Lenovo launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Legion Y700 in China in 2024, pairing an 8.8-inch, 2560 × 1600 LCD with a maximum 165Hz refresh rate. China launch prices were reported from CNY 2,899 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It is a compact gaming tablet with high-end hardware, but buyers outside China should weigh its firmware, warranty and storage limitations before importing.
Which Legion Y700 is the 2024 model?
The tablet commonly called the Legion Y700 (2024) is also described as the third-generation Y700 or Y700 Gen 3. It is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 model announced and opened for pre-order in China in late September 2024, with retail availability following in October. Lenovo markets the closely related international product as the Legion Tab (8.8″, 3), or Legion Tab Gen 3; the shared core hardware does not guarantee identical software, warranty, accessories or regional configurations. Lenovo’s global datasheet identifies Android 14 and ZUI 16.1 at launch.
Some sellers call the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 version “Y700 2025.” A year label alone is not enough to identify the hardware: check the processor and model details. The later Y700 generation with Snapdragon 8 Elite is a different device, not another name for this model (Notebookcheck).

What the 165Hz screen means for gaming
The 8.8-inch panel has a 2560 × 1600 resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio and roughly 343 pixels per inch. It is an LCD, not an OLED. Lenovo’s related global specification lists up to 500 nits typical brightness, Dolby Vision, HDR10 and DCI-P3 coverage; China-market listings describe a high-touch-response gaming display. Check the specification for the exact regional unit if those media features are essential (Lenovo China listing; global Legion Tab Gen 3 datasheet).
165Hz is the panel’s maximum refresh rate, not a promise that a game will render 165 frames per second. The game must support a high frame-rate mode, and its graphics settings, software limits and thermal conditions affect actual performance. Running at a higher refresh rate can also use more power.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance and cooling
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 pairs one Cortex-X4 core with five Cortex-A720 cores and two Cortex-A520 cores, plus Qualcomm Adreno graphics. LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage complete a capable Android gaming platform. Chinese launch coverage reported a vapor-chamber cooling area of approximately 10,004mm² (IT Home).
This hardware makes the Y700 a strong fit for demanding Android games, emulation and game streaming in a small form factor. Cooling hardware is not a guarantee of a fixed frame rate during long sessions: game load, ambient temperature and device settings matter. The 16GB/512GB configuration provides more room for games and multitasking than the 12GB/256GB option, but the extra RAM does not automatically raise frame rates.

Battery, ports and storage trade-offs
The stated battery capacity is 6,550mAh. No controlled runtime figure is established here, and battery life will depend on refresh rate, brightness, game or emulation workload, streaming and temperature. Charging bundle and charging details can vary by regional version, so confirm them with the seller before buying.
The most consequential compromise for game libraries is the absence of a microSD slot. Even the 512GB version cannot be expanded internally. Lenovo China’s listing describes USB-C connectivity, including a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port and a second USB-C connection with USB 2.0 behavior; confirm the exact imported model’s port capabilities before relying on video output or a particular accessory (Lenovo China listing).

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
A USB-C hub with charging pass-through, Bluetooth or USB-C controller, protective case, external SSD and USB-C audio adapter can help tailor the tablet for play. External storage is useful for media and files, but it is not a replacement for expandable internal game storage in every app or setup.

Lenovo China listings captured in 2026 showed figures including CNY 2,499 for 12GB/256GB and CNY 3,299 for higher configurations, while availability was inconsistent and some listings were sold out or unavailable (Lenovo China product page). These are China-market listing signals, not current U.S. prices or guaranteed offers. An imported tablet’s delivered cost also reflects shipping, import charges, seller margin, warranty coverage and return costs; converting the original CNY launch price does not establish what a buyer elsewhere will pay.
Y700 Gen 3 versus the 2023 Y700
The Gen 3 moves to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and LPDDR5X/UFS 4.0, and raises the display ceiling to 165Hz. Those are meaningful platform and display upgrades for a buyer seeking more performance from a compact tablet. The Gen 3’s missing microSD slot can make the older model more attractive to users with large emulator or media libraries, depending on the older unit’s configuration and price. The evidence available here does not establish a complete side-by-side specification set for every 2023 configuration, so compare the exact model numbers rather than assuming all older Y700s share one spec.
Chinese Y700 or global Legion Tab Gen 3?
The global Legion Tab Gen 3 is the closest straightforward alternative: it shares the broad compact 8.8-inch, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 165Hz concept while being sold under Lenovo’s international Legion Tab branding. The global datasheet lists Android 14 and ZUI 16.1 at launch. The Chinese Y700 can be appealing when its final imported price is materially lower, but software language, Google services, updates, warranty and regional details need to be checked for the exact unit.
Do not assume that a listing saying “global ROM” means official Lenovo international firmware. It may refer to official firmware, seller-installed software, a modified Chinese ROM or a Chinese ROM with Google Play added. Community reports describe region-lock and ROM compatibility concerns; these are user reports, not a definitive statement of Lenovo policy (Reddit discussion). Treat ROM flashing as a risk, not a routine setup step.

Import checklist: verify before paying
- Identify the hardware. Ask for the exact model number, processor, RAM/storage capacity and photos of the device information screen. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 indicates this generation; a year in the listing title does not.
- Get the firmware facts in writing. Confirm whether the tablet has its original Chinese ROM or official international firmware; ask for the build number, bootloader status, update method and whether Google Play is installed and certified.
- Check apps and language. Ask which system languages are available and whether Chinese services can be disabled or removed. Verify the streaming services, banking apps, DRM and enterprise apps you need rather than assuming they work.
- Confirm network and connectivity needs. This model is generally sold as Wi-Fi-only. Check regional wireless compatibility and exact port behavior; do not assume cellular service or video output.
- Establish your recourse. Get warranty location, return window, return-shipping responsibility and the seller’s remedy for a modified or defective unit. A Chinese-market purchase does not by itself establish local Lenovo warranty service.
- Check the box contents and final cost. Confirm charger, plug, configuration, shipping, taxes and customs charges, then compare the delivered price with the global Legion Tab Gen 3.
Who should buy it?
- Consider it if you want a compact, powerful Android gaming tablet, mainly play over Wi-Fi, can live without microSD and are comfortable verifying the firmware and seller protections.
- Prefer the global Legion Tab Gen 3 if official international positioning, simpler Google-service setup, clearer local warranty prospects and less ROM uncertainty are worth the price difference.
- Look elsewhere if you require expandable storage, cellular connectivity, an OLED panel, long battery life under sustained maximum load or a tablet intended to replace a laptop.
