Does the Wired HyperX Cloud II Work on Xbox One? Setup and Troubleshooting

The wired HyperX Cloud II works on Xbox One through the controller’s 3.5mm headset jack—not its USB control box. Here’s how to connect it and troubleshoot audio or chat.

Yes—the wired HyperX Cloud II (often called Cloud 2) works on Xbox One through the controller’s 3.5mm headset jack. Its included USB control box is not the supported Xbox connection, so connect the headset directly to the controller instead. The Cloud II Wireless and Cloud II Core Wireless are different products and are not suitable Xbox One alternatives through their USB wireless connections.

Which HyperX Cloud II do you have?

Model Xbox One result Connection
HyperX Cloud II wired Yes 3.5mm connection to the Xbox controller
HyperX Cloud II Wireless No wireless Xbox One support Its USB wireless connection is not an Xbox One solution; see the product compatibility answer.
HyperX Cloud II Core Wireless No It lacks a 3.5mm fallback, and its USB wireless connection is not Xbox-compatible; see the product listing and support details.
HyperX CloudX models Designed for Xbox use Varies by model; the wired CloudX uses 3.5mm.

Check the product name and connection before troubleshooting: the wired Cloud II has an analog headset connection and a USB audio control box, while the wireless editions rely on a USB transmitter. HyperX lists the wired Cloud II for Xbox One and directs Xbox users to the controller’s auxiliary connection on its official product page.

How to connect the wired Cloud II to Xbox One

  1. Turn on the Xbox One, sign in, and make sure the controller is paired and powered.
  2. Insert the detachable microphone fully into the headset ear cup if you plan to use party chat.
  3. Plug the Cloud II’s 3.5mm headset connector directly into the controller’s headset jack.
  4. If your controller has no 3.5mm jack, connect a compatible Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter to the controller, then connect the headset to that adapter. The Cloud II manual notes that some older Xbox One controllers require this adapter: Cloud II manual.
  5. Play a game or use the Xbox audio controls to check game sound. Join or create a party to test microphone input.
  6. Adjust headset volume, chat balance, mute, and communication settings using the controller and Xbox interface. Leave the Cloud II USB control box disconnected from the Xbox for this setup.

Microsoft describes headset use through the Xbox Wireless Controller’s 3.5mm jack on its Xbox Stereo Headset page. Xbox One, One S, and One X users should focus on the controller’s jack or adapter: the console’s external shape is not the deciding factor.

Does the Cloud II microphone work on Xbox One?

Yes. With the wired headset connected to the controller, its detachable microphone can send voice input through the same 3.5mm connection used for game audio. HyperX’s Cloud II support guidance specifies the controller’s 3.5mm connection for Xbox use; the USB control box is not required for microphone operation.

If other players cannot hear you, check that the boom is fully inserted, the headset plug is seated, and the microphone is not muted. Xbox privacy settings, party communication settings, the controller jack, or a headset adapter can also block chat even when game audio works.

Why the USB control box is not the Xbox One connection

The Cloud II’s included USB box is a USB audio device intended for supported computer and other compatible setups. HyperX identifies the Xbox connection as aux-only through the controller, so do not expect the Xbox One to use that box as a supported headset, microphone, or sound-card path. A USB plug physically fitting the console does not establish that Xbox supports the device.

On Xbox One, do not count on the USB box’s volume buttons, microphone mute, USB microphone route, or PC-oriented virtual-surround processing. For this console setup, use the controller and Xbox audio controls instead.

Surround sound and spatial audio are separate features

The Cloud II’s advertised virtual-surround mode is associated with its USB control box; it should not be presented as an Xbox One feature. Through the controller, expect headset stereo audio. Separately, Microsoft says Xbox One supports Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Headphone:X with compatible headsets and software on its spatial-audio information page. Availability, setup, and any license requirements depend on the Xbox option and content. To review what is available, open Xbox audio settings while the headset is connected and check the headset format and spatial-audio options.

Troubleshoot by symptom

No game audio

  • Reseat the 3.5mm plug at the controller or headset adapter.
  • Check Xbox headset volume and make sure the headset is not muted.
  • Try another known-working headset on the same controller. Then test the Cloud II on another compatible device to isolate the headset from the Xbox connection.
  • If you use an adapter, check its connection; try another controller with a 3.5mm jack if available.
  • Reconnect or restart the controller. Install controller or console updates if Xbox reports that one is available.

Game audio works, but the microphone does not

  • Push the detachable microphone fully into its socket and check mute controls.
  • Check Xbox privacy and party-chat communication settings.
  • Test the Cloud II on another compatible device, then test another headset on the same Xbox controller. This helps distinguish a mic fault from a controller, adapter, or settings issue.

Voice chat works, but game audio does not

  • Check game and headset audio levels in the Xbox interface.
  • Reseat the headset plug and confirm that the game is sending audio to the headset.
  • Test another headset on that controller to check whether the jack or adapter is at fault.

The sound is too quiet or only one ear cup works

  • Make sure the plug is fully seated; a partially inserted 3.5mm plug can cause weak or uneven sound.
  • Check headset volume and inspect the cable and connector for damage.
  • Compare the headset on another compatible device and compare another headset on the Xbox controller. Controller output can differ from the Cloud II’s USB audio-box output, but low volume alone does not prove a headset defect.

The USB connection is not recognized

Use the wired Cloud II through the controller’s 3.5mm port rather than the USB control box. For additional Xbox chat-headset checks, follow Microsoft’s headset troubleshooting guide.

Should you use or buy the Cloud II for Xbox One?

Your situation Practical choice
You already own the wired Cloud II Use it through the controller. You do not need to replace it solely for Xbox One compatibility.
You want wired game audio and chat The wired Cloud II is viable if a controller cable suits you; a controller without a 3.5mm jack also needs a compatible adapter.
You want wireless Xbox play Choose a headset explicitly compatible with Xbox One. Do not buy Cloud II Wireless expecting its USB transmitter to work with the console.
You want Xbox-oriented compatibility and controls Compare Xbox-focused models such as HyperX CloudX or Microsoft’s Xbox headsets.
You want the Cloud II USB box or its PC feature set on Xbox Choose a different setup; the supported Cloud II Xbox connection is analog through the controller.

HyperX positions its CloudX as an Xbox-compatible wired headset, and its Xbox collection includes the CloudX Stinger 2 Core for buyers looking for an Xbox-focused entry-level option. Microsoft’s Xbox Stereo Headset is a first-party wired option that connects to a controller’s 3.5mm jack; the Xbox Wireless Headset is a better fit if wireless console connectivity and integrated game/chat controls matter more than a wired connection.
