EA Sports FC 27 is an evolution, not a reinvention. In an early hands-on review, T3’s Rik Henderson found the game faster and more fluid, with worthwhile Ultimate Team changes, but also described it as iterative and was not won over by The Grounds. If you mainly want familiar football with refinements, FC 27 may suit you; if you need a dramatic change, try the free Lite version before buying.
What’s new in EA Sports FC 27?
EA’s feature list highlights updates to gameplay, Manager Career, Football Ultimate Team and a new social space called The Grounds. These are the publisher’s descriptions of its features; they are not independent assessments of how well each change works.
Gameplay and defending
EA promotes more fluid gameplay, dynamic corners, enhanced attacking awareness and player-focused defending. The aim is to give players more influence over defensive actions and attacking movement, though the official feature page does not quantify the changes. EA’s FC 27 feature page
Manager Career
The Transfer Market has been rebuilt around active club bidding and player values. EA also lists negotiation clauses and Dynamic OVRs, which reflect form, morale and fitness. Career adds scenarios and Manager Live Creator Challenges, according to EA’s launch announcement. EA’s launch announcement

Ultimate Team Gallery
The Gallery lets players curate Player Items, build Gallery Level and earn rewards. EA also lists new Ultimate Team features, but the clearest independent early praise was for the Gallery and faster new Squad Building Challenge formats.
The Grounds
The Grounds is a social football setting built around Kickabouts, 1v1s and Clubs, with football mentors and player-expression options on and off the pitch. It is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2—not PS4, Xbox One or the original Nintendo Switch. Owning the game on an older platform does not provide access to every mode. How good is FC 27 to play?
The available independent impression is positive but preliminary. T3 News Editor Rik Henderson published his hands-on piece on 24 September 2026, after a week with the game on PS5 and PS5 Pro. He disclosed that EA supplied his review copy for free, and said he had not tested the PC version. His account is one reviewer’s pre-launch view, not a long-term assessment or cross-platform performance review. T3’s hands-on review
What the early review liked
- Play felt faster and more fluid.
- Manual defending felt more rewarding.
- The Ultimate Team Gallery was useful, and new SBC formats felt quicker.
- Alex Hunter’s role as a mentor in The Grounds was a welcome addition.
What gave the reviewer pause
- Passing could feel sluggish or inaccurate.
- He was unconvinced that attacking AI had changed much.
- The Grounds had not captivated him.
- The overall game still felt iterative rather than new.
Henderson’s verdict was that FC 27 was improved, but that more time was needed to see how it held up. That is a useful snapshot of the game before launch, not evidence of how its balance or modes will fare over a longer season.

Which platforms include FC 27?
EA lists FC 27 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Platform availability differs by mode: The Grounds is restricted to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2. EA says PS4-to-PS5 and Xbox One-to-Series X|S upgrades are available at no additional cost, but an upgrade does not remove mode restrictions. EA’s launch announcement EA’s edition FAQ

Edition benefits and availability come from EA’s edition FAQ. The early-access windows and Ultimate Plus pre-order period are historical offers, not live purchase benefits. For a cautious purchase, Lite is the clearest way to sample the game before choosing a paid edition.

Is EA Sports FC 27 worth buying?
It looks most appealing if you already enjoy the series and want refinements to gameplay, Career and Ultimate Team rather than a ground-up change. The early hands-on report identifies improvements, especially to fluidity, manual defending and Ultimate Team, but also flags uneven passing and limited excitement about The Grounds. Because that report covers one reviewer’s week on two closely related PlayStation systems before launch, it cannot establish consensus or performance on other platforms.
Before buying, check that the version you plan to play includes the modes you want. That matters particularly if The Grounds is a deciding feature: it is not available on PS4, Xbox One or the original Switch. If you are unsure whether the refinements are enough for you, start with FC 27 Lite’s limited mode selection rather than paying for an edition based on expired pre-order perks.

How large is FC 27’s licensed football roster?
Electronic Arts says FC 27 includes more than 21,000 players, 800 clubs and national teams, 140 stadiums, 35 leagues and 300 global football partners. These are EA’s own 2026 product-page figures, not an independently audited count. EA’s FC 27 feature page
