PlayStation LifeStyle reported on October 2, 2026, that Sony may revive dormant franchises, naming Ape Escape as one example. The claim comes from insider comments relayed by the outlet, not from Sony: no new game, release date, platform or developer has been officially announced.

What the report says about a new Ape Escape

PlayStation LifeStyle attributes the revival claim to NateTheHate, who had previously said Sony was looking at dormant franchises and reportedly reaffirmed that Ape Escape was among them. The outlet also says the rumored project would not be handled by Team Asobi, but it does not identify another developer. Read PlayStation LifeStyle’s October 2, 2026 report.

The linked community post reproduces NateTheHate’s comments, including “As I said a while ago, Sony is looking to bring back some dormant franchises” and “Not Asobi.” Those are statements attributed to an online handle, not a Sony representative. See the linked Reddit post.

Bandai Namco’s involvement is not confirmed

The report quotes NateTheHate as saying, “Bamco is not involved, to my knowledge. But I’d have to check further to be 100% certain, as it has been a while since I last checked in on the project.” That is a qualified, unverified insider comment—not a definitive statement from Bandai Namco or Sony. The report names no confirmed developer.

Why Ape Escape is the franchise named

Ape Escape is a PlayStation adventure-platform series that began on PS1 in 1999. PlayStation LifeStyle identifies PlayStation Move Ape Escape, released for PS3 in 2010, as the series’ latest release. The report’s specific example is this franchise; it does not confirm a slate of multiple adventure-game revivals.
