a phone hotspot. If the hotspot works, the home router, DNS, or ISP may be involved; if it also fails, focus on the account, console, app, or service. Roblox’s general Xbox troubleshooting points users to Microsoft’s Xbox app guidance when applications do not start. Arbitrary port forwarding, paid gaming VPNs, and unofficial error-fix tools are not established fixes for this permissions-related problem.

If permissions are correct but the Xbox still appears tied to the wrong or stuck Roblox account, verify the Roblox username before unlinking. Unlinking does not delete the Roblox account, but it can cause confusion when several accounts are used in the same household.

- Open Roblox on Xbox and press the X button from the Home screen to open Settings.
- Select Account, then UNLINK [YOUR GAMERTAG].
- Sign back in and link the intended Roblox account.
You can also disconnect the Xbox connection on the Roblox website under Security → Xbox → Disconnect. See Roblox’s Xbox login and account-linking instructions.
Reinstall Roblox only after account checks
Reinstalling can help if the app itself is damaged, but it will not override family permissions, age restrictions, or account-linking problems. Try it after checking those causes and the Roblox status page.
- Highlight Roblox on the Xbox Home screen or in My games & apps, then press Menu.
- Choose Manage game and add-ons → Uninstall all.
- Restart the Xbox, reinstall Roblox from the Microsoft Store, and sign in with the intended account.
Contact Roblox or Xbox support
If the error persists, Roblox recommends including enough detail to identify the account and reproduce the problem. Its general Xbox troubleshooting page requests the Gamertag, Roblox username, error message, and code.
- Your Xbox Gamertag, entered exactly (Roblox notes that Gamertags are case-sensitive), and Roblox username.
- The exact message and Error Code 116; include a screenshot or short video if the message is hard to reproduce.
- Your Xbox One model, whether the account is a child/family account, and whether one experience or all experiences fail.
- Whether another Roblox account works on the Xbox and whether the same Roblox account works on a phone or computer.
- Recent changes to Xbox family settings, Roblox account settings, or the home internet connection.
Contact Microsoft/Xbox if family controls, consent, or Xbox sign-in settings cannot be changed. Contact Roblox if the Xbox permissions are correct but the Roblox account, experience access, or Roblox app behavior remains the problem.
