Rat King is a Brawler whose kit layers area damage and slows, rat-applied Bullet Resist reduction, temporary personal protection, and an ultimate that supports nearby allies while disrupting enemies. This guide reflects the October 2, 2026 update record and a third-party ability overview published October 3; Deadlock is actively patched, so check Rat King’s current in-game tooltips for live values.
Rat King at a glance
Each ability serves a different role: Scrap Grenade pressures an area, Rat Swarm weakens a target over time, Royal Pestments helps Rat King stay in a fight, and Rule, Rattania! creates a contested area around a banner. Those effects suggest a kit built around overlapping pressure and team presence; they do not establish a tested build, matchup advantage, or performance ranking.
| Ability | Primary role | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Scrap Grenade | Repeated area damage and movement slow | Enemies can knock it away with a melee hit. |
| Rat Swarm | Damage over time and Bullet Resist reduction | An affected enemy can remove an attached rat with a ground or air dash. |
| Royal Pestments | Temporary barrier and chance to return bullets | Protection is conditional and has a duration. |
| Rule, Rattania! | Area disruption and nearby-ally support | Enemies hit by the eruption take damage, are knocked up and slowed, and can receive Rat Swarm. |
Weapon and traversal
Sovereign’s Decree
Rat King’s weapon is called Sovereign’s Decree. The community-maintained Deadlock Wiki Rat King page also describes a tunnel-traversal ability: crouch beside a vent to enter or exit map tunnels, but Rat King cannot enter while in combat. Treat that interaction as community-wiki information and confirm its behavior in the current game before relying on it.
Scrap Grenade: repeated damage and a slow
Rat King throws a scrap grenade that detonates repeatedly, dealing bullet damage and slowing enemies in its area. The October 3 third-party overview reports three detonations, an 8-meter radius, 65 base damage per detonation, a 4-second slow, a 20% movement-speed reduction, and a 26-second cooldown. These are guide-reported snapshot values, not guaranteed current client values.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Counterplay
Enemies can knock the grenade away with a melee attack. That gives opponents a direct way to interact with the projectile instead of simply accepting its repeated area pressure.
Rat Swarm: attached pressure and Bullet Resist reduction
Rat King sends rats leaping onto enemies. Each bite deals spirit damage and reduces the target’s Bullet Resist; bites arrive faster when more rats are attached to the same target. The October 2 update record says T2 increases swarm size and debuff duration, while T3 increases bite damage and the Bullet Resist reduction per bite.

Royal Pestments: a temporary defensive window
Royal Pestments grants Rat King a barrier based on his maximum health. While the barrier holds, bullets have a chance to deflect back toward their attacker. The October 2 update record says the barrier does not benefit from resists, so it should not be read as unconditional immunity or as a barrier strengthened by defensive resistances.
The October 3 overview reports a base barrier equal to 15% of maximum health, a 15% bullet-return chance, a 6-second duration, and a 22-second cooldown. It describes T2 as reducing cooldown and increasing the bullet-return chance; T3 increases the max-health-to-barrier conversion and caps each incoming damage instance at 250. Treat these as snapshot figures from a secondary overview, not permanent values.

Rule, Rattania!: banner support and an area eruption
Rat King charges and slams down a banner. Its eruption damages, knocks up, and slows enemies; rats emerge and apply Rat Swarm to enemies hit. Nearby allies receive benefits while close to the banner, making the ultimate both an area attack and a team-support tool.

The October 2 update record describes increased Fire Rate and Damage Reduction, plus removal of the movement slow when shooting. A separate ability summary on that same page instead lists increased Move Speed, slow immunity, and reduced incoming damage; the October 3 overview likewise describes movement speed, slow immunity, and damage reduction. Because those accounts conflict, use Rat King’s live in-game tooltip to confirm the current banner effects rather than relying on a specific buff list.
The October 3 third-party overview reports a 24-meter banner radius, a 12-second flag duration, and a 130-second cooldown. It also lists 200 eruption damage, a 24-meter eruption radius, and a 40% movement-speed slow. Its upgrade summary says T1 reduces cooldown and increases movement speed; T2 extends charge and flag duration and increases radius; T3 adds damage and ally damage reduction. These are dated guide figures and descriptions, not verified current values.
What opponents can do against the kit
- Against Scrap Grenade: hit the grenade with a melee attack to knock it away.
- Against Rat Swarm: use a ground dash or air dash to shake off an attached rat early.
- Against Royal Pestments: remember that the bullet-return effect applies only while the barrier holds; the ability does not make Rat King immune to all damage.
- Against the banner: account for the area eruption and the support zone around the flag. The available sources do not establish a specific counter beyond avoiding or responding to its effects.
How current are the details?
The October 2, 2026 update record lists Rat King as playable and classifies him as a Brawler. It is a community presentation of Valve update notes, not a Valve-hosted page.
