7 Things I Hope to See When Destiny 2 Brings Back Its Vaulted Campaigns, Raids and Destinations

Bungie has begun work to bring vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations and raids back into the game, with the stated intention of making them available to all players. It has not named the returning content, set an order or given a release date. So these are seven specific hopes—not a prediction of Bungie’s restoration slate.

Bungie calls this material “vaulted,” rather than deleted: the Destiny Content Vault is its system for cycling destinations and activities out of the game, and Bungie says vaulted content may return. Here’s what I’d love to experience again when that happens.

What Bungie has confirmed—and what remains unknown

In its September 17, 2026 announcement, Bungie said it is beginning work to bring vaulted campaigns, destinations and raids back into Destiny 2, where they will be available to all players. The studio also said this is more than restoring old files: changes since Beyond Light mean lighting, encounters, combatants and other underlying systems need updates to meet today’s stability and gameplay standards.

Bungie has not announced which activities will return first, a release sequence or a date. It says more details will come in the months ahead. The announcement establishes restoration work, not a specific launch plan.

Destiny 2 - PlayStation 4 Standard Edition
  • From the makers of the acclaimed hit game Destiny, comes the much-anticipated sequel
  • An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
  • Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion
  • To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home

Seven things I hope the restoration brings back

1. A campaign that lets its story breathe

I hope at least one returning campaign comes back as a coherent, playable journey rather than a set of disconnected missions. Destiny campaigns are at their best when a surprising encounter or character moment has room to land, and when the next mission feels like a consequence of the last. A full campaign would let returning players revisit that arc and give newcomers a chance to understand it in context.

2. The slow reveal of a destination’s hidden corners

I want to step into a familiar patrol space and have a reason to wander: a path that drops below the obvious route, an overlook that rewards a detour, or an odd doorway that makes you wonder what is beyond it. The first pass through a destination is about getting from one objective to another. The pleasure of returning is noticing what the fast route taught you to ignore.

  • Unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay that redefines the genre and breaks traditional conventions of story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.

3. Patrol secrets that reward curiosity, not just a checklist

Some of the most memorable destination moments are small: a peculiar object, an unexplained signal or a corner that suggests a story without spelling it out. I hope restored spaces keep that sense of discovery. A secret does not need to hide a major reward; sometimes the payoff is simply finding a place that makes the world feel older and stranger than the map suggests.

4. A raid encounter that turns a familiar team into a real team

I’m hoping for a returning raid whose mechanics make players communicate rather than merely deal damage in parallel. The best raid callouts are precise and urgent: one person spots a change, another acts on it, and everyone else adjusts before the window closes. That shared rhythm is what makes a raid memorable long after the loot drops.

5. The soundtrack moment that changes how a space feels

I want the quiet stretch before a major fight to stay quiet long enough for the score to do its work—and then for the music to swell when the scene earns it. Restoring lighting and other systems is part of Bungie’s stated work; I hope the care extends to how audio, pacing and visuals combine to make a place feel tense, triumphant or unsettling.

6. Old spaces made stable for the game as it is now

Nostalgia is not enough if a restored activity feels brittle or out of step with the current game. Bungie says changes since Beyond Light require updates to systems, encounters, combatants and lighting, with current stability and gameplay standards as the goal. I hope those updates preserve the character of each activity while making its moment-to-moment play feel dependable today.

7. A chance for everyone to share the return

Bungie says returning content will be available to all Destiny 2 players. I hope that promise makes the return a genuine shared event: veteran players can bring friends through a place they remember, while newer players get to discover its missions and encounters without feeling they arrived too late. The fun of old content is often in the people you experience it with now.

Why “vaulted” matters

Bungie introduced the Destiny Content Vault as a way to cycle destinations and activities out of Destiny 2 as the game grew. In its June 2020 explanation, Bungie said the game’s growing size and complexity made it harder to update and maintain. That is the studio’s explanation at the time, not a current technical measurement. Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault help page says vaulted Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 destinations and activities have the potential to return. It also says expansions would no longer be vaulted, following an August 2022 announcement.

What recent updates do—and do not—tell us

The June 2026 Monument of Triumph update refreshed rewards on existing destinations and brought back Sparrow Racing League. That is a welcome example of older material appearing in the current game, but it does not confirm that any particular vaulted destination, campaign or raid is part of the restoration Bungie announced in September.

There is also a separate live-service context: Bungie said in May 2026 that the June 9 Update 9.7.0 would be the final planned live-service content update. Its Update 9.7.0 support guide says no planned live-service updates are expected, though stability hotfixes may still be released. The restoration announcement does not explain the development arrangement or schedule, so it would be speculation to infer one.
