There is no verified source here for the original ten-laptop list or its ranking, so it would be misleading to invent one. What can be said with confidence is that 2023 produced several compelling gaming-laptop designs, including the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 and Razer Blade 16. Their specifications and review results show why the best choice depended on the exact configuration, display priorities, portability needs and price at the time.
Why there is no reliable ten-laptop ranking here
The title asks for ten of the best gaming laptops of 2023, but the available evidence does not identify the original article or establish its ten selections. The models discussed below are documented examples, not a reconstructed top ten. Treat this as a retrospective guide to how to evaluate notable 2023 machines—not as a definitive ranking or a statement of what is best to buy today.
Gaming-laptop model names can cover several configurations. A family may be sold with different graphics chips, displays, memory and storage, so a model name alone is not enough to compare performance or value. Check the exact SKU and regional specification before comparing listings.
Two documented examples from 2023
ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (2023)
ASUS lists a specific M16 configuration with an RTX 4090 Laptop GPU and a 16-inch QHD+ Mini LED display: 2560×1600 resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. The specification page also lists G-Sync, a MUX switch and NVIDIA Advanced Optimus. These are specifications for the cited configuration, not a guarantee that every M16 sold has the same components. Notebookcheck tested a sample pairing a Core i9-13900H with an RTX 4090 Laptop GPU and compared it with systems including the Lenovo Legion Pro 7 and Razer Blade 16. Its results vary by game and settings, which is why a single benchmark cannot establish an overall performance winner. Notebookcheck’s M16 review and benchmark tables
PC Gamer’s reviewer described the M16 as their favorite among three next-generation laptops they had tested at the time, while adding that lower-spec versions would need more reasonable pricing to win them over. That is a period-specific reviewer opinion, not an objective verdict across all configurations. PC Gamer’s M16 review

Razer Blade 16 (2023)
Tom’s Guide’s review unit had a Core i9-13950HX, RTX 4090, 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. Its 16-inch dual-mode Mini LED display could run at 3840×2400 and 120Hz or 1920×1200 and 240Hz. Those details describe the tested configuration and display modes; they should not be assumed for every Blade 16 listing. Tom’s Guide’s Blade 16 review
PCWorld noted that the Blade’s large screen could also suit content creation. In its May 4, 2023 review, it reported that the line started at $2,700 for an RTX 4060 configuration. That is historical review-time pricing, not a current quote. PCWorld’s Blade 16 review

How to compare 2023 gaming laptops fairly
For any retrospective shortlist, compare like with like. Separate manufacturer specifications from observations made by reviewers on a particular sample, and keep the exact configuration attached to every performance or price claim.
- Graphics and sustained performance: Record the precise GPU, its power limit, the CPU and the cooling design. Compare sustained game results at matching settings rather than treating an RTX label as a complete performance measure.
- Display: Check resolution, panel type, refresh rate and brightness, as well as whether a dual-mode screen changes resolution when switching refresh rates.
- Memory and storage: Note the installed capacity and which components, if any, can be upgraded.
- Portability: Weigh screen size against laptop dimensions, weight, battery use and charger size. A large gaming system can be portable without being convenient to carry every day.
- Everyday experience: Consider keyboard, ports, webcam, fan noise and surface temperatures, relying on measured review observations where available.
- Ownership and value: Compare warranty and service coverage in the buyer’s region, plus the price of the exact configuration on the date being discussed.
The two examples illustrate why these axes matter: the M16’s cited ASUS panel is QHD+ at 240Hz, while Tom’s Guide describes the reviewed Blade 16’s dual-mode options as 4K/120Hz and 1920×1200/240Hz. Neither fact alone determines which laptop is better; the right tradeoff depends on how the machine will be used and on the rest of its configuration.

What a 2023 price or review can—and cannot—tell you
Historical prices and review findings are useful context for understanding the market at the time, but they do not establish current availability, value or condition. A used or remaining-stock listing may differ by region, configuration and seller. Verify the specific listing rather than relying on a model-family description or a 2023 starting price.
Likewise, individual reviews describe a particular sample, test method and date. Their benchmarks do not amount to a universal ranking, and their impressions should not be applied automatically to every configuration in the product family.
