The Lenovo IdeaCentre Y710 Cube delivered convincing 1080p gaming and VR performance for its time, especially in GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 configurations. It is compact by gaming-desktop standards, but not lightweight, and its results vary substantially by graphics card. Lenovo has withdrawn the product family, so a used unit is worth considering only after checking its exact components, condition, and price.
What the Y710 Cube is—and why configurations matter
Introduced in 2016 as a Windows 10 gaming desktop, the Y710 Cube paired 6th-generation Intel Core processors with a range of graphics cards. Lenovo’s product specifications reference marks the family as withdrawn. The lineup included systems with Core i5-6400 or Core i7-6700 processors and graphics options ranging from the Radeon RX 460 and RX 480 to the GeForce GTX 1060, GTX 1070, and GTX 1080. Lenovo specified support for up to 32GB of DDR4 memory.
That range makes the model name an unreliable performance shortcut: a GTX 1070 system and an RX 460 system are not interchangeable gaming PCs. For a review or used listing, identify the GPU and CPU first, then check memory and storage.
How well does it game?
GTX 1070: strong 1080p results in period testing
Tom’s Guide tested a Y710 Cube with a Core i7-6700, 16GB of RAM, and a GTX 1070. In Rise of the Tomb Raider at maximum settings, that review unit averaged 55.4 fps at 1080p. This supports the case for the GTX 1070 model as a capable 1080p gaming PC by the standards of its launch period; it does not establish performance in every game or in lower-GPU configurations. Tom’s Guide’s 2017 review also recorded 3,240 in 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra and a 10.8 score in the SteamVR Performance Test.

4K: reduce settings rather than expect maximum detail
The same GTX 1070 review system averaged 15.7 fps in Rise of the Tomb Raider at 4K with maximum settings. That result is not a playable 4K target for this test, so buyers planning to game at 4K should expect to lower settings and should not treat the GTX 1070 model as a maximum-settings 4K machine.
VR: promising evidence, not a guarantee for every headset or game
The 10.8 SteamVR Performance Test score in Tom’s Guide’s 2017 review supports the conclusion that its GTX 1070 configuration was VR-capable for its era. It is a result from one configuration and one benchmark, not a guarantee of performance with every headset, title, or current VR workload. The graphics card is the key detail to verify before buying; the Y710 Cube name alone says too little.

Is the Cube genuinely compact?
Lenovo’s datasheet gives dimensions of 393.3 × 252.3 × 314.5 mm (15.48 × 9.93 × 12.38 inches), a starting weight of 7.4 kg (16.3 lb), and a carry handle. The handle makes it practical to move between locations, such as for a LAN event, but at that weight it is better described as transportable than lightweight or especially small-form-factor.
Can you upgrade or service it?
Reviews describe straightforward side-panel access. Tom’s Guide reported that removing four screws at the rear allows the panels to slide off, exposing the graphics card, RAM slots, and hard-drive bays. TechRadar also described component access through a side window secured by two screws. This makes routine inspection and some upgrades less awkward than in many compact desktops.

Access does not mean every component is a drop-in upgrade. Before changing the GPU or other hardware, confirm the specific system’s power supply, available space, connectors, and Lenovo chassis layout. Those limits can differ across configurations, and the cited reviews do not establish a single upgrade ceiling for every Y710 Cube.
Ports, networking, and power
Lenovo lists front USB 3.0 and rear USB, Ethernet, display, and audio connections. Discrete graphics add HDMI, DVI, and DisplayPort outputs; the actual selection available for monitors depends on the installed card. The platform uses Killer wired and wireless networking.

Power draw also depends on the configuration. Tom’s Hardware France measured more than 250W during 3DMark on a GTX 1080 review unit and described its idle consumption as average compared with the machines in that review. Treat the load figure as a measurement of that particular system, not a specification for every Y710 Cube. Tom’s Hardware France’s review provides the context for that result.

These are historical launch-era prices, not current resale guidance. Microsoft’s Windows Experience Blog announced that a GTX 1070 version would start at $1,299.99 and be available from October 2016. Later review coverage discussed higher-end configurations around $2,199. Because Lenovo lists the family as withdrawn, those prices cannot establish whether a particular used listing is good value today.

A used Y710 Cube can make sense if its hardware and condition suit your needs and its total price compares well with alternatives. Evaluate the actual PC, not the model name or a launch price.
- Graphics and processor: Confirm the exact GPU and CPU. The family spans markedly different graphics performance, from Radeon RX 460 systems to GTX 1080 configurations.
- Memory and storage: Check installed RAM and whether the system has an SSD, a hard drive, or both; listings may not match the configuration you expect.
- Power supply and upgrade needs: Ask for the power-supply details if you plan to replace the graphics card, and confirm that the intended part fits and has the required connections.
- Condition and completeness: Check that the machine boots, inspect its physical condition, and confirm which accessories are included.
- Fit for your setup: Consider the monitor outputs on that specific graphics card, along with the system’s 7.4 kg starting weight and the space it occupies.
- Total used-market price: Compare the asking price with other PCs that offer similar components and account for any repairs or upgrades you would need.
Verdict
The Y710 Cube’s best case is a well-equipped GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 system: compact enough to carry, accessible enough to service, and, in period testing, strong at 1080p with credible VR capability. The trade-offs are its age, substantial weight, variable specifications, and limited evidence for modern games. The GTX 1070 review result also shows why 4K maximum-settings gaming is not a realistic expectation. Buy only when the exact configuration and condition justify the used price.
