Start by identifying your console and recording the full error message or code. A stalled queue, a locked PlayStation download, an update that has not been requested, and a game that installs but will not launch point to different fixes. Work through the matching steps below before deleting or reinstalling anything.
First, identify the problem
Check whether Metro 2033 Redux or Metro: Last Light Redux is failing to download, sitting paused, missing an update, showing as locked, or installed but unable to start. Also check whether other games or downloads on the same console are affected. If the console displays an error code, write it down exactly; use the platform’s guidance for that code rather than assuming the game files are corrupt.
Nintendo Switch: resume a stalled download or request an update
If the download is paused or not progressing
- Confirm the Switch has an active internet connection.
- If a game or other software is open, save your progress and close it from the HOME Menu. Nintendo notes that some software pauses downloads while it is running.
- Open your user page, choose User Settings, then select Update Download Progress.
- If the queue still does not move, restart the console. Wait for it to reconnect online before opening software that might pause the download.
- If progress is unusually slow, test the console’s internet connection and troubleshoot the network connection.

If you need to start a game update manually
- Connect the console to the internet.
- On the HOME Menu, highlight the Metro game without starting it.
- Press + or −, then choose Software Update > Via the Internet.

PlayStation: check access, licenses, and launch failures
If the game is locked or the download is unavailable
- Sign in to the account that bought the game and check its transaction history. If access comes through PlayStation Plus, confirm that the relevant subscription entitlement is still available.
- If another account owns the game, check the relevant console-sharing setup: Primary PS4 on PS4 or Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5.
- Check PlayStation Network service status. If there is an alert, wait for the service to recover before repeating the download.
- Update the console system software and restore licenses.
Follow PlayStation’s official steps for restoring licenses and locked games. Menu wording and available options can vary by console.
If Metro Redux downloaded but will not start
- Restart the console, restore licenses, and check for a system software update.
- If the problem remains, delete the game and download it again. PlayStation recommends trying a wired connection during re-download if possible.
- On PS5, if the game is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the console’s internal storage. PlayStation also lists Safe Mode options such as clearing the cache and rebuilding the database.
- For a disc copy, check that the disc is clean and correctly inserted on PS4; use PlayStation’s disc troubleshooting route for PS5.
See PlayStation’s game launch troubleshooting for the applicable console-specific instructions. If you contact support, include the error code or message, the steps that reproduce the problem, and a screenshot or video if available.

Xbox One: check console updates, then use the error code
If you suspect a system update is blocking installation, connect the console to the internet, open the guide, then go to Profile & system > Settings > System > Updates & downloads > Update console. This route was surfaced in Microsoft’s Xbox One support instructions, but the linked support page now redirects to generic Xbox Support; menu labels may differ on your console.
The available guidance does not establish a Metro Redux-specific Xbox download fix. Note whether the problem affects only Metro Redux or other downloads too, then look up the displayed code through current Xbox Support. Do not delete saved data as a routine download troubleshooting step.

Before reinstalling or escalating
- Check the platform’s service status if downloads suddenly stop or access changes.
- Keep the complete error code or message and note whether the failure affects one Metro title or other games too.
- Use the platform’s code-specific support steps when a code appears; avoid guessing at a game-specific cause.

About the announced Metro Redux console update
Deep Silver announced a free update for existing owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, scheduled for October 29, 2026. As of October 3, 2026, that date is still in the future. The announcement describes native next-generation support and enhancements, but does not establish that the update has shipped or that it fixes a particular download error.
