For changing incident updates, check Epic’s official @FortniteStatus account on X. If neither reports a relevant issue, the problem may be your connection rather than a Fortnite-wide outage.
Check the Fortnite service that matches your problem

Open Epic Games Public Status and find Fortnite in the service list.

Check the component connected to what you cannot do. Epic lists services including login, game services, parties/friends/messaging, voice chat, matchmaking, stats and leaderboards, the item shop, and Fortnite Crew. A problem with one component does not necessarily mean every Fortnite service is down.

Look for an incident or maintenance notice and read its latest update. Epic’s status documentation says the page includes an overall status indicator, individual component statuses, unresolved incidents, and upcoming or in-progress scheduled maintenance. Epic status documentation

Epic also identifies @FortniteStatus on X as an official channel for service-status updates. Check it when an incident is developing or you need a newer update than the status-page summary.
What to do if Epic reports an issue
If the affected component matches your problem, follow Epic’s incident updates and try again after the issue is resolved. For matchmaking problems, Epic specifically advises waiting when matchmaking is affected.

What to do if the status page looks normal
A normal status indicator does not rule out a problem with an individual connection. Epic says matchmaking can route players to different servers, and congestion or network routing can affect latency. The page reports service status; it cannot diagnose every player’s route or connection.

Restart Fortnite and try again.

If you see Matchmaking Error #5, do not treat the error alone as proof of an outage. Epic says it appears when Fortnite cannot connect you to a match and may be caused by either a server issue or a network connection problem. Check the status of matchmaking, then restart the game and troubleshoot your connection if no relevant incident is listed. Epic’s guidance for Matchmaking Error #5 and #7
