Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda premiered on October 2, 2000, with Kevin Sorbo starring as Captain Dylan Hunt. Its central idea: a starship captain wakes 300 years after being frozen in time to find the interstellar Commonwealth he served has collapsed—and sets out with a new crew to rebuild it.
What was Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda?
Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda is a science-fiction television series based on a concept by Gene Roddenberry. The Roddenberry organization describes it as the second science-fiction series based on one of his concepts and credits Majel Barrett Roddenberry as an executive producer.
The show debuted October 2, 2000, and its listed run spans 2000 to 2005. Those dates make its 26th premiere anniversary October 2, 2026.
What is the story?
Set thousands of years in the future, the series begins after an interstellar battle leaves Captain Dylan Hunt’s ship at the edge of a black hole. Hunt is frozen in time and awakens 300 years later to discover that the Systems Commonwealth has fallen. He joins an unlikely crew and tries to restore peace and civilization.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The premise turns a familiar space-opera setup into a recovery mission: rather than serving an intact interstellar order, Hunt must help rebuild one after its collapse.
Who stars in the series?
Kevin Sorbo plays Captain Dylan Hunt, the officer whose displacement into the future drives the story. The title’s “’90s TV favorite” framing points to Sorbo’s earlier television fame, but the sources establishing the details of Andromeda do not verify that comparison; the supported identification is Sorbo as the show’s lead.

Why is it called a Roddenberry series?
The Roddenberry organization’s Entertainment page calls Andromeda “the second science fiction series based on a concept by Gene Roddenberry” and credits Majel Barrett Roddenberry as executive producer. The series listing also describes it as based on Roddenberry material. That supports describing it as a series based on his concept, not as a show personally created or produced by him during its 2000–2005 run.
When did Andromeda premiere?
Rotten Tomatoes lists October 2, 2000, as the premiere date and 2000–2005 as the series’ run. The anniversary language is therefore date-specific: the 26-year mark came on October 2, 2026.
