Digital Extremes released Warframe Update 44, Iceblade of Narin, for PC on September 23, 2026. In his October 2 column, Massively Overpowered’s Eliot Lefebvre finds the new ice-themed Warframe’s mechanics engaging, but wants more story context and questions how approachable the announced six-player mode will be. Those are his impressions, not a performance review or official guidance.
What Update 44 adds
Update 44 centers on Narin, whom Digital Extremes identifies as the game’s 66th Warframe. It also adds a Zariman enemy-and-currency loop, Riven Trait Locking, and Citrine Prime with her signature Prime weapons. The official PC patch notes are the source for what shipped and how the systems work: Warframe: Update 44: Iceblade of Narin.
How Narin’s kit plays
Narin’s abilities are built around Cold effects and a blend of melee and ranged combat. The official notes describe three signature parts of her kit:
- Neote: a rapier lunge.
- Naraemagi: restores shields and can grant Overguard when shields are full.
- Nurinarim: puts Narin into a temporary ice-skating attack mode.
Lefebvre’s view is that the kit feels fun and cohesive, with its ice theme and different attack styles working together. He also finds the update light on story context for Narin and the new enemies. That is his editorial assessment, rather than a claim about how all players will experience the update. Read his column at Massively Overpowered.

How to get Narin and her signature weapons
- Play Zariman missions and look for Entropic Eximus, the source of Entropic Kuva.
- Take Entropic Kuva to Cephalon Melica’s wares at Yuvan’s Peak.
- Exchange it for available items, including blueprints for Narin and her signature weapons.
The notes identify the enemy and exchange path, but do not establish a guaranteed drop rate for Entropic Kuva; do not treat each encounter as a guaranteed blueprint or fixed payout. This route is distinct from Citrine Prime: her Prime weapons and Warframe are obtainable through Void Relics, and Prime Access packs are also available, according to the update notes.
Why Entropic Eximus push players toward melee
Entropic Eximus are designed to make melee engagement matter. Digital Extremes’ 44.0.1 hotfix clarifies that non-melee damage is reduced by 90%, while Operator damage is reduced by 75%. Their bubbles block projectiles and prevent Warframe abilities from damaging the Eximus. Melee attacks empowered by Narin’s Iceblade buff or a Tauron strike can break the bubble, but breaking it does not remove the damage resistance.
Rank #2
Lefebvre likes this encounter as a reason to change combat approach and revisit the Zariman. The official mechanics support that tactical distinction; they do not establish that every player will prefer the encounter or find it equally challenging.
Riven Trait Locking trades Kuva for control
Update 44 adds Riven Trait Locking: one stat can be preserved while cycling a Riven. Digital Extremes explains: “One trait (stat) can be locked at a time while cycling a Riven, freezing it until the lock is removed or the Cycling menu is closed.” Locking itself requires no item or cost, but cycling while a trait is locked doubles the Kuva cost. Lefebvre considers the feature a useful quality-of-life improvement, while noting that pursuing desired Riven stats still involves time and Kuva.

Glacial Defiance and the question of access
Glacial Defiance was described in the Devstream 197 overview as a high-level, six-player mode involving Cryobells and weekly mission opportunities. The team intended to launch it alongside Iceblade of Narin, but explicitly cautioned that it might not make that launch. The announcement does not by itself confirm the mode’s current availability, so check current in-game or official update information before planning a run.
Lefebvre’s concern is about approachability: he is skeptical that a six-player activity without matchmaking will be easy for players to access. That is his judgment about the design, not an official statement about the mode’s audience or a finding from player testing.

Where Lefebvre lands
Lefebvre’s column is broadly positive about Narin’s feel and the way her kit encourages varied combat, and he welcomes the Entropic Eximus as a reason to engage with melee and the Zariman. His reservations are the limited story context and uncertainty about practical access to Glacial Defiance. Readers looking for exact mechanics and acquisition details should use Digital Extremes’ notes; the column offers one writer’s reaction to those additions.
