Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo limit Fortnite purchases, set a six-digit PIN in the child’s Epic Games parental controls, then configure the payment controls for the console or store used to pay. These controls have different scopes: Epic’s PIN applies to real-money purchases through Epic’s payment service, but not console-store payments or spending V-Bucks already in the account.
Set up Epic Games parental controls
- Open the child’s Parental Controls. Use the Epic account portal or the parental-controls area in Fortnite. Follow Epic’s setup instructions. If the account does not have an email linked, Epic says it may need to be upgraded first using the instructions for the relevant console.
- Create a six-digit PIN. Epic’s setup flow asks the parent to choose preferences and set a PIN. Use one that is different from PINs used elsewhere; Epic requires it to change parental-control settings later.
- Require the PIN for Epic payments. In Parental Controls, turn on the option requiring a PIN for real-money purchases made using Epic’s payment service if that is the rule you want. Check the setting in the child’s account rather than assuming it applies to every way Fortnite can be paid for.
- Review paid random-item permissions separately. Epic has a distinct setting for whether the child can spend V-Bucks—or content purchased with V-Bucks—on items with random rewards. This is not a general block on V-Bucks spending. The option may not appear in regions where paid random items are unavailable.
Epic’s instruction is to “Set up your 6-digit Parental Controls PIN.” Find the setup and purchasing guidance in Epic Games Support and the Epic Games Safety Center.

Know what the Epic purchase PIN covers
| Purchase or setting | Does the Epic purchase PIN control it? |
|---|---|
| Real-money purchase using Epic’s payment service | Yes, when the PIN requirement is enabled. |
| Payment through PlayStation, Steam, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch | No. Set purchase restrictions in the platform or store account. |
| Spending V-Bucks already in the account | No. The Epic real-money purchase PIN does not block this. |
| V-Bucks spent on paid random-reward items | Managed by a separate Epic setting, where that setting is available. |
These distinctions are important if the goal is to stop all spending: there is no single Epic PIN setting that covers every payment route and currency.
Configure the platform or store payment controls
A purchase billed through a console or mobile store must be restricted through that platform’s family or payment settings. Epic’s parental-controls guidance links to controls for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Windows, Android, iOS, and Google Play. On PC, Epic also suggests removing stored payment methods as one way to control purchases made through Epic.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
Nintendo recommends combining console parental controls with Epic’s controls for Fortnite. Its guidance says Fortnite is rated Teen by ESRB and may be blocked by console restrictions set to age 12 or below. Nintendo describes adding Fortnite to the parental-controls app’s Allow List so a child can play while Epic’s controls restrict access to in-game experiences by age rating. See Nintendo’s instructions for Fortnite on Switch and Switch 2.
Other platforms
Use the family or payment settings for the specific console, mobile device, or store account through which the child’s purchase would be billed. An Epic PIN should not be treated as protection for a platform-store transaction.

Check whether the account is Cabined
Epic’s Cabined Accounts have some features unavailable until a parent or guardian gives permission and completes account setup. The parent can grant permissions and set controls through Epic’s consent flow. Verification methods depend on the child’s country, so use the options shown in that flow rather than relying on a particular method. Details are in Epic’s Cabined Accounts FAQ and parental consent information.
Epic says a Fortnite gift card can be added to an Epic balance on a Cabined Account, but that balance may be used only for Epic game purchases and cannot pay for Fortnite Crew subscriptions. A gift card is therefore not a purchase restriction.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Verify the controls against each purchase route
After setup, review the child’s Epic account and the relevant console or store family settings. Check each route the child can use—Epic payment, platform-store billing, and any spending from existing V-Bucks—against the control intended to restrict it. This is a configuration check, not a reason to assume one setting covers the others.
