MAINGEAR announced its refreshed ML-17 on July 25, 2024, pairing an Intel Core i9-14900HX with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Mobile GPU with 16GB of graphics memory. It launched with a 17.3-inch QHD display supporting refresh rates up to 240Hz and a stated starting price of $3,899. Those are manufacturer specifications and launch pricing; they do not establish current stock, current configuration prices or real-world gaming performance.

Ports and connectivity
MAINGEAR lists two Thunderbolt 5 ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, Ethernet, audio connections and a card reader. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 provide wireless connectivity. Port placement and the exact connector layout should be confirmed against the current product listing before buying peripherals.
Launch price and current availability
MAINGEAR’s July 25, 2024 announcement said the ML-17 was immediately available with a starting price of $3,899: launch announcement. That is the launch price, not a verified current price. Configuration costs, stock and shipping availability can change; check the live MAINGEAR configurator for current details.
Can you upgrade the ML-17?
MAINGEAR specifies memory capacity up to 64GB DDR5-4800 and storage support for as many as three M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSDs, up to 4TB apiece. Those published maxima indicate substantial room to configure memory and storage, but the specifications alone do not establish which parts are user-replaceable, how many slots are open in a particular configuration, or whether upgrades affect warranty coverage. Confirm the installed components and service terms with MAINGEAR before opening or modifying the laptop.

Is the RTX 4090 ML-17 worth its launch price?
The announced hardware targets buyers who want a high-end mobile gaming GPU, a fast QHD display and extensive internal storage. The trade-off is substantial carry weight: the laptop itself is listed at 7.25 pounds, before adding its 330W charger. The 99Wh battery is a capacity figure, not a runtime estimate.
No reproducible frame-rate results, independent battery-runtime measurements or thermal benchmarks for this exact 2024 configuration are established in the cited sources. The specifications therefore cannot answer how many frames a particular game will deliver, how long it will last away from an outlet, or how hot or loud it gets under sustained load. Compare independent testing of the exact configuration if those factors determine your purchase.

Do not confuse it with the earlier ML-17 Mk. I
MAINGEAR’s support page includes an earlier ML-17 Mk. I configuration with an Intel Core i9-13900HX and RTX 4090 Mobile. That is distinct from the July 2024 refresh, which uses the Core i9-14900HX.
