The Deep North is Valheim’s final biome in the current progression, following the Ashlands. It launched with Valheim 1.0 on September 9, 2026. Treat it as a late-game destination: advance through biome resources and Forsaken bosses, then use the Deep North’s village ruins, Hidden Tunnels, Intricate Keys and Morkhalla to follow the route toward Kall Fimbulbringer.
Where the Deep North fits in Valheim progression
Valheim’s progression is built around biomes, their crafting resources and their corresponding Forsaken bosses. Iron Gate describes the general loop this way: “Every biome comes with its own difficulty and unique resources for crafting armour and weapons.” Defeating a biome’s Forsaken One provides items and skills that help players move onward. In the current post-launch progression checklist, the Deep North comes after the Ashlands; it is not presented as a beginner starting area. Valheim 1.0 and the Deep North launched on September 9, 2026. Iron Gate’s abbreviated launch notes describe a large content addition: more than 40 weapons, four armor sets, over 10 creatures, more than 30 crafting materials and over 20 food items, alongside new locations and mechanics. Those are developer-published counts, not a ranking of gear or a guide to which items you need first. Read Iron Gate’s 1.0 notes.
What to collect in the Deep North
The names below are a useful checklist while exploring, not a complete recipe guide. The list comes from PC Gamer’s September 11, 2026 updated guide; it does not establish every crafting use, an optimal route or an order of priority.

Iron Gate’s March 2026 preview specifically said lingonberries would be harvested in Deep North woods and used in food recipes. The preview is useful for those features, but it does not supply a full food or survival loadout. See Iron Gate’s Deep North preview.
How to find Hidden Tunnels and reach Morkhalla
The post-launch guide describes a route through village ruins and dungeons. Use it as a search plan rather than assuming every ruin contains a tunnel or every tunnel has the same contents.

- Search village ruins. Pay particular attention to large, two-story buildings and look for deep pits that may lead to Hidden Tunnels.
- Explore the tunnels. The guide reports that tunnels can contain moulds used for Intricate Keys or gear upgrades.
- Use an Intricate Key at Morkhalla. An Intricate Key opens a Morkhalla door, according to the guide.
- Repeat the route to gather the reported boss materials. The guide says to complete the tunnel, key and Morkhalla process three times to obtain enough Jotun raids and Malicious Blood.
- Summon Kall Fimbulbringer. Offer three Malicious Blood at the Strange Bowl. The guide lists Sacrificial Blood and Crown Jewel as rewards.
This dungeon-and-boss chain is described by a third-party post-launch guide, rather than in the cited official patch notes. Check current in-game text if a later patch changes the requirements.
Terrain features to account for while exploring
In its March 2026 preview, Iron Gate called out three Deep North details that affect exploration and building: ice can be slippery, deep snow must be cleared before building, and a craftable shovel is available for clearing it. The preview also described lingonberries growing in woods for use in food recipes. These are specific previewed features, not a complete list of hazards or preparation requirements.

Will the Deep North appear in an existing world?
Yes, but new fixed world content is applied only to areas that players have not explored. Iron Gate defines an unexplored area as one where no player has set foot, including an approximate radius of 500 metres. That rule applies to additions such as new terrain, buildings and dungeons. In an older save, look for Deep North content in unvisited areas; starting a new world is the alternative if you want newly added content across the map.
