Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film Remain a “masterpiece” and “a perfect companion to The Sixth Sense” after a surprise screening at Beyond Fest. Those are one viewer’s first impressions—not a critics’ consensus or a representative audience verdict. GamesRadar+ reported the reactions on October 2, 2026.
What the early reaction to Remain actually tells us
The “masterpiece” label comes from an audience member’s social-media post reproduced by GamesRadar+. The viewer described the film as “moving, frightening, and beautiful” and suggested pairing it with The Sixth Sense. The screening was a surprise event following a Q&A for The Sixth Sense, which helps explain why that comparison surfaced.

Other attendees also posted enthusiastic reactions. Actor Luke Barnett called Remain “fun, movie theater horror” and praised its scares, humor, and emotional ghost-story elements. Writer Will Landman highlighted Shyamalan’s shot design and described the film’s choices as experimental. These are personal reactions from people who saw an early screening, quoted by GamesRadar+; they do not establish a broad consensus.
“I do not say this lightly: M. Night Shyamalan’s new film, Remain, is a masterpiece. a perfect companion to The Sixth Sense for a double feature and a moving, frightening, and beautiful film on its own.”

Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same [Blu-ray]
- The line forms here for the world?s greatest and possibly most influential band - Led Zeppelin! With Dazed and Confused, Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love and more signature performances, this mesmerizing movie built around Zep's famed '73 NYC concerts is convincing proof why. Band members supervised the Re-mastering and Dolby 5.1 Re-mixing of the film?s image and sound. In addition to their pe
GamesRadar+ attributes that post to an audience member. Shyamalan also posted that he had surprised “1,400 people” with the film; that figure is his stated attendance, not an independently verified count.
Why viewers are pairing it with The Sixth Sense
The comparison is a double-feature suggestion, not a claim that the films share a story or that Remain is a sequel. Beyond Fest’s official retrospective announcement identifies The Sixth Sense as a 1999 Shyamalan film and describes its concerns as grief, connection, mortality, and unseen forces shaping the living. The festival’s 2026 schedule lists it as a 107-minute screening.

The reactions support a limited comparison across supernatural or ghost-story elements, emotional tone, horror and scares, and humor. They are impressions of the unreleased film, rather than independently assessed facts about its finished content. The suggested double feature is therefore best read as a mood-and-theme pairing from one viewer, not as a promise that the films are alike in every respect.
What is known about Remain
GamesRadar+ describes Jake Gyllenhaal as playing a grieving architect who takes another job and meets Wren, played by Phoebe Dynevor. The report characterizes Wren as a young woman who disrupts his carefully ordered world. The sources available here do not include an official studio synopsis, so that description should be treated as the outlet’s reported premise.
GamesRadar+ reports Warner Bros. as the planned theatrical distributor and February 5, 2027 as the planned release date. Release plans can change, so check the studio’s latest announcement closer to the date.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How much weight should the praise carry?
- It is encouraging, but early: the comments came after a surprise screening, not from a generally released film.
- It is not a poll: the available reporting provides no published audience survey, review score, or other robust measure of broader reception.
- It is not a critics’ verdict: the quoted comments are social-media reactions reproduced by a news outlet, not a representative review consensus.
The useful takeaway is that several people at the screening responded strongly to the film’s horror, emotional storytelling, and visual choices. Whether those qualities work for a wider audience will become clearer when Remain is released.
