But if Battlefield isn’t hitting the mark—or you want a different military-shooter experience between sessions—choose by what you want more of: large vehicle battles, infantry-focused firefights, a historical setting, or a flexible sandbox.

Pick the kind of Battlefield alternative you actually want
For combined-arms scale: Squad
Squad is the closest fit here if your priority is coordinating across a large battlefield with vehicles in the mix. Its milsim framing is also the main trade-off: expect a more deliberate pace and more adjustment than in an arcade-style shooter. The cited comparison lists PC.
For infantry firefights: Insurgency: Sandstorm
Choose Insurgency: Sandstorm when you want the encounter to revolve around infantry rather than tanks and aircraft. Its versus and co-op options give you a choice of opposition, but the limited technical vehicles do not recreate Battlefield’s vehicle-heavy combined arms.
For historical warfare: Hell Let Loose
Hell Let Loose brings large WWII battles, tanks, artillery, and distinct roles. That role structure and teamwork are part of the appeal, but also raise the learning curve compared with a more pick-up-and-play match.

For a player-directed sandbox: Arma Reforger
Reforger combines Conflict multiplayer with Game Master scenario creation and Workbench modding. These systems offer more room to shape how you play, but the result is less of a ready-made, tightly bounded match. Bohemia Interactive’s page lists PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 and includes a development report dated September 22, 2026.
For a campaign plus online modes: Modern Warfare II
Modern Warfare II is the option in this group whose official page explicitly bundles a campaign with multiplayer and Special Ops. Treat that as a description of modes, not a guarantee about present-day online activity or value.

For machines or logistics instead of first-person infantry combat
War Thunder centers combat on military vehicles, while Foxhole emphasizes the work of supplying and sustaining a frontline. Both can scratch a military-conflict itch, but neither is a direct first-person replacement for Battlefield: War Thunder lacks infantry combat, and Foxhole uses an isometric perspective.

Battlefield’s appeal often comes from combining large battles, infantry, and vehicles. EA’s Battlefield 2042 page describes maps, class-based gameplay, Conquest and Breakthrough, and weapons, vehicles, jets, and helicopters; it lists September 8, 2025 as the latest update. That page does not establish current live-service status or player population, and it is specific to Battlefield 2042—not a statement about every Battlefield release.
